Chapter Three
When Lana opened her eyes again, she was lying on her back on a hard surface. She sat up quickly and fell back to the bed immediately as her head felt like it would split in half. She gasped in pain and grabbed her head with both hands. She realized that it was wrapped round with bandage, and there was a needle on her hand connected to a bag above her. She was at the hospital. What happened? She remembered the crash and her hands immediately went to her stomach "My baby" she breathed frantically just as the curtains were pulled aside and a doctor appeared. "I see you're awake, Miss" he smiled at her as he checked he vitals "And you're doing well, I can see." "Doctor, my baby" Lana whispered softly "Is my baby fine?" The doctor's smile faded slowly as he looked down at Lana. Slowly, he shook his head. "I'm sorry" he breathed softly, staring deep into her eyes. Lana's eyes burned with tears, but somehow they did not spill over. "It's dead?" Her voice was void of emotion and the doctor was confused, wondering if the loss of her child had made her go insane. Sometimes, incidents like this tend to make people go into shock and they behave abnormally. "You have to calm down, Miss" He said "although, the injuries you sustained from the accident are not that severe, you need to make sure you don't stress yourself." The injuries were not that severe? Then, had she lost her child before the incident? When? Surely, it can't be when Damien pushed her, because she felt the pain from then. But if it was so... She turned away from the doctor, and her gaze went to the door. She saw Diego standing there, his arm in a sling. "Ma'am, don't worry, I already called the boss. He's on his way" He shuffled painfully over to her, cheerfully saying in his hispanic accent. He looked away from her, because he was afraid that she would probably see that he was lying. He had actually called the boss to inform him of the accident but the boss had berated him for disturbing him. "Just take her to the hospital. The doctors would take care of her. Do not call me over this matter again!" Those had been the boss's words and Diego could not bring himself to repeat them for Lana. Lana stared at him, her face hard. She knew he was lying. Many times her driver had lied to her, in order to make Damien save face in front of her. "Ma'am, the boss sent this flowers." "Ma'am,the boss called and asked for you but you were out." "Ma'am, the boss got you tickets for your favorite opera." She always knew it was a lie because Damien could easily call her if he wanted to talk to her and she hated flowers. She was allergic to them, dammit! She sat up again, and this time her head throbbed slightly. "I can get discharged now, right?" Lana stared straight ahead as she spoke, her voice void of emotion again. Her lips was pale and she looked ghastly, with huge bags under her eyes and sharp cheekbones. "No, you cannot" The doctor shrank back from the glare which Lana gave him as he said those words but he still remained calm "I might need to run some more tests on you. Please, hold on a bit while get some things ready." As soon as he walked out, Lana slid out of the bed with difficulty "Diego, get me my clothes" She removed the needle from her wrist, her face showing no pain. It was as though she lost her emotions along with her child. Diego was scared. "Ma'am, please, you heard the doctor.. " "Fine, I'll leave without you" She walked out of the room, taking long strides and ignoring the pain in her head. "Ma'am wait" she could hear Diego calling out to her as he tried to catch up with her but she didn't stop until she was out of the hospital. Diego caught up to her, breathing heavily. "Please ma'am, don't hurt yourself. The boss would be angry if anything happened to you." Lana laughed but the look she gave Diego was murderous. "Really? He would?" Diego shrank back in horror from her murderous look. My God, what had happened to her? Diego wondered in fear. "Get a cab this instant and stop telling me shit!" Diego nodded and sprang into action, stopping a taxi, waving wildly with his free arm. Lana slid into the back of the cab and Diego sat in front. "Take me to the Reign Estates" she ordered, looking out the window and Diego looked back at her in shock. She was still going back to the mansion. Diego was worried. He did not want her to go back. He knew what was happening back at the mansion and if she went there, she'd only be more hurt. "But ma'am, are you sure about this? Maybe we can go in and get the doctor..." Lana glared at him and he immediately faced his front, but he still managed to say in a small voice, "The boss is not home, if you're looking for him. He's at the Reign Gardens, for the business summit and banquet he's hosting, so let's just return quietly inside, ma'am, I beg of you." "Take me to Reign Gardens!" Diego's head whipped around again as he stared at Lana in shock. She was going to the business summit like this?! With her hospital dress and a bandage wrapped around her head? However, the look in her eyes scared him and he dared not say another word. The cab rolled to a stop in front of the Reign Gardens. Lana could hear classical music, emanating from the garden as well dressed and sophisticated people milled about, discussing and laughing. The place was filled and Lana had a hard time finding Damien, but everyone did step out of her way, once they saw her. Maybe because of the cold look in her eyes or the ghastly way she looked. She found Damien, in a discussion with some of his friends and his face was alight with joy. Lana's fists clenched as her blood boiled. He hurt her and made her lose her child, and here he was laughing as though nothing happened?! He looked up and saw her and his expression immediately, turned to a scowl, as he gave her a dark look. She equally stared at him with a strange look which puzzled him. The next words which came out of her mouth stunned him. "Damien Romero, you bastard, I want a Divorce!."Chapter Four Hundred And Seventy-Six“The Damien Romero whom you see now has no recollection of who he was before now.”The shareholders dropped their cutleries in shock, their mouths hanging open as they stared at Zaire.“What?” They asked, looking round at each other before turning back to him, “What does that mean? What are you talking about?”Zaire nodded solemnly, enjoying every out of their reaction, “Yes. Chairman Damien Romero is amnesiac,” he uttered gleefully, “Lost his memory in that big accident after he recuperated and he knows nothing. Absolutely nothing at this point, about who he is.”“What?” The shareholders were dumbfounded at that statement.Damien Romero has lost his memory and had no recollection of who he was? Then they were being led by a dummy? All these was not making sense to the shareholders.“But… but how is that possible?” Director Nathan uttered, “I mean, we all saw the Chairman recently at the board meeting even. He was perfectly okay.”“Yes, exactly.”
Chapter Four Hundred And Seventy-FiveZaire looked round at the shareholders troubled faces and hid a smile, as he took a sip from his wine glass.Deluded fools.Damien Romero’s elimination was already set in stone. He did not need anyone’s consent for that. The shareholders would have to come to realize, sooner than later, that he was the one calling the shots here. Not them.He did not care about their reputation or if they felt sympathy for Damien Romero. He was going to do whatever he wanted, however he wanted. The shareholders were just a means to an end. Disposable. But they were quite useful for now, so Zaire had to clamp down on his disgust with them and bear with the discom for sometime.“So..” he uttered, spreading his hands over the table, indicating the array of dishes he had prepared for the for the meeting, “Why don’t we start eating? I noticed you guys haven’t touched your food since you arrived. Let’s eat before it gets cold, shall we?”Zaire was saying this with a s
Chapter Four Hundred And Seventy FourThe shareholders glanced nervously at each other, their hearts beating wildly in their throats. They could not refute what Zaire had just said but could only nod and accept it meekly.Director Mina bit her lips in regret, wishing she had not attacked Zaire earlier using her family name. Now, he was going to just use it to mock her endlessly.Does this mean they were under this young maniac’s control from now on?Zaire was definitely going to use those forged documents to hold them against their will. Her fists clenched as she remembered how they all got into this mess in the first place. It was because of that damn Director Evans.N.If what Zaire said earlier was true, that means Zaire was the mastermind behind everything and Director Evans was only a tool to get what he wanted. And that was the loyalty of the top shareholders.Director Mina could not resist. She turned to Zaire, “This was your plan all along, wasn’t it?” She asked coldly, “To ge
Chapter Four Hundred And Seventy-Three“Cheers?”The shareholders watched Zaire from hooded eyes, their hatred barely hidden from the way they glared at him.He was clearly mocking them, goading them because he knew that they had broken by him so he was relishing their pain.Zaire was still smiling beautifully. When he saw that the shareholders were just glaring at him without reaching for their glasses, his smile slowly slipped off and his face became a hideous mask of anger.“I said,” he gritted out in anger, “cheers!”The shareholders jumped at that sound and immediately reached for the wineglasses before them, with shaky hands.“Cheers,” they gritted out as well, their smiles fake as hell as they lifted the glasses towards him as well, “Cheers to you. Zaire.”They did not know what the hell they were cheering at, but they knew they had to do what this maniac wanted if they wanted to get out of here alive. They were still feeling the extreme pain from what they had just gone throug
Chapter Four Hundred And Seventy-TwoEven while these thoughts were running through the shareholders heads, they could not for the life of them turn around and ask him these question. Not even the sharp mouthed Director MinaFor God’s sake, they had guns pressed to their necks and knees splayed on their backs. It would be crazy to start asking a mad man such as this that kind of question. They could only nod and tremble, the pains in every of their stretched joints making their head bob up and down faster than it would have normally “Yes, yes, yes! We are so sorry for saying such about you!”“Of course, you do not work for the Chairman! You’re a great man yourself.”“Yes, Mr Ludovic! Please do not mind our senseless statements previously. If you could just go easy on us this time, we would do anything you want!”“Yes, I would. Just tell me what you want and I will make sure I get it done.”“Absolutely! You know us, Mr Ludovic. Whatever it is that you want - money, connection, even a
Chapter Four Hundred And Seventy-One“Because I said so.”Director Mina flipped her hair behind her shoulder and scoffed in disgust and disbelief. She placed her hands on her hips and glared at Zaire.Wagging a manicured finger at him, she said angrily, “Look here. You must think you’re the world, because you’re the Chairman’s assistant now. How dare you talk to us that way?”“Exactly! Who do you think you are to tell us not to see Lana anymore?”Zaire was still smiling when he brought his hand down on a hard bang, on the wooden table. The loud sound made the shareholders jump, swallowing the yells and berating statements on the tips of their tongues.Simultaneously, the wooden doors behind them and the room which Zaire had just stepped out from, opened up. Armed, suited men stepped in and walked quickly towards the shareholders, without saying a word. They grabbed a hold of the shareholders, holding them down to their terror.“What’s this?! Let me go at once!”“You, Zaire Ludovic! D
