Chapter 6

Lilian POV.

As I took a deep breath and focused on stabilizing Elijah, Lucas paced anxiously beside me.

"Is he going to be okay?" he asked, worry etched on his face.

"I'm doing all I can," I replied, administering some emergency medication and carefully monitoring Elijah's vitals. "It's touch-and-go for a few minutes, but he should stabilize soon."

Lucas let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I don't know what we would have done without you."

"Just doing my job," I said, trying to remain calm even as my heart raced with adrenaline. "But we need to be careful with the medication from now on."

Before Lucas could reply, Elijah let out a groan and stirred slightly, his eyes fluttering open.

"Wh-what happened?" he asked, confusion evident in his voice.

"You had a reaction to one of the medications," I explained gently. "But you're stable now."

Elijah looked around the room, taking in the worried expressions of his packmates. "We have to tell them," he said firmly.

"Tell them what?" Lucas asked.

"That she's here," Elijah replied, nodding in my direction. "Everybody should know she's home, she's back."

I felt myself tensing up at the thought of being exposed to the whole pack. "I don't know if that's a good idea," I said hesitantly.

But Lucas was already on board. "He's right," he said firmly. "We can't keep something like this secret. I'll announce it to the whole pack."

A few hours later, nearly every member of the pack was gathered in the large courtyard, waiting for their alpha to speak. I felt every eye on me as I crossed the packed space, whispers and slurs following me like a bad smell.

Finally, Lucas stepped forward and addressed the crowd. "I want you all to know that we have a visitor," he began.

There was a murmur of agreement from the crowd, but I could feel the hostility simmering just beneath the surface.

"I wanted to let you all know that this visitor is not just anyone. She is a valuable member of our community, and we should all be grateful to have her with us."

There was a moment of stunned silence, and then a few hesitant claps. Gradually, the claps grew louder, and I felt a small grin stretch across my face in spite of myself. Maybe things were going to be okay after all.

As I was walking away from the assembly, someone grabbed my arm and pulled me back. It was Lucas' chosen mate, a haughty and beautiful girl with long blonde hair . Cassandra Lancaster. I had spoken too quickly that everything was going to be okay after all.

"What are you doing back here?" she sneered at me.

"That's none of your concern," I retorted, trying to move past her.

"Don't act so pretentious," she scoffed. "You're the idiot who got rejected by Lucas six years ago. You're nothing but a fool."

I let out a bitter laugh. "You're the one who's pretentious, not me."

"Please," she rolled her eyes. "You're just bitter because Lucas chose me over you."

I just wanted to slap her but I hold myself back.

I clenched my jaw, fighting the urge to lash out. "Just leave me alone," I snapped before walking away.

But as I walked away, I knew what I needed to do. I had to heal Elijah as quickly as possible and then leave.

I collected Elijah's blood and saliva samples to examine them. But I knew that I needed modern medical equipment to perform the necessary tests. So, I had to return to the human world.

I went to see Lucas in his apartments, he had with his best friend Drew, I didn't really feel it because. When Lucas saw me, he came to me .

"I need to go back to the human world," I told Lucas, still angry about what happened with Cassandra the viper.

"Why? What for?" he asked, curious.

"I need modern medical equipment to perform the necessary tests," I explained.

"But can't those tests be done here?" he questioned.

"No, they can't," I responded firmly, "I have to go back there urgently."

Lucas narrowed his eyes suspiciously, "Are you trying to flee?"

I nervously laughed, "No, of course not. But I know you'll think that. I don't need anyone to come with me."

Lucas seemed hesitant, "I don't know..."

"I'm not a child," I reminded him, "I made a promise to you and your father, and I intend to keep it. It's up to you to decide - either I go and try to save your father's life, or I stay and do nothing."

Lucas weighed the pros and cons before finally nodding, "Fine. Go. But be careful."

I thanked him and left to prepare for my journey back to the human world.

When I arrived, I disguised myself with a wig and dark glasses.

I couldn't help but notice the posters of me everywhere with the word "missing" written in bold. I shed a few tears, realizing that Damien must have been worried sick about me, not to mention our triplets.

I was missing my fiancé Damien and our triplets. I knew I had to heal Elijah and then come back to the human world to be with my family.

I hurriedly composed myself and made my way to the laboratory to get the samples from Elijah examined.

"I had to quickly heal Elijah and then come back here to the human world to live with my family," I said to myself as I composed myself.

Once arrived, I went to the reception of the laboratory.

"Excuse me, can I help you?" The receptionist at the laboratory asked.

"Yes, I need to use the machine for sample examination," I replied.

"Alright, that will be $50," she said.

"Here you go," I handed her the money.

"I'm sorry but the machine is currently being used, you'll have to wait," she informed me.

I nodded and took a seat in the waiting area. My heart was pounding, and I was sweating on my face and palms. It was nerve-wracking to be out in public like this, but I had to get the samples examined as soon as possible.

As I wait for the machine, I feel my nerves getting the best of me. What if someone recognizes me?

"The machine is free now, you're welcome to use it," the receptionist told me.

"Thank you," I said and got up.

That's when I heard a familiar voice.

"Excuse me," the familiar voice said

I turn around and come face to face with Grace, my colleague at Damien's clinic.

"Oh, hi," I say, trying not to sound nervous.

As she approached me, I tried to be as nonchalant as possible, but my heart was racing.

"I thought I recognized you, what brings you here?" she asked.

"I, uh, just needed to get some samples examined," I answered quickly, hoping she doesn't ask anymore questions.

The look on her face was suspicious, and I felt like I was caught.

" You look so familiar," Grace said, eyeing me suspiciously.

My heart raced as I tried to think of a way to deflect her attention. The last thing I needed was for my cover to be blown.

You knew it was me all along. You brought me here on purpose. You planned this.”“I didn’t!” Lucas said, his voice rising for the first time. “Damn it, Lilian, I didn’t know about the kids. And then you dragged me here.”He opened his mouth. Closed it. Then sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Yes. I was desperate.”I laughed bitterly. “There it is.”“I didn’t poison you,” he said again. “But when I saw how sick you were… I knew it was the o

What did you—”“Calm yourself.” The woman pressed a hand to my shoulder, surprisingly strong. “He didn’t harm you. He brought you here after you collapsed. You’ve been unconscious for almost two days.”Two… days?

I blinked up at the ceiling, unsure for a moment where I even was. Then the sting in my chest reminded me. Damien. The argument. The slammed door.Right. He didn’t come back last night.I turned my head and looked at the empty side of the bed. Cold. No dent in the pillow. He hadn’t even thought about returning. And that said everything, didn’t it?I stared at the ceiling for a while, feeling completely hollow. I should’ve cried. Maybe screamed. But there was just this stillness inside me, like the grief had settled so deep it didn’t know how to crawl out anymore. After a while, I forced myself to get up. I didn’t want to mope in bed all day. My feet hit the floor and I immediately felt how stiff my legs were. Probably from standing and arguing for what felt like hours yesterday.I dragged myself to the bathroom, splashed cold water on my face,

98Lilian My heart sank at his words, but I forced myself to stay calm, though every part of me wanted to lash out. “Why?” I asked, my voice almost breaking. “Why would you do that, Lucas?”He gave me a look of exaggerated disbelief. “What? A guy like me can’t settle down?”“You and I both know this isn’t about settling down,” I said bitterly, trying to keep the anger from spilling over. “You’re playing a game, as always.”Lucas shrugged, completely unbothered by my accusation. “Maybe I am, maybe I’m not. What does it matter? Grace is head over heels for me, and I thought, why not? Might as well have a little fun.”“Fun?” I repeated, my voice rising despite my best efforts to keep it steady. “You’re talking about someone’s life, Lucas! Grace actually believes this is real!”“And whose fault is that?” he shot back, his smirk fading just slightly. “She chose to believe what she wanted. I never promised her a fairy tale.”“You proposed to her!” I spat, unable to contain my frustration a

97Lilian I stood there, frozen for a moment after Grace left, her excitement lingering in the air while I was trapped in a whirlpool of my own thoughts. Damien hadn’t said a word since she left, but I could feel the storm brewing inside him. His shoulders were tense, and he kept running a hand through his hair, something he only did when he was stressed beyond measure.I cleared my throat, trying to ease the tension in the room. "Damien, what’s going on?" I asked softly, stepping closer to him. "You’re clearly not fine."He stopped pacing, his eyes meeting mine, and I could see the frustration brewing behind them. "Lilian, we need to talk," he said, his voice low but sharp. My stomach clenched. I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear what was coming next."What’s wrong?" I pressed, hoping to keep the conversation calm.He took a deep breath, rubbing his temples like he was trying to gather the right words. "It’s about the money."I blinked, confused. "The money? 96Lilian A few days later, I sat on the sofa, half-watching a TV show that I wasn’t really invested in. My mind kept drifting back to Lisa’s situation and the overwhelming feeling of helplessness that had gripped me since my conversation with Rebecca. The tension in the house was palpable, but I was trying to distract myself, anything to escape the weight of reality for a little while.Suddenly, I heard a loud knock at the door, followed by the unmistakable sound of someone letting themselves in. Before I could even process what was happening, Grace came barreling into the living room like a whirlwind."Lilian!" she shouted, her voice brimming with excitement as she practically leapt at me. I barely had time to react before she was hugging me tightly, her energy infectious. “Grace, what—?” I started, trying to get a word in as she pulled back and thrust her hand in front of my face. I blinked, trying to focus on what she was showing me.Her eyes were practically glowing with joy as
