Am I Clear?

“Can you tell your master if I can go out? This place feels so empty and suffocating."

Sophia said to the maid cleaning her room. She threw a cherry into her mouth, suckling on it. She crossed her leg.

A week had passed since the funeral, but Sophia seemed strangely cheerful. She wandered through the house with a smile on her face, a lightness in her step.

Every little thing seemed to amuse her, and laughter followed, drifting through the walls as though nothing happened.

It scared everyone, but there was nothing they could do but attend to her every need as per Luca’s instructions.

The maid smiled and nodded, dusting the table with a rag.

“Yes, miss."

The maid finished cleaning in minutes and left.

Sophia shoved the plate of cherries aside and sprawled across her bed. Staring at the milk-coloured ceiling of the canopy bed.

Her gaze wandered around the room before she shifted restlessly against the sheets.

He hadn't given her her phone yet when he’d promised to do so, which irked her.

She pushed the plate away.

It rolled across the bed before tumbling to the floor with a sharp clink. A scream tore from her throat.

She grabbed the sheets and pillow and threw them across the room.

She marched to the vase on the table beside the door and knocked it to the floor, sending it crashing into pieces.

The water splashed on her, but she didn’t care; she only stepped on its vase shards and moved to the door, banging on it.

She tried the knob, but it didn’t open.

It was locked.

“You asshole. I want to leave this place. Come and open this door now."

She continued banging on it and shouting, but no one answered.

“What’s wrong with her?”

Luca stood by the side as the doctor checked Sophia’s vitals and cleaned the wounds on her feet.

He had been out and saw a commotion in front of her room when he returned, knowing no one would enter even if she were dying.

Those were the instructions he had laid. No one was to enter her room on no account.

“She is drained. Malnourished. And her blood level is low. She needs a lot of healthy food and rest."

The doctor said and began packing his things up inside his briefcase, looking up at Luca, his face stolid.

“She needs a lot of rest,”

“And that she would get, doctor."

Luca nodded his head at the doctor and led him out of the room before returning back to Sophia on the bed.

He tucked a stray hair away from her face and leaned down to kiss her forehead.

With his eyes closed, he pressed his lips to her forehead. He didn’t notice her eyes flutter open and was gawping at him.

“What are you doing?” Sophia asked.

He retreated, clearing his throat, and tucked his hands into his pocket.

“Nothing”

Sophia sat up from the bed, making the duvet pull back from her body.

“That didn’t look like anything to me. You were…”

“That was nothing," he brushed it off.

“You need to start eating. The doctor said you were malnourished and drained, which shouldn’t be in the books of this place. Eat the food the maids bring up to you. I told you I won’t be letting you go until I know you are capable of taking care of yourself."

She lifted her chin defiantly and rolled her eyes.

“And if I don’t?”

Luca smirked, an expression that didn’t come off easily, bending low to her level to make them face-to-face.

“Remember”

He tapped the side of her head with his fingers.

“I haven’t given you your phone yet. I don’t think you would like to know what I would withhold more if you don’t obey me. Would we?”

Her throat bobbed; she leaned away from him, clutching the bedsheet tightly in her fist.

“Am I clear?” He asked, standing up, his face going back to being aloof.

He didn't want to subject himself to such a level, but she was too stubborn to listen with too many things right now on his plate.

He didn’t want her to add to that and the promise he made to her father.

“Yes,” she said under her breath.

He kissed her on the forehead and left for the door. Kissing her on the forehead was becoming a norm for him.

He didn’t know if he should like or hate it. He’d never had a woman this close to him who wasn’t related to him.

He knew what he was getting himself into if he didn’t let her go on the expected time and date.

“A maid is going to bring in food right now as soon as I leave. Anything you would want to eat specifically?”

He stood by the door, his back to her.

Hand hovering near the handle. He didn’t know why but he didn’t want to look at her face.

She said nothing, and he hummed, asking again.

“No,” she answered.

He said nothing and opened the door and left. Sophia slumped on the bed, releasing a large breath.

She placed a hand over her chest as her racing heartbeat slowly began to settle. The air between them had felt unbearably thick.

Her pulse pounded violently beneath her skin. She swallowed, wrapping her hands around herself.

What was happening?

Whatever was happening, she didn't want to be in it but only to leave this place.

  • Under His Rule: Bound To The Mafia Boss     She Is Safe

The scene before Luca had him rethinking the decisions he was about to make, but it was the only way to secure his house and properties from the clutches of the government. No matter how many police officers you had in your pocket, they would always act on orders. And Luca didn't want any orders being carried out on his property. Not now. He had Sophia to protect and take care of. More smoke rose into the sky as the fire grew, flames feeding hungrily on every gust of wind that swept through the maze. They were in late spring, and rain didn't seem like something that would fall anytime soon. Perfect. Luca rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and snapped his fingers, catching the attention of his head of security, who was gawking at the rising flames like he was watching a fucking work of art. “Get me a fire hose.” “A hose?” His head of security's eyes widened, his mouth falling open. Luca stepped closer to him. This was it. There was no room for panic. He licked his lips and

  • Under His Rule: Bound To The Mafia Boss    Don’t Die. I Still Need You

Luca said nothing and moved closer to her, squatting down. He would do anything she wanted if it meant feeling her skin against his. Right now, he just wanted to leave this place in one piece, without injuries. He staggered forward as she practically threw herself onto his back. “Hold on tight,” he said, standing up. She locked her legs around his waist, and he tensed but grabbed her thighs to keep her steady nonetheless. He gritted his teeth at how smooth her skin was and how he might never get another chance to feel those legs wrapped around his neck, his waist, his skin. Not with another man. He closed his eyes for a brief moment but quickly opened them to see where he was going. He knew he had nothing up his sleeve that could make her forgive him. But who forgave the man who killed their beloved father? No one. Probably not even him. He shook his head, refusing to go back to that gory scene from that day. People like Sophia would grab an opportunity to escape like a wo

Luca silently followed behind Sophia, showing her the way whenever required. Not a word passed between them after the showdown inside the maze. He wasn’t speechless. He was a confused mess. Nothing was clicking. While he was in his head, thinking about how he was going to kill and destroy his enemies to get Sophia out of his thoughts, he didn’t notice her trying to jump over a wire. And that wire was— He heard her gasp. “Ah, ah, ah. Ow…” He immediately sprinted toward her. The moment he saw the wire, he pulled her away from it. His heart pounded when he saw how her leg had caught the wire and strained it from its position. He lifted her away from it carefully. His eyes stayed on the connection between her leg and the wire. It wasn’t a normal electrical wire. It was connected to the alarm. An alarm that was about to— “Shit,” Luca cussed. If they didn’t leave soon, and he couldn’t switch it off, this place would go up in flames. He didn’t want to be one of the things feedi

Luca groaned and angled her head for him to take her lips into his mouth more deeply. He probed her lips for entrance, and she whimpered, but Luca swallowed it up with his tongue slipping in without hesitation. Their lips fought for dominance, but Luca kissed her with precision and authority. Sophia gave in, pressing her hand against his chest, trying to push him. “St—” He claimed her mouth again, not giving her a breather as he sucked down on her lips and tongue. She raised her hand to his hair to push him away, but her fingers tugged him closer, seeking him out. “So stubborn," he murmured through the kisses and bit into her lower lip. The metallic taste of blood flowed into his mouth, and he sucked it all up. This was it. Heaven. Sophia turned and faced him, the dam breaking, and she dragged him to her, pressing her chest to him. Her tank top was so light that Luca felt the pucker of her tightened nipples. He pulled away from her to look at her face, but everyw

Leaves rustled; the air howled, echoing the night breeze. Sophia let out a shaky breath. She didn’t know the time, only that time had passed hours and the day had gone darker, yet no one was here and the road wasn’t ending, only getting more confusing. She hasn’t even heard a voice or anything; it’s like she was forgotten. She buried her face into her hands while sitting on her haunches, scared to sit on her bum and have something or an insect creep in. She was putting on a skirt and a flimsy tank top; she groaned to herself and pondered why she was stubborn, but she had to. Sophia was miserable and tired of waking up to the same walls and environment every day; she realized she might lose her sanity before even really leaving. “Fuck you, Luca," she hissed as tears slipped down her face. She was fed up and drained from everything. She’s tried stomaching what’s been going on for the past few weeks, but it was indigestible, and now she is choking and soon will vomit it, li

  • Under His Rule: Bound To The Mafia Boss    The Maze

It's been three days since Luca went back home from his club, as much as he wanted to see Sophia’s face and feel her skin beneath his palm. Touch and feel—she was real, where he left her; that would be when she was asleep and he didn’t want a sleeping princess. He was no prince and didn’t want to be one. He rubbed his hand down from his hair to his face and took a gulp from the drink in his hand. This was depressing, he knew, pining over a woman that saw him as nothing but a murderer. There was no way he could convince her otherwise from what she had seen the day her father died, not like it was a lie, but there was more to it. He groaned and pressed his forehead with his fingers. Headache. She was giving him a non-stop headache, and he didn’t know how to relieve it. He stood up from his chair, ready to go back to his room. He had a room here, inside his office, for meetings that ran into the night and locations that were too far off from his house. This place was close
