Mia's POV:

The cat was out of the bag now. I had promised Chloe that I wouldn't say a word of what I saw in the apartment. But now, I was being accused of killing the man that they'd kidnapped.

Did Armani frame me?

So, I told them. They were extremely disappointed in me. I could tell from the way their eyes hardened ever so slightly. It brought tears to my eyes.

“I was going to tell you. I didn't mean to lie,” I said, hoping that I wouldn't cry. “Chloe begged me. I trusted her and thought that I would keep it that way for a while. At least until I found out what her game was. I didn't know she was going to frame me for murder.”

“Hey, hey, hey,” Jackson said, coming close to holding my head in his hands. He made me look into his grey eyes. “It's okay. Breathe. We're not angry at you.”

“But you're disappointed,” I said, my voice sounding smaller than I wanted it to. I realized that I was scared of disappointing them more than anything. When this happened, I don't know.

Mia's POV:“I don't compel people without their permission unless it's necessary. And you're under the nest of the Triplets. I would be a fool to mess with one of their own.” Cassian replied. He kinda looked hurt. That was impossible. He was probably hundreds of years old. Me accusing him of something he'd heard over and over again couldn't possibly hurt him.Oh.Cassian hearing it so many times doesn't make it hurt less. He would have to be numb for that to happen. I was a terrible person.“I'm sorry. I've not been in the company of vampires so, I don't know what works or doesn't.” I apologized.“Have a little trust. I'm your legal attorney, after all,” he said with a bit of his humor back. “And you can't blame yourself. I'm an ethereal being.”I rolled my eyes. “You're so full of yourself,” I said.“I have a perfect reply for that but, if I say it, Jaxon is going to try to rip my throat out with his bare hands, without the claws,” Cassian said.‘I think I know what he was going to s

Mia's POV:When we got back to the car, Cassian didn't immediately start the car. We sat there silently for a few moments. “You did good. You didn't panic and you answered questions directly.”“They rearranged the room,” I said, sounding breathless. “They switched up everything. They made it look like I’m insane.”I looked at Cassian. Surprisingly, he looked calm. The direct opposite of how I felt and probably looked. “I just wasn't framed because I went to the apartment. They thought this through. Armani probably already stole the knife before I snuck in. I made it easier for him.”“You're having a valid reaction, Mia. And I understand. But, this gives us a clear ground on what we have to tackle.” He started the car, driving us back in the direction of the mansion.“This just sucks. The first few cases I decided to dip my feet into, they slapped a murderer on my head. I haven't been to the orphanage in days and my house probably isn't even safe anymore.” I complained putting on my se

Mia's POV:Cassian was right, of course. After the detective introduced himself, he began to ask me questions like where I was born, health issues, and family records. He needed to confirm the information that they already had on me.It was protocol, so he said. After that, he began to ask me about my connection to Pedro. I told him that I didn't know him personally but I recognized his picture because I had seen him once. That threw the detective off just a bit. “You've only seen him once?” He asked.“Yes,” I replied.“Where were you on the day of Pedro Infanto’s murder?” The detective asked, getting right into the main question.“I was at work. And then I got a call. So, I came to the apartment building. That was around 11am or 12pm. I left less than twenty minutes later.” I told him.“You were caught sneaking into Armani’s apartment the day of Pedro’s murder. Why?” he asked. I expected him to ask me why I had gone there but this helps.I decided to go for the truth. “His girlfriend

Mia's POV:“Mia!” A voice shrieked. It has been a day or so since Cassian left. He was going to gather evidence that he needed to defend me. Or at least contort it to prove my innocence.I turned to look at the door. There was the blond secretary who I had bonded over in a booked-out beauty parlor.“Felicity!” I screamed, standing to my feet. She let go of the box she was holding and ran towards me, hugging me.Thank the goddess she was back.“I missed you so much. I could barely enjoy my vacation.” She said after we pulled apart.I laughed. “Yeah. You missed me so much that you're glowing and you have a visible—but sexy—tan.”She flipped her hair over her shoulder, looking away from me, and then smiled. “I mean, the beach had such an attractive view.”“Or an attractive man,” I said narrowing my eyes at the spots on her neck. “You have a hickey.”Her eyes widened and she hovered her hand over my mouth. She looked around dramatically. “Keep it on the down low. No one can know that I ha

Mia's POV:For some reason, I glanced at the time. I needed to know how long I was going to be compelled.I remembered seeing his eyes change colors and Cassian saying, “Tell me everything that happened the day you went to Chloe and Armani’s apartment building. Every detail, including the color of the shirt you wore, the room Pedro was in, the state of the apartment, and the body language of the people you met. Everything.”When I came to, Jaxon and the others were sitting watching. I saw Jaxon's jaw thick. I guess he wasn't as pleased to find out that I had agreed to be compelled.I checked the time. Almost twenty minutes had gone by. I shivered. “Never do that again.”“I won't. These men would have killed me if I wasn't faster than they were.” Cassian said, taking notes. I noticed that his shirt was unbuttoned at the top and the tie was hanging loosely around his neck. “I had to tell them you agreed.”Damn. They'd tried to fight him?Jace sat next to me. “Are you okay? Do you feel d

Mia's POV:There was a knock on the door. I was currently at the Triplet's mansion. Melanie came with me. She wanted to know what it was like living in a mansion, and this whole murder situation gave her the opportunity.I walked towards the door and unlocked it. There, on the other side, was a tall man with blond hair. He wore a navy blue suit with a patterned yellow tie. He wore round glasses, and I felt like I'd seen him somewhere.“Hi, how may I help you?” I asked, holding onto the door.He fished out a card from his pocket and handed it to me. “My name is Cassian D’ Angelo— defense attorney.” After I took his card, he held out his hand, and I shook it.“Oh, you must be the lawyer the Triplets talked about. Come on in.” I opened the door wider to let him in. We walked down the hallway to the first living room. “Have a seat. I'll go get them.”Cassian nodded, unbuttoning the jacket of his suit. He took a seat and crossed his legs.I looked at him briefly before taking the stairs.
