Chapter Twenty-Two

The rest of the day was uneventful. Suzy was in my last two periods. She normally sits by herself at the back of class, so I decided that my seat is now next to hers.

By the end of the school day, her stutter had improved and I realized how she had managed to get a full ride to Rivers Forge Academy. She is a fucking genius.

We are heading to the hall for assembly when another human girl stops us, well not me, but Suzy. "Hi Suzy, um I was wondering if you wanted to sit with us again, um now um, I mean," she takes a deep breath, "we are sorry we didn't protect you, we were scared and we let you down, but after what happened to Naomi last year, we thought things would never change."

Suzy is looking at her feet. I could feel the uncertainty in her. I touched her shoulder, "sweetie, I think you should give them a chance, and if they let you down again, then you just need to find me, okay?"

She nodded and I left the group of human girls and found Robyn. She winked at me, "I see Suzy
