Alex’s POV

The moment the hospital doors burst open, everything blurred. Nurses rushed forward, a stretcher rolling between their hands, and my father… my pillar…lay limp on it, oxygen mask strapped to his face. I ran alongside them, breath uneven, chest burning.

“Dad…Dad! Can he hear me?!” My voice cracked, raw.

A nurse shook her head. “Sir, we need space. Please let us do our job.”

But I couldn’t slow down. I couldn’t breathe. I followed until we reached the red double doors leading into the emergency wing, and that’s where a nurse stepped in front of me, palms pressuring my chest backward.

“Sir, you can’t go in. Please…wait here.”

Wait.

That word was becoming a curse in my life.

I stood there frozen, my hands shaking, heart thundering against my ribs so violently I feared it’d give out too. The red doors sealed closed, locking my father behind them.

And that’s when everything hit.

Anna losing our child.

Anna being accused of Sammy’s death.

My position ripped from me.

Rissa’s POV“Okay… everyone mute yourselves because the sound is echoing!” I said, pushing back my hair as four chaotic faces flashed across my laptop screen.“Girl, YOU unmute us,” Zara snapped, laughing.I groaned and hit the control button.“There. Now talk.”Immediately the screen erupted.“Rissa, is this finally happening?” Liane squealed, practically shaking her phone.Kayla gasped dramatically, her hand on her chest. “Please tell me this is not another false alarm. I already bought two dresses for the last two postponements.”Tessa rolled her eyes. “Kayla, you didn’t buy dresses. You added them to your Pinterest board.”“That’s emotional commitment,” Kayla shot back.I laughed… really laughed. It felt good.“Yes, ladies. It’s happening. No more postponing.”I paused, letting it sink in.“Kristoff and I are finally getting married.”Zara clapped her hands above her head.“Finally! I was beginning to think this was an engagement marathon with no finish line.”“Same!” Tessa added.

Kristoff’s POV“I already began planning baby..”Rissa stood in front of me, her brows slightly knit as she smoothed the lapels of my suit jacket for the third time. She’d been humming under her breath… some upbeat tune… while adjusting my tie like she’d been doing it forever. Funny, considering she barely noticed it yesterday. Now she was glowing. All because of one sentence.Let’s get married. Two years of engagement suddenly meant everything to her.Her eyes lifted, meeting mine with excitement dancing in them.“So…” she started breathlessly, “…i called the florist, who confirmed availability. I called three venues last night, and two can accommodate us within the two-week deadline. I’m waiting to hear from the cathedral but worst case…” she lifted a shoulder, “…we do it outdoors. A fall garden wedding could look dreamy.”I nodded like I cared.I didn’t… at least not about flowers or venues or dresses. But I needed this energy from her. This eagerness.“God, two weeks, babe” she re

Alex’s POVI walked out of the hospital room without realizing my legs were moving. My footsteps echoed down the hallway, but the sound felt far away… like it belonged to someone else. My chest felt tight, my mind hollow, and exhaustion pressed behind my eyes so heavily I thought they might shut permanently. Two straight weeks. Two weeks of accusations, lawyers, humiliation, reporters, unanswered calls, sleepless nights, panic, damage control, and loss.Yet somehow… things still kept falling apart. When I finally stepped outside, the cold breeze slapped my face, waking me enough to register the scene in front of me.Kristoff was standing near the hospital entrance… perfectly put together in a tailored suit… as if this was some red-carpet event and not our father fighting for his life inside.Beside him stood Rissa, her arms folded, chin lifted in support of him.Reporters swarmed them both, cameras flashing, microphones being shoved in their faces. And Kristoff…god…he was smiling.Tal

Alex’s POVI couldn’t sit still. My knee bounced, my fingers tapped the arm of the leather chair, and I must’ve checked the wall clock every thirty seconds.12:41 PM.12:55 PM.12:59 PM.It was supposed to air after the noon bulletin. This was my chance…finally…my chance to explain myself, clear my name, and turn the tide before everything slipped beyond recovery. But the newsroom buzz around me stayed the same…busy, chaotic, normal…nothing that suggested I was about to speak live on national television. My palms were sweaty. My heart wouldn’t slow down.I ran a hand through my hair and exhaled sharply. What if they changed their mind? What if someone stopped it?What if…My thoughts cut off when Marcus appeared from the hallway.I shot to my feet.“You’re here,” I said quickly. “Good. Am I on now?”I hated how desperate I sounded but there was no masking it.Marcus didn’t answer immediately.Instead, he inhaled deeply and rubbed a hand across his jaw…the kind of movement you make whe

Kristoff’s POVThe line went dead.I let the silence linger…savoring it…like the last note of a symphony conducted to perfection. Finally, finally, everything was aligning.Anna was cornered.Alex was spiraling. And the board of Quinn’s Corp was within reach…mine for the taking.I leaned back in my leather chair and let out a slow, satisfied breath. She broke.Just like I knew she would.Fear always wins. With a small smirk, I swiveled my chair, turning toward the polished shelves lining the office wall…lined with expensive bottles in darker hues: bourbons, aged scotch, whiskey older than some countries.A man celebrates when the game reaches its final moves.I walked to the bar, selected a crystal decanter, and poured myself a heavy glass. The amber liquid caught the light beautifully… a victory color if I ever saw one.I tossed it back in one go.The liquor hit fast and clean, burning through my chest and down my throat. My jaw tightened against the sting, but the sensation felt ear
