Ken couldn't get Bella's message off his mind. “Ken, please come, it's urgent.” That was what she wrote, short and direct. He read it again as he sat at the dining table, picking slowly at the food in front of him.

Kunle, his friend, noticed the way Ken kept frowning at his phone and shaking his head.

“ O boy, weti dey worry you?”

  • Unexpectedly His   Chapter Forty Nine: Letting Go.

Chapter Forty Nine: Letting GoThe night dragged endlessly for Ken. He lay on his bed, his mind refusing to rest. The ceiling seemed to mock him with its silence, and every tick of the clock felt louder than usual. He kept turning from side to side, his thoughts running faster than his heartbeat. The events of the day replayed in his mind the doctor’s words, Mercy’s foolish mistake, and the bitter loss that came with it.He sighed heavily and sat up, rubbing his face with his palms. The money he had spent, the sleepless nights, the stress all seemed wasted. But beyond the financial loss, it was the emotional weight that crushed him most. He had dreamed of becoming a father, of holding his child for the first time. And now, that dream has vanished just like smoke.Ken thought about the hospital and how carelessly they handled everything. He regretted ever choosing that place. Yet, somewhere deep down, he also felt that maybe this was not just a coincidence. Maybe God was trying to tell

Chapter Forty Eight: Shattered HopeIt was a bright Wednesday morning, around 11 a.m. The soft rays of sunlight poured into Ken’s glass-walled office, glinting off the table where a few open files sat. He was in the middle of an important meeting with some clients, trying to finalize a deal that had taken weeks of back-and-forth negotiations. Every word he said had to be calculated, every gesture controlled. But just when the discussion began to take a good shape, his phone started ringing nonstop. It was buzzing loudly on the table, cutting through the calmness of the room. Ken frowned slightly, trying to ignore it, but the persistent sound drew the attention of everyone in the room. He gestured apologetically to the clients and signaled to his secretary to check who it was.The secretary picked up the phone, glanced at the screen, and whispered, “Sir, it’s from Doctor Ade. He’s been calling repeatedly.”Ken’s heart skipped a beat. Doctor Ade? That was the doctor in charge of the hos

Lisa stirred the pot carefully, humming a soft tune as she tasted the stew. It was Saturday, and cooking had always been her therapy. Something about the rhythm of it calmed her.Just as she reached for the seasoning, a sharp knock echoed through the apartment. She frowned a little, rinsed her hands quickly, and wiped them with a kitchen towel. Who could that be this early? she wondered, walking toward the door. She was dressed in a short denim bum shot and a sleeveless top, her usual home outfit when she opened the door. Standing there was Ken, grinning like a little boy who had just found his favorite toy.He looked effortlessly handsome in his black joggers and white polo. His hair was neatly brushed, and that familiar scent of his cologne drifted toward her, the one that always reminded her of expensive wood and calm mornings.L

  • Unexpectedly His   Chapter Forty Six: A Step Toward Healing

His black suit fit perfectly, his shoes shone, and yet his heart felt heavy. He stared at the wristwatch on his hand, trying to calm the uneasiness stirring inside him. It had been weeks since he last saw Faith, and though they had exchanged a few calls, her tone was still cold, polite, but distant. He leaned back on the couch, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as if searching for courage there. What if she refuses to see me? What if she’s still angry? he thought. He wanted to make things right this time not with words alone but with actions. After a few moments of silence, he decided to pick up the gift box he had arranged earlier. Inside were her favorite fruits, a pack of chocolates, and a bouquet of fresh red roses. He took a deep breath, muttered a short prayer for strength, switched off his electronic gadgets, locked his door, and stepped out.The ride to Faith

But when the call persisted, he finally snatched the phone from the table and glared at the screen. The number was the same one that sent the message earlier.Without thinking, he picked up the call, his voice laced with irritation. “Why are you calling me?” he demanded sharply. “And how did you even get my number?”There was a short pause, then a low, almost teasing chuckle from the other end. “Does it really matter how I got it?” Mercy’s voice came, smooth and calm. “I just felt like talking to you.”Ken’s hand tightened around the phone. “Talking to me?” he repeated, his anger rising. “After everything that happened this morning? After all my warnings? It’s like you don’t love yourself, Merc

The anger from the hospital had not left him; it clung to his chest like smoke that refused to clear. He walked into his office, dropped his briefcase carelessly on the table, and sat down with a deep sigh. For a moment, he just stared blankly at the computer screen, trying to push back the thoughts of Mercy and the chaos she had caused. He was so lost in his own head that he didn’t hear the door open until a voice pulled him back.“Good morning, sir,” his secretary said, stepping in with a file.Ken startled slightly, then blinked, realizing someone was in front of him. “Oh uh, good morning,” he said quickly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you come in.”The young man smiled awkwardly. “It’s alright, sir.
