Chapter Thirty-Seven — A New Beginning

It was a calm evening, around 8 p.m. The soft sound of clinking plates echoed from the dining area as Mr. Walter, Ken’s father, finished his dinner with Ken and Lisa. The house help was clearing the table while the three of them walked toward the sitting room. The mood in the house was warm and peaceful, but underneath that peace was a silent sadness Mr. Walter was traveling the next day, and everyone could feel the weight of his absence already.

They settled into the large living room, the gentle hum of the ceiling fan filling the silence. Mr. Walter adjusted his reading glasses, looked at his son with seriousness, and said, “Ken, you’ll be keeping an eye on my staff—my driver, the security men, and the house help. You know how some of them can be careless when I’m not around.”

Ken nodded slowly, his face calm. “Sure, Dad. I’ll do that.”
