Chapter 85

Author: Angelica1
In the room, Linda could not hide her glee when she heard Henry's determined retort.

Still, she flinched as she felt the snakes slithering over her.

She really did not want to stay here for another moment longer, and hence cried miserably, "Henry, I'm so scared… Get me out of here…"

While she really was scared, she wanted to add insult to injury too.

After all, Tina had barely locked her in here for a minute, and Henry was already ready to free her.

On the other hand, he did not give a damn even though Tina had been locked up for almost a day.

She certainly felt cathartic as she imagined the door opening and Henry carrying her out of her while Tina watched!

Tina would never win against her!

Outside, Henry told Madam Barnes, "Let Linda go. This has nothing to do with her— I was the one who locked Tina up."

That only left Madam Barnes laughing coldly. "No chance—not after you locked up Tina for an entire day for Linda! I'm giving it to you straight—if she isn't locked up just as

Even if Madam Barnes did not see what had happened with her own eyes, she could imagine what Tina had been put through.Henry was taken aback—that was so far back that he had completely forgotten. He had promised Madam Barnes to take care of Tina when she had first arrived, but he never really cared about her.She only got his attention as she started trailing him whenever he wanted, calling his name in that sweet voice of hers, which sounded just like Orange's.And it was because of Orange that he protected her—that was all there is to it.On the other hand, Tina's expression cooled when she saw Henry's shock, and she pulled her hand from his grasp. In the end, he had long forgotten what she guarded so preciously inside her heart.Even if she had always cherished that moment, it was just so insignificant to him.And for a moment, she had no idea what hurt her more—the fact that he never remembered, or the fact that she thought he did and deliberately used that memory to hurt h

Hearing what had happened, the bodyguards looked inside with night vision goggles and opened the door when they ensured that Linda had fainted. They went inside, impassive as they revived her, making sure that she suffered as much as possible.Rinse, and repeat.-Once Madam Barnes returned to Barnes Ranch, she immediately led Henry and Tina to the family altar. "You. Stand right there," she soon snapped at Henry.Henry knew what Madam Barnes wanted and did not argue. He kept his eyes on Tina's pale face as he unbuttoned his coat, taking it off and passing it to Sam.He stood, with his perfect figure accentuated with his white shirt.Madam Barnes herself went to the rack to bring the whip to Tina."Don't hold back. Hit him hard—he deserves it."Madam Barnes was fuming too. Remembering the state she had found Tina in that basement, she wanted to whip Henry violently just so that he would come around.Even if she did not see what had happened, she knew what kind of torment

Henry stood still through it all, his frame standing firm like a trail. He did not move an inch even as Tina's first lash landed viciously, only glancing sideways ever so slightly to see her pale face.Seeing her eyes were red with rage and hate, an inscrutable emotion showed in his eyes. But he never stopped her, allowing Tina to whip him repeatedly as if it did not hurt, letting her vent all she wanted.Madam Barnes stood nearby as well, not intervening. Her heart sank when she saw how vicious Tina's first stroke was, shocked at how Tina could bring herself to hurt Henry now.Madam Barnes knew very well how much Tina loved Henry, and seeing Tina's eyes flaring with rage and hate, not holding back at all, reminded her of when Tina was first brought to this ranch.Tina was always so careful with everyone, and Madam Barnes had told Henry to take good care of her, worried that she would be bullied.Since Henry had always listened to her, he agreed to it.Still, Tina was afraid o

Thud.As the whip dropped to the floor, Tina's knees buckled as she blacked out and fell backward."Tina!"Even as Madam Barnes exclaimed in shock, Henry quickly reached out, not hesitating even as he pulled the muscles on his back as he moved and was struck by another pang of pain. Before Tina collapsed, his long arms wrapped around her waist just in time, and he scooped her up, frowning ever so slightly. Why did she lose weight again?Still, not bothered by the pain in his back or the fact that he was bleeding, he carried Tina to his bedroom, gently placing her on the bed.Soon, Carl Sandler arrived after Madam Barnes sent for him.As soon as he entered, he immediately saw Henry, whose upper body was covered in blood.Pain and worry showed in his eyes, as he had known Henry since Henry was a child."Please sit, sir. Let me tend to your wounds," he said, sitting up."Tend to her," Henry growled, stepping aside to show Carl the unconscious Tina and gestured for him to tend t

Madam Barnes was suddenly behind Henry, glaring at him.At least his conscience was not completely fed to the dogs!Henry pursed his lips and did not answer, while what little emotion he had just shown faded.Clearly, he refused to admit that he felt guilty. However, Madam Barnes was not letting up.Seeing that Henry felt something, she took out her phone and showed him the photos she had her bodyguards take of the Rose Garden basement, holding it out to him and snapping, "Now look what you did to her!"While the rats had long since fled when the door was open, the gruesome bloody marks on the door were a horrific sight for any pair of eyes.Henry's eyes widened, the unease he had just fought off kicking into his chest again. So that was why she was so furious and violent with him. And seeing that there was hope for him yet, Madam Barnes snapped, "Now take good care of her!"With those words, she finally had the ease of mind to return to her room and rest.As the door close

Whether it was letting Tina whip him at the family altar or caring for her so tenderly now, all Henry wanted was for Tina to back down and agree to free Linda.Five years ago, whenever Madam Barnes tried to punish Linda for Tina's sake, Henry would give Tina no more than a look. And because she loved him so much, she could not stop herself from stopping Madam Barnes, saying that she was fine. She could not even bear to put him through an awkward situation—that was how pathetically she loved him."Tina, Linda's just worried about Rory…."As soon as Henry said it, Tina glowered. It was just as she thought!Kicking her blanket off, she pushed herself out of bed despite the pain. "I'll say it again. You won't convince me to let Linda out early.""Tina Smith!" Henry bellowed, grabbing her right hand and starting to pull her back to bed."Don't touch me."Tina shook him off, getting out of bed and glowering as she strode out.Even before she reached the door, Henry's phone rang.

Since Henry could not tell how great Tina was, Madam Barnes would get someone who loved her and cherished her instead.Walking up to Tina and talking to her hand, she said, "I'll definitely get you a good man."Tina shook her head. "I'm fine, Grandma."Henry was right that she would not go, but it was not because she loved him too much as he believed. She just could not spare the time when she had yet to avenge Sophie.Nonetheless, Madam Barnes sighed as she said earnestly, "I just want someone to be there for you."She certainly had her own motives in trying to get Tina together with Henry.Henry was her dearest grandson, and Tina loved him very much, so she could be at ease since Tina would definitely be good to him.At the same time, she would also like Henry to protect Tina from harm. Now, she understood. As long as Linda was around, she could not count on Henry—she needed to find Tina another man who would be her shelter.Still, Tina leaned on Madam Barnes' shoulder and

Linda sobbed softly as she told Henry about all the torment she had gone through in that basement, every word undoubtedly invoking Henry's rage.As she continued, she could clearly feel the air around him turning cold.Eventually, Linda buried her face against his chest, her lips curled up in glee. She did say she would get back at Tina when she got out anyway.-Tina was not sleeping at Henry's house in Barnes Ranch for the night, instead sleeping in her own room in Madam Barnes' house. She had a fright, so Madam Barnes had her servants make her soup to calm her nerves and bring some scented candles with a soothing aroma to her room.Tina thought it might work, only for her to see the basement whenever she closed her eyes.Unable to sleep, she took out her sleeping pills from her bag, tossing and turning for a while before eventually dozing off. However, when she almost fell asleep, she was lifted firmly off the bed as Henry's chilling tone rang overhead. As long as Zach did not give Henry any proof, Linda's advantage was absolute. As she shot Rory a look, Rory did as she instructed and threatened Zach, "Daddy, if you give Henry the evidence, I'll never forgive you."I love Mommy and don't want anything to happen to her, and I'll die if anything happens to her.""And I'm not kidding, Daddy. Remember, my fate is the same as Mommy's—she gave me life, and I won't live if she's not by my side."Zach's hand was shaking even as he held the telephone receiver.Rory was only seven, but she could talk about death so lightly and threaten him with her own life. Why did she love Linda so much after everything Linda did to her?! How codependent did Linda make her? However, Rory was beyond Zach's reach, and he was really worried she might try to kill herself. As for Henry, it was clear that he did not love Linda anymore, and Rory was ultimately not of his blood. If Henry so much as neglected Rory, she might really die.And Rory was Zach's o

The warden nodded at Zach. "Yes. Now clean yourself up, and then come with me."The other inmates did not know who Zach had met earlier, but were now all happy for him to hear that his daughter had come.He had been constantly talking about her—how adorable she was, how good her grades were, and he was even calling her name in his sleep. As such, they all knew how much he treasured her and urged him to hurry.Still, Zach meticulously groomed his hair and even washed his face to look clean and spirited, and only then did he follow the warden.Soon, he found both Linda and Rory standing there in the non-contact visit room.By now, any lingering affection he felt for Linda had dissipated after she used him like a tool repeatedly. As it was not visitation hours, only Zach, Linda, and Rory were in there. As soon as she sat down and picked up the telephone, Linda did the same on the other end and promptly asked, "Did Henry come to ask you for evidence? Did you give it to him?"Zach

"Yes, it's ready," Yancy said. "Do I send it now?""Yeah," Henry replied. He had personally arranged for everything Mrs. Smith could possibly need, as he wanted very much to make amends. At the same time, he was fulfilling the promise he made when he was ten—to repay Mama Orange's grace. Now that he realized she was alive, he wanted to give her all that was good in the world, so that she would not have anything to worry about for the rest of her life.As they left prison, Andy took a cab.He arranged for all the presents prepared to be delivered to Tina's apartment, while Henry drove straight to the hospital on his own.-Linda was watching as Henry drove off and promptly alighted. She was never one to sit back and wait to die.The first thing she must do now was to determine if Zach had given Henry the evidence and decide what to do from there. If Zach had, then she just had to come up with another plan.Otherwise, she would never let Henry get his hands on the evidence ag

It was Henry's car.He really came, and he arrived earlier than she did.At that moment, Linda felt a chill creeping up from her toes, extending throughout her body. She was terrified at the idea that Zach would really give Henry the evidence.Without evidence, she could just stubbornly deny anything that Tina accused her of doing, and even Henry could not do anything about that. That meant she would still have a chance to use Rory and turn things around, reclaiming her life of privilege. On the other hand, it would be all over for her if Henry really received the evidence.-Meanwhile, Henry was watching Zach with his dark eyes that seemed to pierce his heart, while speaking quietly, "I'm a man of my word, Zach Foster. That little bit of money is really nothing to me."There was no doubt that his offer was very tempting—right now, all Zach wanted was for his daughter to be healthy.Once he served his term and was freed again, he could spend the rest of his life with her, tak

That was why Zach presumed that Henry would keep granting Rory the same life of privilege he gave her before, not knowing what Henry really meant. After all, sending Rory to the worst boarding school, ensuring that she would not starve to death but otherwise completely neglecting her until Zach left prison, could still count as taking care of her.Doing that much, and getting Zach's evidence in exchange, was assuredly a bargain.Still, Zach's eyes widened, his pupils dilating as Henry mentioned Linda hiring someone for murder. His reaction only made Henry even more certain that he had evidence.Nonetheless, Zach only pursed his lips, not acknowledging right away that he had evidence, and did not take Henry's deal.He lowered his gaze, silently thinking.Since he was behind bars, he had no idea what was going on out there. But judging from the fact that Henry came asking, he must have seen through Linda's true nature and would never believe a word she said ever again. And that

But when Zach returned to Linda's hospital room later, he suddenly claimed that there was never evidence—that Tina had bribed him to slander Linda in the first place.Henry found that very suspicious—why would he suddenly change his mind? Then, he remembered that when he caught Linda with Zach the first time, Linda accused Zach of forcing himself on her.Zach denied it and even exposed Linda for abusing Rory to take Rory away from Linda. He had been crying and begging to separate Rory from Linda, or Linda would keep abusing Rory.Henry saw in his eyes then that he really loved Rory. After he left Tina's apartment earlier today, Henry started to reevaluate all the moments in the past that involve Linda. He knew that Zach had lost all hope in Linda and exposed her to take Rory away. That meant Rory would also be the reason he suddenly changed his mind, even allowing himself to be scapegoated for Linda's crimes. That meant Rory was Zach's weakness. So Henry decided to visit him—

Even if Henry heard Rory, she could cry herself hoarse but he would not change his mind.Meanwhile, the security guards kept Linda toward Rory, who had long since lost her shoes, while her socks were torn as they scraped along the ground. The fake nails that she had gone through lengths to maintain were chipped, while one of her nails was knocked off.She grimaced, turning pale in terrible pain. When she finally recovered enough to talk, the security guards dumped her like trash beside Rory, along with her wheelchair."Stay as far away as you can. If you show up here again, we won't be gentle!"With those words, the security guards left.Rory was sobbing as she dropped to her knees beside Linda, fumbling to help her off the ground.Seeing the marks left around her neck and her bleeding legs, her tears poured with heartache. "Does it hurt, Mommy? I'll blow on it, and it won't hurt anymore…"As Linda straightened her back, she completely ignored Rory's concern and slapped her ac

As Henry strangled Linda, he snarled, "Why would Tina push you in the first place?! You knew she was depressed and tried to drive her to suicide with Sophie's ashes! That's why she snapped and fought back!"It's your comeuppance, and you dare blame it on Tina?! You must want to die so badly!"His hands were very strong, and Linda could not breathe. As the fear of death seized her, she clawed at Henry's hand while gasping through her teeth, "I didn't… Tina's lying… Sophie's ashes are still in her grave… You can't take Tina's words at face value…"She had been prepared for this for two years, but Henry was not buying any of it.She was just humiliating herself even though she tried to maintain her innocence. Over the years, she never needed proof to make him believe her just because she had been Orange in his mind. But now, the same thing applied to Tina—Henry was completely refusing to listen to her and had already decided she was guilty. He absolutely hated her guts, and his h

  • Unfulfilled Last Wish   Chapter 536

The security guards had seen how Henry cradled Rory in his arms, smiling at her with more affection than they would with their own daughters. That was why despite what Henry said, they were afraid to get physical, in fear they misjudged their strength and hurt Henry's treasured daughter. Then, after a couple days of when he calmed down, he would be coming for their heads…Still, Henry shot Andy a look just then, and he returned to the security guards as he explained coolly, "Mr. Barnes absolutely loathes these two. You have nothing to worry about."After what Linda and Rory had done, Henry would not stand the sight of them, let alone dote on them.In fact, he only gave a damn before he loved Orange too much and really believed that Linda was Orange, blindly following his feelings instead of being rational. "Yes, Mr. Cox."Andy was Henry's right-hand man, and his words were as good as Henry's words. And Henry's position was clear—Linda and Rory were not allowed to show up here
