The underground archives trembled.

Books rained from the shelves as the horde above smashed through floor after floor. The reinforced iron door at the top of the stairs groaned under relentless pressure. Cracks spider-webbed across the ancient wood.

Kael stood at the front, fully shifted into his massive silver-black wolf form, muscles coiled and ready. Blood from the previous fight still matted his fur. “They’re coming. All of them.”

Damien stood to his left, shadows swirling around him like living armor, crimson eyes glowing with lethal focus. “We hold this position. If they breach the archives, we lose our only defensible spot.”

Serena stood between them, hands raised, violet magic flowing from her palms into the heavy door. Sweat beaded on her forehead. “I’m reinforcing the wards, but I can’t hold forever. There are too many… and some of them are using corrupted magic.”

A distorted voice echoed down the stairwell — twisted, loving, and wrong.

“Serena… my sweet girl… come home…”

Professor Elara. Or what was left of her.

Serena’s hands faltered for a split second. Kael nudged her leg with his massive wolf head, a low, comforting growl rumbling from his chest. She steadied herself and poured more power into the barrier.

Then the door exploded inward.

The Siege Begins

Hundreds of infected poured down the wide stone stairs like a tidal wave of fangs and claws. At the front were Kael’s remaining Delta Howl werewolves — now grotesque, oversized abominations. Behind them came the corrupted coven witches, their once-beautiful violet magic now streaked with sickly black and red lightning.

Kael roared and launched himself forward.

He collided with two infected wolves at once, tearing through them with raw fury. Blood and fur flew as his jaws crushed bone. Damien became a blur of death, shadow-stepping through the horde, ripping out throats with surgical precision. Serena hurled explosive runes that detonated in brilliant violet bursts, incinerating clusters of attackers.

But they kept coming.

A corrupted witch screamed and launched a bolt of black lightning at Serena. She barely raised a shield in time. The impact threw her against a bookshelf. Damien appeared instantly, pulling her up while slashing an infected student who tried to grab her.

“You okay?” he asked, voice tight.

“Keep fighting!” she gasped.

Kael was a whirlwind of violence in the center. Every time he killed one of his former packmates, a piece of him died inside. He recognized their scents even in death. The pain fueled his rage, making him stronger and more terrifying.

A massive infected — the former star quarterback, now mutated into a hulking brute — smashed through the stairs and charged Kael. They collided like two titans. The beast’s fists slammed into Kael’s ribs, cracking bone. Kael answered by sinking his fangs into the creature’s shoulder and ripping out a chunk of flesh.

“Serena!” Damien shouted. “The ceiling!”

Several corrupted witches had climbed the walls and were channeling dark magic into the stone above them. Cracks formed. Dust and debris rained down.

Serena’s eyes blazed with power. She screamed and thrust both hands upward, weaving a massive violet dome that reinforced the entire ceiling. The effort drained her visibly — her nose started bleeding.

“I can’t hold both the door and the ceiling!” she cried.

Kael shifted back to human form mid-battle, covered in blood. “Then we fall back deeper! Damien, grab her!”

The vampire scooped Serena into his arms without hesitation. Kael shifted again and took the rear, roaring defiance as he held the line, buying them precious seconds to retreat further into the restricted archives.

They ran through narrow corridors lined with forbidden grimoires and sealed relics. Behind them, the horde destroyed everything in its path.

Temporary Strongpoint

They barricaded themselves in the Grand Archive Chamber — a circular room with a domed ceiling covered in glowing ley line runes. Ancient pillars supported the structure, and a faint magical circle was etched into the floor.

Serena collapsed against one pillar, breathing hard. “This room… it’s special. The ley lines are strongest here. I can set up a stronger ward, but I need time.”

Kael shifted back to human, naked and breathing heavily. “You heard her. We buy her time.”

Damien nodded, fangs fully extended. “Together.”

The three of them formed a triangle in front of the main entrance to the chamber.

The horde arrived.

Wave after wave crashed against them. Kael became a wall of muscle and fury. Damien danced through shadows, striking vital points. Serena, even while preparing the big ward, threw precise spells that saved them multiple times.

At one point, an infected witch got too close to Serena. Kael tackled it mid-air, protecting her with his own body. Claws raked his back deeply. He roared in pain but didn’t let go until Damien finished the creature.

Serena looked at the blood pouring down Kael’s back, eyes filling with something deeper than gratitude.

The bond between them was growing — forged in blood, loss, and shared survival.

After what felt like hours, Serena finally shouted, “It’s ready!”

She slammed her hands onto the floor. Violet light exploded outward, racing through the ley line runes. A powerful dome shield engulfed the entire Grand Archive Chamber. The horde slammed against it, but this time the barrier held strong.

The three survivors collapsed inside their new sanctuary, chests heaving, bodies exhausted and bloodied.

Kael leaned against a pillar, looking at the other two. “We made it… for now.”

Damien, surprisingly gentle, wiped blood from Serena’s face. “You were incredible.”

Serena smiled weakly, then winced as she noticed Kael’s deep wounds. She crawled over and placed her hands on his back, channeling healing magic. The warmth of her touch felt like salvation.

For a long moment, the only sound was their breathing and the distant pounding against the shield.

Kael looked at both of them, voice low and rough. “I meant what I said earlier. You’re my pack now. Both of you.”

Damien met his gaze, then Serena’s. “And you are mine.”

Serena’s hands lingered on Kael’s skin. The air between the three of them grew thick with something new — not just survival, but need, comfort, and the first sparks of desire.

But outside the shield, the corrupted Professor Elara’s voice echoed through the archives:

“You can’t hide forever, my children… The virus is only the beginning.”

As the shield holds, Serena’s eyes suddenly glow with prophetic vision. She sees flashes of the ancient nexus deeper underground… and the forbidden ritual that will require all three of them to become one — body, blood, and soul.

Kael’s deep gashes had closed thanks to her healing, but the emotional wounds inside her were bleeding worse than ever.“I can hear her,” she whispered. “Elara. She’s calling me.”Damien crouched beside her, cool fingers brushing a strand of dark hair from her sweat-streaked face. “You don’t have to face her.”“I do,” Serena said, voice cracking. “She raised me. She was my mother when I had none. If there’s even a sliver of her left… I have to try.”Kael growled low, still naked and streaked with blood. “Then we face her together. The underground archives smelled of old parchment, dust, and faint ozone from Serena’s protective wards. Dim emergency bulbs cast a sickly yellow glow over rows of forbidden tomes, ancient relics, and sealed vaults that no regular student had ever seen. They had barely sealed the heavy iron door behind them when the pounding from above intensified. The infected quarterback and his horde were tearing the library apart floor by floor.Kael paced like a caged animal, still naked, his body a map of rapidly healing wounds. “I can hear them,” he muttered. “My pack. Or what’s left. They’re calling for me through the broken bond.”Damien leaned against a stone pillar, arms crossed, crimson eyes distant. “Focus. Grief is a luxury we can’t afford right now.”“Easy for you to say, leech,” Kael snapped, rounding on him. “You lost one man. I lost my entire fucking fraternity. My little brothers. My blood.”Serena stepped between them, placing a gentle hand on Kael’s chest. Warmth flowed from her p

They ran like the damned.Kael’s bare feet pounded the wet pavement, claws still partially extended for grip. Damien moved in a blur of shadow beside him, carrying Serena in his arms when her magic faltered. The witch’s breathing was ragged — she had burned through too much power in the dorms.Hundreds of infected surged behind them, a tidal wave of former students, faculty, and staff. Their howls and snarls created a nightmarish symphony that drowned out the dying storm.“The library doors!” Serena gasped, pointing ahead. The grand central library rose like a fortress — gothic stone, massive oak doors reinforced with iron, and ancient protective wards etched into the frame by generations of witches before her.Kael slammed into the doors first, shoulder-first. Wood cracked but held. Damien set Serena down and helped shove while she traced glowing violet runes over the locks. The moment the doors sealed, the horde crashed against them like a battering ram. The freshman dorms — Hawthorne Hall — loomed like a tomb under the blood-red moonlight breaking through the storm clouds. Screams poured from every window. Glass shattered. Bodies slammed against doors from the inside.Kael led the charge, still shirtless, his wounds from earlier already knitting closed thanks to werewolf healing. “My little cousin is in there,” he growled, voice raw. “Or… what’s left of him.”Damien moved silently at his side, crimson eyes scanning the shadows. “Sentiment will get us killed.”Serena’s violet magic crackled around her fingers. “Let him feel it. We all lost people tonight.”They kicked in the main double doors. The lobby was hell.Infected freshmen — some still in hoodies and pajama pants — swarmed like ants. The quad had become a slaughterhouse.Kael’s massive wolf form — silver-black fur matted with rain and blood — tore through the infected like a living storm. His jaws crushed a former teammate’s skull with a sickening crunch. The taste of blood filled his mouth, but it brought no satisfaction. Only rage and grief.“Tyler!” he roared through the pack link, his voice a guttural snarl that echoed across the storm. His beta, Tyler, stumbled out of the Delta Howl fraternity house dragging a half-turned pledge behind him. The boy — barely eighteen — was screaming, claws already sprouting from his fingers.“Big bro… it hurts… make it stop…” the pledge whimpered, eyes flickering between human and monstrous red.Tyler’s own face was streaked with tears and blood. “Kael, I can’t hold him—”The pledge lunged, sinking teeth into Tyler’s arm. Tyler howled in agony as the virus took him faster than any silver bullet ever could. Within seconds, his loyal beta — the wolf who had run with Kael under e
