CHAPTER 13 – Mexico

Aurora looked at the clouds through the windows of the jet, as they were several feet high in the sky.

She was mesmerized. She had never flown before, and this dream had easily come true for her, just as Bianca had earlier said; she was lucky indeed.

“Never been in the sky before, I guess,” Brynn asked, focusing on the iPad with him.

His seat was opposite Aurora’s on the same side, while Luke’s seat was opposite Aurora’s on the other side.

“No.” She replied.

‘As a matter of fact, I never thought I would ever fly.’ She thought to herself.

“Welcome to my world,” Brynn said, still looking at the iPad, “And prepare yourself for more of these to come.”

Aurora beamed like a satisfied child.

The journey was less than four hours, and the experience wasn’t boring, but blissful for Aurora.

She talked and laughed with Brynn, she had hostesses serve her like a princess, smiling at her as though they were trying to please her, not to get on the master’s bad side.

For a while, she had forgotten about her life back in Northern California; she had seen faces that looked embittered, angry, rude, and all sorts of uncomfortable looks, nothing like what she was seeing now.

If this were just the beginning for her, as Brynn said, then she would enjoy it to the fullest; it would probably be the best month of her life, and she looked forward to it.

“Permit me to ask where we are going,” Aurora said as the pilot announced that they would be landing soon.

She was so overwhelmed by the royal treatment she was receiving that she had forgotten to ask a while ago.

“I have meetings with certain companies’ directors to offer investments.” He said, looking at Aurora, “I hear their pitch and take a decision whether or not to go in with an investment.”

“Wow!” She said,

“You are not coming with me,” Brynn said, “I already have men stationed here to give you a tour around Mexico.”

“We’re in Mexico?” Aurora’s eyes lit up.

“Yes, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.” Brynn said, “You would go on a tour and be brought back in time for our departure.”

Aurora grinned hard, holding her happiness back.

They both came down from the jet, and just as Brynn had said, men were wearing black suits, looking like security guards for high-profile individuals, like the ones she saw in movies. They stood unmoved, unless they were given instructions to follow.

She was living the dream.

They were both escorted to two parked Rolls-Royce Cullinans. One was arctic white, while the other was deep navy blue, like a midnight sapphire.

Aurora’s eyes sparkled; she had never imagined seeing such a luxurious car up close, not to mention riding in one.

“You would go in this,” He pointed to the white car, “tour around, and don’t hold back. I want you to feel my world for the first time, and we will talk about it when we next meet.” He looked at her.

“I don’t know what to say,” Aurora said.

“You don’t have to say anything; this is me making up for lost time.” He said, “Now off you go.” He smiled a little.

“Thank you so much, Father.” She said,

Her body itched to hug him, but words of thanks were all she could offer, and they both were led into their different cars.

A minute after they had driven, Brynn glanced at Luke, who seemed to have a lot on his mind.

“Speak,” Brynn said,

Luke sighed, “Master, I’m not one to ever question your decision. I see how you seem to cherish Lady Aurora, and I must admit that it’s nothing but pure fatherly love.”

“But?” Brynn asked, looking at his phone.

“Why, master?” Luke asked, head lowered a bit. “You favour the lady so much, when she isn’t even your biological child.”

A moment of silence filled the interior of the car,

“Is it because of the guilt you still feel for the late lady?” Luke asked.

Brynn sighed. He removed his glasses and stared out the lifted window of the car.

“You won’t be entirely wrong if you think it’s because of my guilt, Luke.” He said. “I feel I have been given a second chance, and I will do everything I can to make atonement for my wrongs in the past. I see my daughter in her, and I will do everything that I unfortunately couldn’t do for my late daughter.”

He looked back at his phone and put on his glasses.

“And the reason you took her out of the house today?” Luke asked.

“A huge announcement like the one I made this morning is certainly going to cause a ruckus.” Brynn answered, “I took her out of the house to avert questions from her mother. I needed to give the mother time to take the news in before asking Aurora any questions. It would be too early for Aurora to answer.”

“Understood, master,” Luke said, bowing his head slightly.

Just when the car entered the main road, Brynn’s phone beeped. He looked at his phone with furrowed brows.

Moira quickly went in and checked on her daughter. She saw that she was asleep, then noticed the empty glass of milk on the table, and felt relieved.Guests had started to arrive at the mansion, with the grand arena gradually filling up with people. It was already past 4 pm, and the council of elders had taken their seats. The hall was gigantic and tall, with a row of seats in the front of the arena, strictly reserved for the council of elders. There were specifically designed chairs for alphas and their betas, in another row, next to the council of elders, and then the other seats were for wolves of lower status. The Trial arena was a little bit lower down; those who sat looked down at the arena floor.Luke stood by the hall’s entrance to receive guests, while Brynn discussed with people he had not seen for a long time because of uncontrolled circumstances.“Master Graham,” Lucius bowed, “You are most welcome.”“Same as always, Luke, kudos to your skincare routine,” Graham said in sa

“Don’t tell me you haven’t missed this.” He grinned, hips moving in a slow tease under the fabric.Bianca smiled in amusement, “I think I miss you more.” She said. The following day, Moira stood by Brynn’s side in the study room, where she had been summoned.“It must be given within 3 to 3:30 pm tomorrow, no more than that. We can’t risk her stumbling into the trial.” Brynn said, handing a wrapped object to Moira,“We need her late enough to last the night, and early enough to wake up in time for her departure. No mistakes.”“Yes, master,” Moira said, her eyes furrowed in curiosity.“I would’ve done it myself, but she trusts you more.” He said, “You don’t have to worry, it would be over before she even begins to suspect.”It was now past 3 pm, and Moira had started to panic a bit. She had poured the whole contents of the bottle that Brynn had given her into Aurora’s glass of milk, only for Aurora to tell her that she wasn’t going to take milk until early in the morning. She had served

“You would do that?” She asked with her eyes wide open.“Yes,”Aurora kept quiet for a few seconds,“I think I’m good,” She said, “I want to do this all by myself.”“Really?” Brynn asked, amazed by her refusal of help“Yeah,” She said, “But thank you so much for offering to help.”“You’re welcome.”There was silence as Aurora went back to reading,Brynn broke the silence, “Do you not think that the young master has suffered enough?”Aurora grinned nervously, looking at Brynn, “He told you.” She said.“He was obviously vexed today,” Brynn said, “so I was hoping for mercy from my princess.”Aurora chuckled sweetly,“I had actually thought about it, Mr. Luke said I should tune it down a bit.”“Luke?” His brows lifted.“Yes,” She answered, “But now that you’ve asked, I will stop it entirely.“Thank you.” He smiled faintly.“I was just pissed about how he treated me,” She said with a guilty expression, “but I’m sorry.”“It’s okay, as long as you have decided to show my son mercy. He stood in front of the shut door for a while and stared at every worker his eyes could see, like he was looking for the perfect candidate to pour his anger on.Just then, his eyes fell on Aurora, who was walking with Luke. They were heading towards Theodore, both of them laughing like they were having a nice time.“Greetings, young master.” Luke greeted Theodore on seeing him as they halted.Theodore didn’t respond, but his eyes were fixed on Aurora the whole time. His eyes were filled with fury, cold and focused.Aurora suspected something strong in his temper, and she was careful not to step on his toes; this was definitely not the time to annoy him like during Brynn’s absence.Even if Brynn protected her, this would be a disastrous time if she spiked him, because, like her mother had said, blood is thicker than water. She bowed her head.‘You can’t call him a chicken now, Aurora, else you would be the one in soup.’ She thought to herself.Theodore sneered and walked away.Aurora

“Apart from the master and my mum, I don’t talk with any other person in this house, and sometimes it’s boring.” She said. “I would so much appreciate it if you were free with me. What I need right now is a friend, or an uncle that I can talk to and share things with,” She dropped her head.“You acting all formal, isn’t cool with me.”“But the master…”“Isn’t here right now,” She said, “You can go back to being an order executing machine with the master around, but with me, be an uncle, or a friend. I would sincerely prefer both.”Luke’s brows furrowed. Since he had entered this mansion, no one had asked for his friendship until now. It made him feel wanted, aside from following the master’s orders. He loved his master, but he never dared to stray from his role as a Beta.“And besides,” She looked at Luke, “You were instructed to attend to my needs and do whatever I say. So I command you to be free with me.” She pointed a finger at him.Luke’s brows furrowed in confusion. He held back

“Oh, wait!” He said, “How about you start by demonstrating to me what you can actually do?”He immediately started to take all the glasses,“What are you doing?” Aurora asked, watching him.“Giving you a chance to show me what you are capable of.” He said, putting all the glasses at the top of the big cabinet, high and far away from Aurora’s reach.“You can’t do that,” She retorted, “I need to get milk.”“Oh, right,” He said, went to the refrigerator, took out all the gallons of milk and placed them high above, with the glasses.“There.” He said, dusting both hands together and folding his arms, “Your turn.”Aurora stepped back in defeat.‘This is not fair, I needed milk.’ She thought to herself.“I don’t need to get the milk to prove anything to you,” She said, “As a matter of fact, I never needed the milk anyway.”“Fine then, goodnight.” He said and turned to leave.“You’re just going to let the glasses and milk stay there?” She asked with her brows lifted.“Don’t worry about them,
