Brynn’s household was on hold at dawn. He had ordered Luke to assemble every member and worker of the family in the mansion’s hall.
Aurora didn’t know what was going on; she was with her mum in her room earlier, getting her belongings ready to leave the mansion, when a servant had asked that she and her mother join the rest in the mansion’s hall, “The master’s command,” they had been told.
With no one left behind, the hall was packed full with workers, standing still, and familiar faces Aurora recognized as Brynn’s family: Theodore and Bianca, seated around a circular table.
Brynn came in minutes later, accompanied by Luke.
Both men looked stern, as though they were competing for who did it the most.
“I am going to make this quick,” Brynn said, standing in front of the main chair of the table, looking at the workers in front of him.
“Aurora dear,” He called, “Come to me.”
Aurora, not sure of what was happening, slowly walked to Brynn.
“Henceforth.” His voice echoed in the hall, reaching every corner, sending cold shivers down the workers’ spines. “Aurora here, identifies as part of this family.”
Moira slightly shook as her eyes widened. Bianca’s face remained unhinged, while anger began to brew within her.
Aurora looked at Brynn with uncertainty. She wasn’t sure if what Brynn did was the best move, but she trusted his lead anyway, after all, he is the master of the house.
Theodore scoffed in disbelief.
“She must be addressed as ‘Lady’,” He continued, “And anyone, I repeat anyone, who threatens her,” He looked at Theodore, “And her mother,” He looked at Bianca, “Will answer to me.”
‘Lady Aurora?’ she thought to herself.
It felt weird to her hearing, but since she had been given it, she might as well learn to grow into it, because the name had come to stay.
No one dared to make a noise,
“Aurora, my dear,” He turned to Aurora, “Get yourself ready, we’re both heading out in thirty minutes.”
He turned to Luke, “Thirty minutes, prepare to fly.”
“Now disperse.” He ordered, and only after he had walked away with Luke following him did everyone start to leave and return to their duties.
Brynn was in his room, getting ready to head out.
“What was the meaning of that?” Bianca’s voice came out angry, but she dared not raise her voice.
Brynn didn’t answer, his back turning against her.
“The last time you did something like that was for our children,” She said, and Brynn stiffened, “And now you do it for Aurora? Haven’t you taken this atonement a bit too far?”
Brynn continued what he was doing.
“She is long gone, Brynn. Get over it and stop losing yourself to a pathetic human.” She sounded.
“Don’t you ever dare to utter such dehumanizing words in regards to Aurora.” He swiftly turned to look at Bianca, lifting his finger in warning, his eyes filled with anger and danger.
Bianca was shocked; she froze. She had never seen him in such a state before. She felt stripped of her title as the master’s wife.
“A disrespect to my daughter,” He said, “Is a disrespect to me.” He grabbed his phone and stormed out of the room.
“But she isn’t our daughter.” Bianca silently said as she regained her sense of self.
Aurora was already dressed before the thirty-minute expiration. She gently walked towards the mansion’s entrance, as she checked for any details that looked out of order in the gown she wore.
Workers bowed their heads in greetings to the new lady, and she greeted them back, trying to get used to her new title.
Just then, she could see Bianca coming towards her from the other wing of the mansion.
“Greetings, mother.” Aurora greeted, bowing her head slightly.
Bianca looked at her with a disdainful look, her hand itched to put it across Aurora’s face, but she knew better than to cross her husband.
“So the master called you daughter,” Bianca said coldly, “And you automatically think that that makes me your mother?”
Aurora swallowed in tension as she didn’t meet Bianca’s eyes.
“Do I look like your pathetic and filthy mother?” Bianca asked, her eyes filled with anger towards Aurora, a human who came into her home in less than three days and now has taken charge of her home.
Aurora clenched her fist. If it were to be where she came from, she would have given this woman a taste of her fighting lessons for calling her mother names.
She didn’t answer, but her head remained bowed.
“Answer me!” Bianca shouted, “Do I look like your pathetic and filthy mother?”
“N…no, madam,” Aurora said.
‘Of course, never in a thousand years would you look like my mother, and she isn’t pathetic and filthy.’ She thought to herself.
Her thoughts were the only place she could defend her mother, as long as this mansion was concerned.
“Hold that thought for when next you decide to open up the gutters, you call a mouth to call me mother,” Bianca said as she walked past her.
After taking a few steps forward, she stopped and turned her head to her side, where Aurora was. “How lucky you are that the master favours you,” She said, “You are walking on fragile land, child, and I would advise you to watch your steps.”
She continued her steps, “Filthy human.” She blurted out.
Aurora stood straight, wondering where she had gone wrong.
Her only offense was visiting her mother.
“Lady Aurora.” Luke called from behind her and bowed his head, “The jet is ready.”
Moira quickly went in and checked on her daughter. She saw that she was asleep, then noticed the empty glass of milk on the table, and felt relieved.Guests had started to arrive at the mansion, with the grand arena gradually filling up with people. It was already past 4 pm, and the council of elders had taken their seats. The hall was gigantic and tall, with a row of seats in the front of the arena, strictly reserved for the council of elders. There were specifically designed chairs for alphas and their betas, in another row, next to the council of elders, and then the other seats were for wolves of lower status. The Trial arena was a little bit lower down; those who sat looked down at the arena floor.Luke stood by the hall’s entrance to receive guests, while Brynn discussed with people he had not seen for a long time because of uncontrolled circumstances.“Master Graham,” Lucius bowed, “You are most welcome.”“Same as always, Luke, kudos to your skincare routine,” Graham said in sa
“Don’t tell me you haven’t missed this.” He grinned, hips moving in a slow tease under the fabric.Bianca smiled in amusement, “I think I miss you more.” She said. The following day, Moira stood by Brynn’s side in the study room, where she had been summoned.“It must be given within 3 to 3:30 pm tomorrow, no more than that. We can’t risk her stumbling into the trial.” Brynn said, handing a wrapped object to Moira,“We need her late enough to last the night, and early enough to wake up in time for her departure. No mistakes.”“Yes, master,” Moira said, her eyes furrowed in curiosity.“I would’ve done it myself, but she trusts you more.” He said, “You don’t have to worry, it would be over before she even begins to suspect.”It was now past 3 pm, and Moira had started to panic a bit. She had poured the whole contents of the bottle that Brynn had given her into Aurora’s glass of milk, only for Aurora to tell her that she wasn’t going to take milk until early in the morning. She had served
“You would do that?” She asked with her eyes wide open.“Yes,”Aurora kept quiet for a few seconds,“I think I’m good,” She said, “I want to do this all by myself.”“Really?” Brynn asked, amazed by her refusal of help“Yeah,” She said, “But thank you so much for offering to help.”“You’re welcome.”There was silence as Aurora went back to reading,Brynn broke the silence, “Do you not think that the young master has suffered enough?”Aurora grinned nervously, looking at Brynn, “He told you.” She said.“He was obviously vexed today,” Brynn said, “so I was hoping for mercy from my princess.”Aurora chuckled sweetly,“I had actually thought about it, Mr. Luke said I should tune it down a bit.”“Luke?” His brows lifted.“Yes,” She answered, “But now that you’ve asked, I will stop it entirely.“Thank you.” He smiled faintly.“I was just pissed about how he treated me,” She said with a guilty expression, “but I’m sorry.”“It’s okay, as long as you have decided to show my son mercy. My prince
He stood in front of the shut door for a while and stared at every worker his eyes could see, like he was looking for the perfect candidate to pour his anger on.Just then, his eyes fell on Aurora, who was walking with Luke. They were heading towards Theodore, both of them laughing like they were having a nice time.“Greetings, young master.” Luke greeted Theodore on seeing him as they halted.Theodore didn’t respond, but his eyes were fixed on Aurora the whole time. His eyes were filled with fury, cold and focused.Aurora suspected something strong in his temper, and she was careful not to step on his toes; this was definitely not the time to annoy him like during Brynn’s absence.Even if Brynn protected her, this would be a disastrous time if she spiked him, because, like her mother had said, blood is thicker than water. She bowed her head.‘You can’t call him a chicken now, Aurora, else you would be the one in soup.’ She thought to herself.Theodore sneered and walked away.Aurora
“Apart from the master and my mum, I don’t talk with any other person in this house, and sometimes it’s boring.” She said. “I would so much appreciate it if you were free with me. What I need right now is a friend, or an uncle that I can talk to and share things with,” She dropped her head.“You acting all formal, isn’t cool with me.”“But the master…”“Isn’t here right now,” She said, “You can go back to being an order executing machine with the master around, but with me, be an uncle, or a friend. I would sincerely prefer both.”Luke’s brows furrowed. Since he had entered this mansion, no one had asked for his friendship until now. It made him feel wanted, aside from following the master’s orders. He loved his master, but he never dared to stray from his role as a Beta.“And besides,” She looked at Luke, “You were instructed to attend to my needs and do whatever I say. So I command you to be free with me.” She pointed a finger at him.Luke’s brows furrowed in confusion. He held back
“Oh, wait!” He said, “How about you start by demonstrating to me what you can actually do?”He immediately started to take all the glasses,“What are you doing?” Aurora asked, watching him.“Giving you a chance to show me what you are capable of.” He said, putting all the glasses at the top of the big cabinet, high and far away from Aurora’s reach.“You can’t do that,” She retorted, “I need to get milk.”“Oh, right,” He said, went to the refrigerator, took out all the gallons of milk and placed them high above, with the glasses.“There.” He said, dusting both hands together and folding his arms, “Your turn.”Aurora stepped back in defeat.‘This is not fair, I needed milk.’ She thought to herself.“I don’t need to get the milk to prove anything to you,” She said, “As a matter of fact, I never needed the milk anyway.”“Fine then, goodnight.” He said and turned to leave.“You’re just going to let the glasses and milk stay there?” She asked with her brows lifted.“Don’t worry about them,
