Chapter 4

"Is this novel about you and Sean?" David closed the document as he placed it on the table. I rolled my eyes, then took a cup of coffee in front of us. "Come on, Angel. You can't hide it from me and Suki."

I glared at him in annoyance. Since college, his curiosity has always bothered me. David is actually Sean's best friend, but he doesn't bully me like Sean does. Maybe that's the reason David and Suki got closer. They even plan to get married in a few weeks.

"The most important thing is I've submitted my resume. You don't need to know about anything else."

David rubbed his face before saying, "I think Suki's guess was right."

"About what?"

"You and Sean."

Hearing David mention Sean's name reminded me that he was waiting for me right now. Sean and I used to make out when Harvey was at work. One morning after we had sex, I took out my laptop and wrote a story about our affair. Even though I've changed everything David still knows.

"Suki said that Sean picked you up at her party. Do you guys still like each other? Shouldn't it be over after so many years have passed?"

"I have to go now. Bye, David."

Ignoring David's questions, I took the documents I had previously given to David. I wasn't afraid that he would ask more about his suspicions about my relationship with Sean. I'm just too lazy to discuss something that should be my privacy.

"You're not even arguing, Angel. How long have you and Sean been together?"

"Your question has crossed the line. You have to be professional." I said firmly but at the same time I looked pathetic. Luckily, someone knocked on David's door.

Secretary David appeared with someone behind him.

"Babe, what are you doing here?" Harvey walked right behind David's secretary. I feel like passing out. "Is David making it difficult for you?"

I hid the documents behind my body. If David could guess then Harvey would know too. Harvey will find out that I was having an affair with his brother.

"Angel's latest novel is fantastic." David teases me. "I can't believe my best friend has a wild side. Haven't you read it, Harvey?"

"Is that true?" Harvey asked curiously. "Angel forbade me to see his novel before it is published. There is nothing I can do but respect my wife's decision."

Harvey and all his sweet words really touched me. If he finds out I'm having an affair, he will hate me for the rest of his life. "Thank you."

"After I have a meeting with David, do you want to have lunch with me?"

"Sure, babe."

I hurriedly went to the toilet to clear my mind. Without thinking twice I tore my documents. When I threw the documents in the trash, someone called me.

"Where are you?" The familiar raspy voice sounded, Sean. I almost forgot that he brought me here, and he's still waiting for me at the cafe in front of David's office.

I was silent while looking at my reflection in the mirror. The kiss marks on my neck were visible when I opened a button. After the night Sean and I had sex for the first time, I promised I would never do it again. But now I let Sean leave a kiss mark.

Then what will happen next? Will my marriage be affected because of my relationship with Sean?

"Where are you?" Sean asked again, sounding angry that I ignored him. "Why didn't you say anything?"

"I'm on my way home."

"I saw Harvey coming. Is that why you lied?"

Instead of being afraid to lie, I felt guilty. There is a big hole in my heart that makes it hard for me to breathe.

"We'd better end this before things get too complicated." I said carefully.

Sean suddenly hung up.

What is this?

I was afraid Sean would get hurt, but his reaction didn't seem to care. Maybe he immediately looked for another woman to sleep with. I was the only one who was hurt because of this forbidden feeling.

Suddenly the toilet door slammed. Sean here. He walked up to me and grabbed my wrist.

"What? We're over, Sean!" I shouted, then pushed his chest. I tried hard not to cry, but it was hard. My shoulders keep shaking with pain.

"Shut up, Angel! Why are you like this?" Sean screamed right in my face. In his anger there is always sadness. The sadness that I always find every time we have sex, and it confuses me.

"Why do we have an affair? For what?"

My question made Sean freeze. He doesn't know the reason for the dirty game we have been playing for months.

"That's enough for us. We both love it."

I laughed bitterly. See, how could someone be this cowardly? "I'm out of this game. Enjoy yourself."

"Never. You are mine. Only mine."

"You are crazy!"

Sean pulled me to the toilet room. Our bodies are very close and he touches my neck. "Yes, I'm crazy about you."

"Stop it." I pushed Sean when he was about to kiss me. Sean's touch is my biggest weakness. It is enough that I have been blinded by lust.

Sean turned my body until my chest met the wall of the toilet. He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind so I wouldn't fight back. "Fulfill my wish first, then I agree."

"What do you want?"

"Please divorce Harvey. If I can't have you, then it's the same with him." Sean said easily.

"Are you kidding?!" I tried to let go, but he gripped me tighter. "Marriage is something serious! This is not a game like ours."

"I've known you for six years, Angel! Six damn years! I know you better than Harvey!" Sean screamed as his hand punched the wall next to me. "And I know marriage is not a game. You promised to love your husband forever, but the fact is you betrayed your God. You love me!"

Sean's words slapped me. It was fortunate that I was able to control myself, so I was able to laugh derisively. "You don't know me at all, Sean. All you did during those six years was bullying me. Don't you dare hope that hate can turn into love just because of sex."

Remembered 6 years ago Sean liked to bother me. He used to call me a whore whenever we met. My campus lockers are always filled with lots of terrifying animals. The climax was when I passed out, and the campus called Sean's parents over. Luckily Harvey replaced Anne and Roby to apologize to me. So that was the beginning we got to know each other and decided to get married.

Sean's kiss brought me to reality. "That night you said you loved me. I still remember it clearly." Sean said which made me even more clueless. "Let's get married. We can start a new life."

It felt like a miracle that I could finally break free. When I tried to leave, Sean tried to kiss me again. My hand reflexively slapped him.

"What did you say? I'm sorry but you don't even have a job, Sean! Why would I give up on Harvey for a loser like you?"

Sean glared at me. I'm sure my words hurt him, because he soon left me. Our affair is officially over, but why does my heart hurt? My legs were shaking, and it was hard to hold my body any longer. I fell, then allowed myself to cry.
