ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR

Diane and Nicholas stayed in bed, their arms around each other with a cover over them. They were awake but silent. Only the sounds of their breathing could be heard. Diane moved her hands slowly and softly around Nicholas' chest, feeling his chest heave up and down as he breathed. Then, she whispered, "Nick?"

"Yeah?" he answered

"Can I ask a question?" she asked.

"Sure babe," he replied.

"What would you do if I said I was pregnant?" she asked, an hesitating note in her voice.

At the question, Nicholas abruptly sat up, careful enough to not let go of Diane. He reached out to the lamp beside him and switched it on. He glanced down at Diane's anxious face. "Are you pregnant?" he asked. His heart was thumping loudly with fear and excitement.

"No, no," she hurriedly answered. "I'm not pregnant. But what would you do?"

"I think I would be happy about it," He said softly.

"Oh." Diane grew silent for a while. She was thinking about the best way to drop the news. Then, she blurted out, "M
