Jessica’s POV
I feel like my chest is going to explode with frustration. Just a little more, and I might end up yelling at this arrogant man. Just because you're my boss doesn't mean you can treat me like this. Excuse me, you are not my boss! I muttered to myself. Ugh, this infuriating man. If Sir George hadn’t asked me, I would have never agreed to be your temporary secretary. Deep breaths, Jessica. You can do this. It’s just three days, and after that, I won’t have to see this man's face again. But wait, why did he even agree to have me as his temporary secretary if he doesn’t trust me at all? I was already briefed about his attitude, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad. I quietly stared out the window as we traveled. I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep. "Wake up! Get the bags!" I was startled awake by a loud voice and the sound of a car door slamming shut. “Oh, crap! I’m dead meat again with this guy who has worse mood swings than a woman on her period. Seriously.” I hurriedly grabbed our luggage and rushed to catch up with my boss. After checking in, we headed straight to the room where we’d be staying for three days. It was a large suite with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. I placed his luggage inside his room while he immediately went to the office table, opened his laptop, and started working. I sat at the other table and opened my iPad to organize everything he would need for tomorrow. I had already prepared everything last night. I just needed to check if anything needed to be added or if I had missed anything important. I didn't realize that nearly two hours had passed. If my stomach hadn’t growled, I wouldn’t have stopped. I glanced at my boss. He was still completely focused on his work, as if he never got tired. I didn’t want to disturb him, but my stomach was starving. “Sir, I’ll head downstairs to eat. Would you like anything?” He lowered his glasses and looked at me. “I’m sorry, I lost track of time. Here, buy anything you want. I just need to finish this.” He handed me his black card. I was shocked by how calmly he said it. I honestly expected him to snap at me again. I was so stunned that I just stood there, not moving. “Here, take this!” he repeated, his eyebrows now furrowed. I quickly grabbed the card. “How about you, sir? What will you eat?” I asked. “No need. I’ll just order over the phone.” “I can order for you, sir.” “I said I can manage! Go!” he snapped. “Okay, sir. I’m going now.” Ugh, I was just trying to be nice and get him food, yet he’s the one getting angry? Fine, starve if you want! I turned away, muttering under my breath. “I can hear you!” “Huh?!” I turned back, startled, and quickly covered my mouth. “I’m really going now!” I said before running off. I was out of breath by the time I reached the elevator. “Oh no, why did I say that out loud?” I groaned, smacking my lips. “I’m so dead when I get back. Whatever, I just need to feed my poor, growling stomach.” I rubbed my belly as I entered the hotel’s restaurant. While eating, I overheard two men at the table behind me. Even though they were speaking quietly, I clearly heard them mention Sir Nick’s name. “Is everything ready for tomorrow? Let’s see if Nick can still fight back. He’s too full of himself and never listens. We need to teach him a lesson.” “Exactly. Let’s see if he can still refuse after what we’re going to do.” I frowned. What are they planning for tomorrow? “Hmm, I should warn Sir Nick. But ugh, he’s always so grumpy. It’s hard to deal with him. How should I tell him? Oh well, I’ll figure it out later.” After finishing my meal, I went straight back to our hotel room. When I entered, Sir Nick was no longer at his desk. I also didn’t see any food around. I just shrugged and went to my room. My body was itching, I needed a shower. After showering, I peeked into the living room to check if Sir Nick needed anything. He was still not at his desk. I hesitated to knock on his door, afraid he might yell at me again. Ugh, whatever. I’ll just do it. I practiced my knocking several times, debating whether it should be soft or firm. Just when I was about to knock, the door suddenly swung open, and my hand landed directly on his chest. Out of shock and panic, I jumped back and shoved him. “Waaah!” I screamed. Thankfully, he managed to grab onto the doorframe. “What is wrong with you!?” he snapped in irritation. “S-Sorry, sir! I just wanted to ask if you needed anything before I go to sleep.” I explained hurriedly. “No. Go to bed. But make sure to wake up early!” “Okay, sir. Goodnight.” I was about to head back to my room when I suddenly remembered something. “Ah, sir!” “What now!?” he asked loudly, making me jump. “I-I just wanted to ask… Have you eaten yet?” “I’ll eat later.” He didn’t even look at me and went straight back to his work. “Okay, sir. I’m really going to sleep now. Goodnight.” He completely ignored me. I rolled my eyes and mimicked him, “I’ll eat later… na na na na na.” “Ugh, he’s so grumpy! Acting like he’s all that. But… wait, he is handsome. And fresh-looking. And his chest was… firm.” “Wait, erase! Erase! That’s not allowed. I can’t be looking at my boss like that. No falling in love, Jessica. No way!.” I clutched my chest, talking to myself like a crazy person. Despite being annoyed, I still ordered food for Sir Nick. He was probably too busy to remember eating. “Whatever, it’s his money anyway. If he doesn’t eat it, that’s his problem.” I muttered. Maybe it was the exhaustion from the trip, but as soon as I lay down, I fell asleep immediately.Nick’s POV “The view is beautiful…” I turned around when I heard Audrey’s voice behind me. She was awake. She was staring at the sun slowly rising above the mountains. The golden rays touched her face, making her glow.“Yes, it really is,” I replied softly, though my eyes weren’t on the sunrise, but on her.She tilted her head back slightly, letting the warmth of the sun embrace her. She smiled, eyes closed, as if savoring every second.Lovely, I thought. When she opened her eyes, I quickly looked away and pretended to be busy admiring the scenery in front of us. But I could feel her gaze on me. I acted like I didn’t notice and just kept my eyes on the mountains. We stayed quiet, both caught in the beauty of the moment, until the air began to grow warmer.“We need to go,” I finally said. She nodded and followed me back to the car. When she got in, I noticed her frown as she realized her seat was reclined. She looked at me, silently asking why, but I avoided her eyes.I started the en
Nick’s POVI can’t explain the joy and excitement running through me about this trip with Audrey. I could barely sleep, thinking about what might happen.Last Monday, Mr. San Fernando called and asked me to design a resort. He sent me photos of the land where it would be built and told me he wanted me to handle the project myself. It’s a billion-dollar project, an enormous opportunity. After five years away from the spotlight, this could be my comeback. He gave me a list of everything he wanted for the resort. For three days straight, I did nothing but research and plan, trying to form a clear direction. Then he called again.“Hello, Mr. Ford. Good morning.” “Good morning, Mr. San Fernando,” I greeted politely. “I was thinking of sending you there with Audrey.”The moment he mentioned her name, something flickered in me. My chest tightened, but in a good way.“Do a site analysis and feasibility study,” he continued. “Bring your materials. It would be better if you start there, feel
Audrey’s POVI received a text from Nick last night about the trip. He even tried calling, but I didn’t answer. I don’t know why… maybe because I was afraid to hear his voice. Instead, I just replied to his message, confirming I’d go.I’ve been nervously waiting here in the condo lobby for a while. We’re leaving early, three in the morning, and I’m still half-asleep. He’s picking me up. I had just stepped out of the elevator when my phone rang. It was Sage. He’s still abroad, and I don’t even know when he’ll be back. Since I’m usually just at the gallery, I didn’t bring Elena with me even though she insisted. I told her I already informed Sage, so she dropped the topic. Even about this trip with Nick.
Audrey’s POVIt’s been a few days since I saw Nick at the pizza parlor.I don’t even know why I acted that way that day. I mean, I’ve always been confident, but somehow, around Nick, I lost that composure. I embarrassed myself more than once, and even now, just thinking about it makes my cheeks burn all over again.“Ma’am, here’s the inventory for the new paintings that just arrived.” My thoughts were interrupted when one of the staff entered my office.“Where’s Scarlett?” I asked.“She’s still there, ma’am. She’s checking the new paintings,” the staff replied.“Okay. Just leave it there.” She placed the folder on the table and left. I was about to reach for it when my phone rang. A smile instantly appeared on my face when I saw the name flashing on the screen.“Papa! How are you?”“Doing great, Audrey, still handsome as ever,” he joked, laughing afterward.I couldn’t help but chuckle. I’m really thankful that I became close to Sage’s father. At first, he looked intimidating, but ev
Nick’s POVI can’t help but smile whenever I remember what happened earlier between me and Audrey. She’s so cute, especially when she blushes.“My Jessica…” I whispered to myself.I was so happy seeing her okay. Just last night, she looked weak and in pain, it felt like someone stabbed my heart. It hurt so much, because all I could do was watch her from afar… and what hurt even more was knowing that another man was there for her. I couldn’t even go near her, hold her, or comfort her.“Uncle Nick, can I ask you something?” Aiah suddenly spoke, while I was watching her and Dylan play with their Lego set.“Sure,” I replied with a smile.“Uhm… what’s your type of girl? Is it like Dylan’s mom?”I was caught off guard, and so was Dylan, judging by his surprised expression.“Hmm…” I pretended to think deeply, but instead of dragging it out, I answered directly, “My type of girl is someone who can tame me.”“Tame you? Hmmm…” Aiah’s brows furrowed as she tried to analyze my words, clearly lo
Scarlett’s POV“Gosh… that was insane. What the hell, Scarlett,” I muttered under my breath.I snapped back to the present. Did I really go that wild last night? Was I really the one who took charge? My eyes widened in disbelief. Was I really that desperate?I still remember how I moved with George, how lost I was in the moment. I was bold, unrestrained… completely taken over by the heat of it all. What’s wrong with me?“Scarlett, you’re shameless!” I shouted, covering my mouth right after. “Oh my gosh, that was so embarrassing. What must George
