Nick’s POV

I noticed some commotion near the buffet area, and I saw that Jessica seemed to be involved. I walked toward them, and my ears burned when I heard what a woman was saying. I was about to approach in anger, but then I stopped and smiled.

Jessica didn’t need me. She could defend herself. That only, made me admire her more. I watched as she walked out like a model, but the moment she neared the door, she suddenly picked up her pace as if she were running away from a dog. I smiled even more.

"She is so cute," I whispered to myself.

I was about to follow her when someone suddenly blocked my path.

"Nick! You look dashing tonight. I wasn’t able to congratulate you earlier.. It was a fabulous presentation," Andrea said enthusiastically.

"Thank you! Please excuse me," I said hurriedly, trying to leave.

"Nick! Are you avoiding me?" she asked, her voice trembling as she grabbed my arm.
