Chapter 3

Author: Tiny Fish
Zach shielded Monette.

I opened my mouth, but I found myself unable to say anything.

Tears had finally blurred my vision, and I found that I could not connect this Zach with his eighteen-year-old self anymore.

Zach no longer spared me another glance. While holding Monette’s shoulder, he led her out.

“Zach, if I’m about to die, will you still treat me this way?”

He did not turn around. “If you’ll stop throwing these tantrums once you die, just die.”

I instantly lost all my strength and collapsed on the floor dejectedly.

Heh.

So, he wanted me dead so badly?

After that day, Zach never came back home.

I did not care about it either. I just made a checklist for my funeral.

I took a portrait of myself to put on my gravestone and bought the clothes I would be wearing in my coffin.

After a few days, the owner of the photography studio asked me to retrieve my photo.

When I saw my photo, I felt a well of complicated emotions.

Just as I was about to go back home, I spotted Zach and Monette in the corner.

“Why are you here? Were you following me?”

I did not want to argue with him anymore.

My stomach was hurting, and I just wanted to leave the place as soon as possible.

“Mr. Stone, it looks like Mrs. Stone was here to take photos.”

As Monette spoke, she tried to grab my photo, but I took a quick step backward.

“She doesn’t want us to see it.” Monette sounded sad, but she was implying something else. “Why are you being so mysterious? You’re making us think that you’re hiding a secret.”

Zach’s expression changed, and he looked at the photo.

“What exactly is it?”

The pain increased. I did not want to talk to them anymore, but Zach grabbed my wrist.

When he looked at me, his eyes were filled with disgust and suspicion.

However, I would no longer be hurt by those eyes.

“It’s nothing. It’s none of your business.”

I broke out of his grip, but Zach grabbed the side of the photo.

While we were fighting for it, the photo fell on the floor, and my portrait was revealed before everyone’s eyes.

“Why is it in black and white?”

Monette feigned surprise, but I saw her smiling.

I accepted my fate as I looked at the photo on the floor.

They still saw it in the end.

Would Zach regret how he treated me during my final days?

“Is this what you’ve been hiding?” I heard his cold and calm voice.

Zach’s expression was dark. I saw no traces of pain or regret on him.

“Are you serious this time?”

This man pitied me when I would so much as cough in the past. But he was currently thinking that I was fooling around with death.

The sadder fact was this: I had actually held out a shred of hope for him earlier.

I smiled. “Can’t I? I want to see you regret your actions.”

“Then, die.”

He shoved me and walked forward.

I could no longer stand and collapsed on the floor.

The passersby cried out in surprise, and Monette hurriedly helped me up.

She grabbed my arm and whispered into my ear, “See that? Even if you die, it’s useless. He no longer loves you.”

I used my final bit of strength to break away from her.

Zach saw this and called out to Monette coldly, “Ignore her. This is one of her old tricks. If she likes acting so much, let her.”

I went back home with the help of the strangers around me.

After taking a painkiller, the pain in my stomach went away bit by bit.

Feeling physically and emotionally exhausted, I lay down on the couch and covered my ears. In my ears, all I could hear was Zach telling me to die.

I remembered one winter in the past when I was sick.

The situation was so dire that the doctor made several announcements that I was in critical condition.

We had no money back then, so Zach went to his friends and family to ask for money. He was regarded with scorn, and they even insulted him.

I pitied him and did not want to become a burden. So, I stubbornly refused to take any medicine and refused to accept treatment as well.

Zach then knelt beside my bed and held my hand as he cried, “Please, Ninian. Take your medicine, okay?”

Fast forward to the present, and Zach wanted me dead more than anyone else.

I looked at the calendar on the wall. There were only a few days left until my one month was up.

Fortunately, he was about to have his wish.

In the blink of an eye, their wedding anniversary arrived. Zach brought a cake he had reserved back home, only to find it empty. He searched the entire place, but he could not find Ninian. The panic of losing her overwhelmed him again. In his anxiety, Zach called the police, only to hear the sound of plates shattering from the kitchen. Zach ran into the kitchen and saw Ninian tearing up. “Honey, I have cancer.”Before Zach could say anything, everything around them plunged into darkness, and Ninian showed up from another side. This time, she was emaciated. As she looked at him, her eyes were cold. “Zach, is it fun lying to yourself like this?”Zach’s mind went blank. In the next second, he cried in front of her. “Zach, I’m sorry, but I can’t forgive you this time. “I just don’t love you anymore.”The ground sank, and Zach did his best to catch Ninian. But he could only watch as she went further away from him. The fear of losing Ninian enveloped him. He fought a

Zach stayed there until the sun set. Since he did not want to go back to an empty house without Ninian, Zach avoided the workers who came to check the graveyard. When the moon rose, he returned to Ninian’s grave. A gentle night breeze blew in the graveyard and gave everything a cold presence. However, Zach was not scared because the person he had been missing dearly was buried here. He lay beside the tombstone and gently caressed the cold stone. He felt an unprecedented sense of calm. As the night breeze continued blowing, Zach fell asleep. When he opened his eyes again, he found that he was lying in bed. The gentle rays of the sun shone into the house, and all of the furniture around him told him that he was back home. When did he come back?He remembered staying at the graveyard…He heard footsteps. After a few seconds, the door swung open. It was Ninian! Was Ninian not… dead?Zach stared at her in disbelief, but she sat beside him with a smile. “Don’t you

Zach had been trying to contact Susan over this period. However, knowing that Zach was trying to see Ninian, Susan rejected him. She never would have expected him to use the police to contact her. Since they had been friends for years, Susan could not find it in herself to be completely heartless toward him. After all, she was also worried that Zach would cause a huge problem. When she saw that the situation was not that dire, she attempted to leave, only to hear a loud thud. Zach had knelt on the floor. He had his head bowed, and his shoulders trembled. “Susan, I’m begging you… Please… Let me see her…”Susan had never seen Zach be so pitifully meek, and her unyielding determination yielded. On the day he went to meet Ninian, Zach wore a suit. It was the graduation present Ninian had given him when they graduated from university. He bought a huge bouquet of daisies and also went to the barber to have his hair styled. While on the way there, both of them were silen

“Look! I told you that he wouldn’t be able to control himself!“It’s not that he’s loyal to his dead wife. It’s just that none of the women who approached him were his type!“But Zach, it’s time for you to change your tastes. Aren’t you sick of someone like your wife?“Still, as long as you like that type, we can find someone like your wife.”A man’s boisterous laughter filled the room, and Zach burned with anger. He shoved the woman away and grabbed her neck as he pinned her against the table. He started squeezing down until her face turned red. The woman struggled nonstop to break free from him. “Zach, stop! You’re about to kill her!”The men hurriedly pulled Zach off the woman, who scurried out of the room the moment she got free. Zach glared at the other men. “I’m warning all of you. If you dare disrespect my wife again, I’m not going to forgive you!“I won’t show any mercy to those who dare use such dirty tricks on me again either!”The men exchanged glances and

After dealing with Monette, Zach took a long break. Since he could not accept the fact that Ninian was gone, Zach chose to drown himself in alcohol. “It would have been great if I had known that she had cancer sooner. “It would have been great if I hadn’t fallen for Monette’s seduction.“It would have been…”He sat in a room in a bar and just kept drinking in regret. Zach did not know just how many days it had been since he last slept. Ninian was no longer around in the house, and he could not bear to be there. Even though the old house had been restored to how it originally looked, it was no longer what it used to be. He wanted to numb himself through alcohol so that he could alleviate the pain of missing Ninian. However, even after drinking several bottles of beer, he did not get drunk. Instead, his mind just kept getting clearer. He knew very well that Ninian was no longer beside him. With a bitter smile, Zach downed another bottle of beer and got up to call th

Monette crawled toward Zach and grabbed his wrist as she pleaded tearfully. However, he remained unmoved. Monette quickly took a piece of paper from her pocket and showed it to Zach as she shouted, “Mr. Stone, I’m really sorry! Please forgive me for the baby’s sake!“You’ve always wanted a child, haven’t you? Look! We’re about to have one!“Your dream of having a family of three is about to come true…”“Hah!” Zach sneered and grabbed Monette’s chin so harshly that he immediately bruised her. “When have I ever said that I wanted to form a family with you?“The dream I have is to have a family of three with Ninian.“As for you, you’re just a tool for me.”He then broke free of Monette’s grasp. She collapsed on the floor limply and in a daze. “I remember telling you multiple times to remember your place. But you forgot about it and hurt my wife behind my back.“In that case, you need to suffer the consequences!“As for the baby, since Ninian is already dead, it has no re
