“Jack!” Grace called out in a panicked tone as she arrived at the bar. She really couldn't calm down after she heard Claire's words that they were going to stay at the hotel. She had urged Shane to track down her husband, and here he was. In a first-class bar in the middle of downtown LA.
All eyes are immediately on Grace. Especially since she came in wearing only her sleeping pajamas and house slippers. Her hair was a mess with a sleep bando attached to her head. Her face was plain without makeup. She really looked rumpled and messy.
Only one word Jackson could summarize: embarrassing.
A worried look was still on Grace's face when she discovered that her husband was fine. He even looked normal, not drunk at all. There were indeed many glasses and bottles of alcohol on the round table. Some of them were empty, while others still looked full.
“Is she your wife?” A man asked in confirmation. His tone and smile were condescending.
Jackson could only look down to hide his embarrassment. He really didn't expect that Grace would come there just to embarrass him.
“I thought your wife was much prettier than Claire, so you preferred her. Turns out she's nothing compared to Claire.”
“I think your eyes are blind, Jack. You left Claire just to marry a woman like that?”
“Are you banned from drinking now that you're married to her?”
“Her appearance is so disheveled, I even get sick of it as soon as I see her.”
“People will think that you're a cruel and stingy husband just by looking at your wife's appearance, Jack.”
The nasty comments were directed at Grace. They may have been directed at Jackson, but it was obvious that they wanted to insult Grace directly.
“Don't say things like that. We don't know what brought her here in that condition.” Claire tried to intervene. She smiled sardonically, seemingly satisfied when Grace was humiliated.
Grace fell silent. She squeezed her fingers because she felt she had done something wrong. They were right; she should not have come to this place looking like that. She had embarrassed her husband without realizing it.
“You're very kind, Claire. You even defended her after she ruined your relationship with Jackson.” James complimented.
Jackson sighed harshly; he put his glass down rather rudely on the table and then rose to his feet to approach his wife. A little rudely, Jackson pulled Grace away from him.
“You came here on purpose just to embarrass me?” Jackson asked sharply. He had not yet gotten over his annoyance over Grace's pregnancy, but now he was again annoyed at being humiliated.
“I didn't know you were having fun with your friend. Claire said you were drunk and she was going to take you to a hotel to sleep together. I came to pick you up because I thought you were really drunk.” Grace tried to explain.
“Don't drag Claire into this. She's very kind and understanding; it's useless if you want to incite me to hate her.” Jackson said sharply.
“But she really did say that.” Grace tried to be convincing.
“Can't you do the right thing for once? Stop getting on my nerves!” Jackson raised his voice.
Grace fell silent.
“I'm not done with the child in your womb. Tomorrow we have to go to the gynecologist to abort the fetus.”
Grace was shocked to hear her husband's words. On what basis was she being asked to terminate the pregnancy? Even if Jackson couldn't accept her as his wife, the child was still theirs. At least Jackson could accept his own flesh and blood.
“I don't want an abortion.” Grace insisted.
“I didn't ask for your consent; the fetus should still be aborted. I don't want you to profit from the child of your infidelity.”
“How many times must I tell you that this is your son!” Grace insisted. She seemed burdened by her husband's accusations.
Jackson laughed slightly. “You think I'm stupid? How could you possibly be pregnant with my child if I never slept with you?”
“Don't tell me that you forgot that you walked into my room three months ago and forced me to sleep with you.” Grace reminded.
She could clearly remember when Jackson came home drunk and forced his way into her room. Jackson had even insisted that she serve him, taking away her chastity. He even left her when he was done making love. He walked out of Grace's room as if she was a woman he had just hired.
“Stop making up stories. I never came into your room, let alone made love to you.” Jackson refused to admit.
“Jack! The food you ordered is here!” Claire's call came from inside.
Jackson sighed deeply. “Now go home; I still have some business.”
“Come home with me; you can't drink any more.” Grace was a little pushy. She grabbed Jackson's wrist, putting on a pleading face to make him want to go home with her.
“You have no right to give me orders. I'll make a reckoning with you if you mess up again. I don't mess with my words. Tomorrow we go to the gynecologist for an abortion, or you divorce me. You only have two choices, and you can only choose one.” Jackson said firmly, released Grace's grip on his arm, and walked away.
Grace stared at her husband's back with indescribable feelings. Her heart was completely broken now. She didn't expect Jackson to choose Claire over her. Coupled with Jackson's abortion order. She really couldn't believe that she was finally in this position.
“You see, Jackson loves me more than you. When you called him, he was going to the toilet. I deliberately picked up the phone when I saw the call was from you. I just wanted to tell you and prove to you that for Jackson, the most important thing is me. All this time he could never forget me. To him you are just trash, a burden, and a person who is an obstacle to his happiness. In Jackson's eyes, you are even cheaper than a prostitute. I'm telling you not to torture yourself in this marriage. Just divorce him and get as far away as possible.” Claire said in a tone that sounded so haughty.
“Why did you lie to me by saying that you would sleep in a hotel with him?”
“I didn't lie to you. Who knew that Jackson would ask me to sleep with him?" Claire answered haughtily. “Ah yeah, one more thing. I know that you're pregnant with Jackson's child. I was the one who told him that you were cheating on Shane; I was also the one who gave him the photos. So, if you want to live in peace, then step back from Jackson's life. You will never guess what I can do to make him hate you even more.” The woman made threats, then walked away.
"Where's Jack?" Helena looked around; she was searching for her son. Margaret's condition was critical; there was no way Jackson was not at the hospital. Everyone knew how much Jackson loved his grandmother."He's at home, ma'am. I've asked him to come to the hospital, but he doesn't want to. He didn't care when Mrs. Margaret collapsed right in front of him." Margaret's personal nurse said with suppressed fear.Helena stared with a furrowed brow. She fixed the woman with a probing gaze."Grace must have instigated it, right? Look, that woman isn't here either. It must have been her who asked Jackson to ignore his grandmother. He always does whatever she says; he doesn't even care about his own feelings as long as she's happy." Helena accused without proof. She was glad that Grace wasn't there, but she was also annoyed that Jackson wasn't either."You're wrong, ma'am. Mrs. Grace was the one who panicked the most when Mrs. Margaret had a heart attack. She even went to the hospital and w
"What have you done? Is what Shane said true? Do you want to kill Grace? Is my life really so worthless in your eyes that you always ignore my words? If you really hate Grace because of this marriage, then take your anger out on me! You really want me dead!" Margaret screamed her heart out. She hit Jackson with all the strength she had. Of course, her punch meant nothing to Jackson. The emotion that attacked Margaret this time could no longer be contained. Her chest hurt so much, she began to have trouble breathing. Until the next minute, she fell unconscious."Madam! Madam!" Nurse Margaret immediately ran over. She tried to administer first aid, making sure that Margaret's heart was still beating.Jackson sighed harshly. He had no energy to start the drama."Grandma, I know you're just pretending. You can't threaten me with your life anymore. I've had enough." Jackson said firmly."Sir, Mrs. Margaret's condition is very critical. It's best to take her to the hospital quickly." The nu
Shane turned to look at his father. "It's okay; you don't have to worry." He smiled and said.Seeing Shane's suspicious expression and gesture, Robin was even more suspicious."Does this have something to do with Grace? Did that bastard do something last night that made you guys arrive at the party late?" Robin continued to pepper Shane with questions. She was really worried about Grace. Especially since it was already noon and Grace hadn't come out of the room yet."It's nothing serious, Dad. There's no way I wouldn't tell you if something happened to Grace." Shane tried to reassure.Robin was no longer pressing, so she chose to trust and resign hisself to his son's answer. He had trusted Shane with Grace. It was true what he said; there was no way he could keep something a secret from his father. Especially if the matter was related to Grace."Dad, Shane, what's wrong? Why do you look tense?" Lindsay asked with a furrowed brow. She stepped closer, approaching the two men."It's noth
Grace lay down gently on the hotel bed. She wasn't coming home tonight, as she would be staying there with her family. Shane slept in the room on the right, while Robin and Lindsay slept in the room on the left. She was flanked by the family that loved her so much.A rough sigh came from Grace. She stared at the ceiling, then her mind began to wander. She didn't know what good her biological parents had done during their lifetime. So that now she was showered with many kindnesses after her parents were gone.Even though her life was perfect now, she still missed her dead mother and father. She grabbed her phone, opened the gallery, and looked at a picture of her as a child being carried by her father while her mother hugged her father. They looked like a happy little family."I'm sorry, I still can't find the culprit who hit you that night. I promise, I will seek justice when I find out who it was." Grace said weakly. She hugged her phone and closed her eyes until she fell asleep. The
Grace turned her head to look at Shane with a knowing look. Her lips were smiling broadly. She squeezed her fingers to neutralize her feelings. Everyone who sees can understand what Grace is feeling right now. There was love there."He's the best man I've ever had in my life. If there is a next life, I hope we meet in a different way. I don't want to be his sister; I want to be the woman who will accompany him throughout his life." Grace said weakly, but with emphasis.Shane was silent. Was it a sign that his love was unrequited?"In this life, I pray that he finds the best woman who can love him more than I love him. He's a good man; I don't deserve him. He deserves a much better woman than me." Grace continued.Robin grasped Grace's fingers gently. Her palms felt very cold, a sign that she was depressed at the moment."Mrs. Grace, if in this life you were not destined to be foster siblings, would you marry him?"Grace was silent for a moment. Shane looked at her deeply, as if he wan
The door to the operating room opened with the appearance of the doctor behind it. The surgery went faster than expected. Shane immediately approached with worry. He was still very nervous until now. His face looked a little pale."How is she, Doc?" Shane asked worriedly. The doctor sighed deeply. He looked at Shane tenderly, a faint smile on his lips. "It's a miracle that she survived. I have read her pregnancy history; it turns out that she has often almost miscarried. The determination of the mother and the baby-to-be was very strong to survive. This was the first time I had encountered a case like this. She should have lost her baby a long time ago. But this was a miracle of God. I'm really very surprised and very happy at the same time."Shane rubbed his face roughly. He was so relieved when he heard that Grace was fine and the pregnancy was not terminated because the fetus still wanted to survive."Can I come in?""Go ahead. Mrs. Grace can go home as soon as she regains consciou
