Chapter 12 She Loves Proving People Wrong

Marcus’s face turned ashen again as he gripped Yaslyn’s hand, hurrying to speak. "Look at her, spending others' money without a second thought! She's buying everything for herself!"

In the car, Yaslyn wordlessly rolled her eyes in response to Marcus’s grumbling.

The evening arrived swiftly. After dinner, Yaslyn donned a simple black dress, joining the others as they headed for the concert.

Their seats were in the second row. As soon as they settled in, Zaylee quickly sat next to Xoan. Yaslyn remained unperturbed and took a seat next to Sheldon.

The concert started promptly. Henry, clad in a sleek black suit, took the stage. As a top star, he was undeniably handsome. The crowd erupted with cheers so loud that Yaslyn thought her eardrums might burst.

An hour passed with Henry performing several songs. When it came time for the next segment, the host slowly walked on stage, announcing, "Today marks Henry's tenth anniversary. We've prepared a surprise for you! We will randomly select a lucky fan who will have the opportunity to sing a duet with Henry on stage."

Thunderous applause rang out from the fans, their voices filled with excitement and close to turning hoarse. The digital lottery spun on stage, finally stopping at the number 26.

A wave of disappointment spread among those fans who had not been selected, their curiosity piqued by who the lucky fan in seat 26 could be.

It was Sheldon who broke the silence, exclaiming, "Unbelievable! Yaslyn, 26 is you!"

Yaslyn paused momentarily just as the host cheered, "Let's welcome the fan from seat 26 on stage!"

With a hint of surprise, she wondered, 'Could this be a coincidence?'

Her gaze fell upon the others, catching the barely hidden delight in Zaylee's eyes. A realization dawned on Yaslyn. Someone wanted to see her make a fool of herself. Despite the pressure, she walked up onto the stage.

Upon seeing Yaslyn, Henry was visibly surprised. With an amiable smile, the host asked, "Wow, you are quite beautiful, miss! May I ask your name?"

"Yaslyn," she answered calmly.

The crowd was stunned into silence.

Yaslyn? Yaslyn, the girl who's engaged to the Warren family? Was she that beautiful?

Half of the crowd was comprised of Henry’s fangirls. Conversations broke out, and their eyes filled with envy as they glared at Yaslyn.

"Now," the host said, "the song we're going to cover is Natalie's 'Goodnight'. Ms. Lyon, I assume you've heard this song before. We just need you to sing the chorus during our interactive segment."

Natalie was a popular singer, although her appearance remained a mystery. However, her voice captured the hearts of fans globally.

The topic fell into Yaslyn's court.

She pursed her lips and responded, neither hurriedly nor slowly, "I've heard it, but I'm tone-deaf and can't sing. I apologize."

Whispers erupted from the audience.

"She should leave! How embarrassing! Why did the Warren family even choose her when she can't even sing?"

"Exactly! Don't stand next to my idol. It's humiliating!"

"Yaslyn, get off the stage!"

Yaslyn squinted slightly. She knew that those who wanted to see her make a fool of herself must be thoroughly enjoying themselves.

However, she loved nothing more than proving people wrong.

She took the microphone from the host, looking at Henry as she coolly said, "I can't sing this song, but I can provide the accompaniment."

The accompaniment for the song was played on the piano. Henry eyed Yaslyn doubtfully. She cannot sing, yet she claims to play the piano. Was she trying to mock him?
