LOGINI started walking towards the high school. I had plenty of time. I was kind of lost in my own thoughts. Mostly, I was thinking about my family. My Mom, Clara, lives at the packhouse. She is an assistant to our Luna Mazie and holds a Delta rank. Mom likes to stay close in case the Luna needs her. Dad would be welcome to live with her as the head Epsilon, but he likes to be home with me. My younger brothers live with Mom. As a teenage girl, I am the only one that would not be allowed to live in the packhouse.
At 15, girls become unranked. Before that we are considered the rank of our parents, so I have been unranked for 2 years, 11 months and 13 days. I turn 18 in two short weeks. I don't expect to find that I have a wolf when I turn 18. I just kind of think that if I had a wolf, I would feel it. Besides, I have a plan and having a wolf isn't in the plan. I plan to finish school in two months and leave the pack. Technically, I can go to college and the pack will pay for my schooling and housing if I am unmated. The trade off is that females return to the pack lands each quarter for the Mates Dinner. It's basically a big party for all the unmated pack members to mingle and hopefully meet their fated mate. In our pack this is a huge deal for females to return since it is a second chance to find our wolf. I don't know that I want to return once I leave. Again, I don't think I have a wolf. But college is expensive and having the pack pay would be pretty nice, maybe the trade off would be worth it. If I do have a wolf, my plan is moot. I will be expected to mate and breed. A she-wolf's greatest contribution to the pack is making little wolves to strengthen the pack. Moonless Night is a medium sized pack. There are around 1,200 members. I have never really seen myself as a mate and mother. If I have a wolf, I will be introduced to every unmated male in our pack at the earliest opportunity. This is in the hope that my fated mate is a member of our pack. Moonless Night females rarely leave the pack if they have a wolf. A male wolf can reject a fated mate, but a she-wolf can not initiate a rejection. The last rejection in our pack happened so long ago that it's like a legend. The sounds of cars and teenagers talking around me got louder. I was close to school now. I hunched my shoulders trying to disappear as I headed up the stairs and into the building. Standing at my locker, I opened it and began prepping what I needed for my morning classes: Physics, Geometry, History and English. Once I had my morning stuff in my bag, I locked my locker and turned towards the stairs only to bump into something solid. "Sorry, sorry, sorry. I didn't...." I started to apologize but stopped speaking when I looked up to see it was Carson. Twice in one morning! What are the odds? "Hi Celia. I couldn't wait until English. I am assuming these are yours." He said as he handed me my shorts and socks, neatly folded. "Uhm, yeah. Thanks." I said, shoving them into my bag. "Sorry for crashing into you twice today." Carson smiled. "I don't mind. Feel free to crash into me anytime." He winked and started walking away. "WTF!!! Celia, what was that? How do you know Carson? And what did he mean 'crash into me anytime'? Did he wink at you?" I sighed heavily. "Morning Ang. I don't know. He is in my English class. I ran into him while running this morning and then again now. I am going to have bruises from it. And yes he winked at me, but I don't know why." Ang hooked her arm through mine and we both headed for the stairs. This was going to be a long morning. I hoped she would drop it, but I knew she wouldn't. We have 2 classes together in the morning and more in the afternoon. "I need details!" Ang said excitedly. "Can we just drop it and forget it happened?" I said rolling my eyes. "Hell no! That man is hot with a capital h! And he is winking at you and flirting. 'Crash into me anytime', she imitated Carson's husky voice. " I think he likes you." Ang giggled. "No. If anything he was worried that I was scared this morning when I crashed into him and he reports to my Dad, so he is probably just worried about his job." I tried to brush it off. "So you were far enough from town that you crashed into him while he was on patrol? What were you scared of? What happened? Oh! Better question! Did he shift in front of you? I definitely wouldn't mind getting an eye full of his hot bod as he shifted." Ang smiled and leered. "Goddess! Girl you need to get a grip. Yes, he's good looking, but all the warriors are! He's not interested in me though, he can't be." I said as we slid into our seats and the bell rang. I breathed in relief that Ang couldn't continue her barrage for at least 50 minutes now. Class flew by, mostly because I was dreading the questions Ang would have locked and loaded the minute the bell rang. We had a pop quiz, which was too easy for me, but everyone else in class groaned like the teacher was a sadist. During class, I thought about answering Ang's questions and decided that I needed to simply refuse. I took a deep breath in and tried to find my spine. I usually played along with Ang. But this time, no. The bell rang and immediately Ang was right beside me. We headed out the door on our way to our next class. "Where did you crash into Carson? Was it at the lake? Did he see you swimming? Do you swim naked? Did he see..." I held up my hand to stop her. "No Ang. Just no." I really didn't want to talk about it. I didn't want rumors starting and I didn't want to cause trouble for our Epsilons. If it wasn't common knowledge that humans were coming onto pack lands, I didn't want to be the one to let it get out. "Wow. You never tell me no." Ang said softly as we heard a snort behind us.I was disgusted by Alphas being involved in purchasing women. It was unthinkable. I was furious and speaking with Jorge had not helped. The man had tried to defend his actions! Eve touched my arm, pulling me from my dark thoughts. "My Alpha, please do not be more angered by this. Both Alphas have agreed to return the girls. The other two will as well. You knew this would be the difficult part." She said softly. I leaned down and captured her soft lips in a kiss. I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into my lap. I cradled her head keeping our lips locked together until she made a small whimper reminding me we were in a public bar. I released her and kissed her forehead. "Thank you my fearless vixen. I needed your words and your lips." She smiled. "Kane, I don't do relationships and I don't do PDA. Not matter how good you are at kissing me senseless, don't do that again." Her tone was light but deadly serious. I smiled, "Noted. I make no promises." Eve shook her head a
As soon as I woke, I felt Celly moving a little frantically. I felt fear and confusion through our bond. She struggled against me. I tightened my arms around her and pushed calm through our bond. "Honey. Calm down, I'm right here. I've got you. You're safe Celly. I'll keep you safe forever.""Carson?" She whispered. "What's wrong? What's happening?" She sounded confused. "It's ok. Everything is fine. Did you have a nightmare, honey?" I asked softly. "No. I don't remember dreaming. I...my wolf was saying there was danger and I needed to go, I needed to run." She said quietly. I held her tighter. "There's no danger honey. I've got you. We're safe." I kissed the top of her head. I kept pushing calmness through our bond. Celly pushed up on her arms, putting a distance between our bodies. "Car, let me go, please. I need to use the bathroom." She said softly. I let her go and she slid quickly off the bed. She walked across the room. As she closed the door, I heard the lock engage. S
Carson had done so much and I wanted to be honest with him, but it was so hard to put into words how bad things with my wolf were getting. She hates me and she is so angry. I didn't really think there was anything that could be done. My wolf was howling again. 'Don't tell him! He will imprison us!' She dug her claws in. There was no talking to her. Carson frowned. "Leaving me won't make her happy. She's lying to you, honey." "I know." I whispered. "It's hard to have a voice in your head constantly saying horrible things." Carson pulled me up and into his arms. "I love you Celly. Please never let her convince you that I don't love you. I will always love you." "I know Car. I love you too." I kissed him. I meant for it to be a quick kiss but as soon as my lips touched his, I was consumed by the white hot heat of our mate bond. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed my body tighter to him. Carson wrapped his arms around me tighter and lifted me off the ground just enough that
Kane began making the phone calls. They called for the power of his Alpha aura. He started with the two Alphas he knew. The Southern pack, High Desert Moon, was first. Alpha Jorge was listed as the buyer. Kane was noticeably angry. "Jorge, this is Kane. I have heard some disturbing news about you." Kane paused letting his words settle. "You attended an auction and purchased girls. Why?" Kane growled. Kane clicked the phone onto speaker. Jorge was blustering, "What are you talking about Kane? I don't know what you are talking about."Kane took a long, slow breath in. "First full moon of the quarter, according to the records I'm looking at you have attended three times in the last two years and have purchased seven females. You spent just shy of six hundred thousand. Those girls were stolen from their homes. You will be returning them. If they have borne pups, the pups come with the mothers if they want them. Jorge, don't contact any other buyers you know or anyone connected to the au
I watched Celly, waiting for her to say anything, to look up. Goddess! Please, please don't let this have been the wrong thing to do for her! Did I overstep filling in her information? Should I have not gotten her transcript for her? I was consumed with worry that she was upset, that I had screwed up. "Why do you feel worried, Car?" She asked quietly. "You haven't said anything. Did I overstep? Should I have not filled in your information? Did I upset you?" I said, my voice barely audible. "No Car. I'm overwhelmed by how much you love me. I know you promised and you are an honorable man. I didn't expect that you'd be more than supportive. Getting the application would have been enough, but filling it out, paying the fee. It's overwhelming. You went to the school and got my transcript." The smaller envelope fell off her lap. "What's this?" She bent down and picked up the small envelope from the pack bank. She opened it. "Car... what?" "You didn't have an account at the pack bank.
Few of the Warriors opted to return home, we said our goodbyes to four men. One said to me, "I would stay, but my mate is pregnant. I can't risk my life knowing it would kill my mate and unborn pup to have the bond severed." I nodded, "Your mate needs you. Go to her." I said. Lucien called Red Dawn and had twelve Warriors enroute to round out the strike teams. The Warriors staying on were honorable and losing even one was going to be difficult for me. I didn't need to add to my own nightmares by being responsible for sending good men to their deaths. 'Goldie, we must do everything in our power to minimize our losses. These men need to return to their packs alive!' 'We will do as much as possible. I will guide you and give you wisdom. But know we will have losses. Ramos will kill to keep the girls he has.' Goldie answered. I growled. Ramos is the bastard that stolen my own future and turned me into what I have become. Nine years I have spent trapped between a pack of bastard
I should have been born a mermaid. I thought as I broke the surface and took a deep breath. I began swimming, cutting across the lake as fast as I could. I love coming up to the lake. I run five miles every morning to get here, swim laps and then run five miles home to get ready for school. Stoppin
Thankfully, the prison transport went smoothly. Eve's solution kept the men groggy and passive. Their wolves suppressed. None of these six had willpower to do anything. As soon as we landed, the prisoners were moved to three waiting vehicles. I had elite Red Dawn Warriors in each vehicle. There wo
I woke up suddenly. In my dream, a man had pulled Celly out of my arms. She frowned and told him, "No! I'm not yours!" But he kept pulling her away from me. I reached for Celly, but her side of our bed was empty. I sat up, she wasn't in our room. The bathroom door was open, no light was on. I got
The guards had been back on the landing when Carson and I came down with the pups. I guessed I was still being babysat. I tried to ignore it, though it annoyed me. I tried my best to be in a good mood for the pups. We were laughing and chatting as we ate dinner with the pups. I overheard a little
