Chapter 4

I discharged myself from the hospital after Alice left and hailed a cab to the company.

Benji looked incredibly upset when he saw me. It was the first time he had ever looked at me with a long face in the many years that I had known him.

It seemed that Alice had told him everything.

He fixed a gentle expression on his face and said, "You're not fully recovered yet, Harper. Why didn't you stay put in the hospital?"

He then walked over to me and took my hand. He moved his lips close to my ear and said in a hushed voice,

"Alice was just talking nonsense earlier, Harper. I'll explain everything to you when we get home later.

"Don't be angry. The one I love the most is you. I'll send you home, alright?"

I swatted his hand away.

"Drop the act, Benji," I snapped, staring into his eyes. "I heard everything that you said in the living room that day. I saw everything too.

"I know that the so-called vitamins that you've been feeding me are actually drugs that trigger a miscarriage. Dr. Kane is one of your men. You've just been putting up an act in front of me for all these years."

Benji's smile stiffened. He looked immensely upset.

Having no idea what was going on, the employees around us directed their attention to us.

"We're at the company, Harper Weller. Can you not cause a scene?" Benji hissed.

It had been years since he addressed me with my full name.

I shook my head and clearly said, "I'm going to clear things up with you right now. Don't tell me that you're not going to take responsibility for the things that you've done, Benji?"

Benji dragged me into his office—the same one that I had built for him many years ago.

"Have you lost your mind, Harper? All the employees are still around. Do you have no shame?"

"How dare you call me shameless? You know exactly what's going on between you and Alice. However, the name of the company is Weller Group, not Morrison Group. I'm officially informing you that you're fired!"

Benji suddenly burst into laughter. He grasped my face between his fingers and forced me to look at the office area.

"Just take a look outside. Do you even know a single person here? You haven't managed the company in years. Don't delude yourself into thinking that you can take charge of its operations.

"Stop dreaming, Harper. Go home right now, and you can still enjoy being 'Mrs. Morrison'. The three of us can have a good time together just like before. We can also return to being a loving couple.

"You're the one who's going to get discarded if you decide to burn your bridges now. You won't have a single title or penny to your name."

Just then, Alice entered the office with bloodshot eyes. "Harper must just be feeling a little confused, Benji. You should have someone send her home."

"Look at how mature Alice is, Harper," Benji said, looking at me in disappointment. "Why are you acting like a lunatic? Where has all your rationality gone?"

Alice also dropped the act, locking arms with Benji right before my eyes. "Harper lost her baby so many times, Benji. If she's willing, I don't mind letting her be our children's godmother in the future."

I couldn't believe how shameless they were being.

They were the ones who were responsible for making me suffer eight miscarriages, and yet, now they were saying that they were willing to let me be their children's godmother.

I scoffed. "I'm not willing at all."

Benji didn't even have time to smile before I spat out my icy retort.

He immediately frowned and said, "Don't make things difficult for yourself, Harper. We've been together for so many years, but this is the first time I'm seeing your true nature."

It seemed that he had lost interest in speaking to me.

He grabbed his phone and dialed a number, saying, "Bring two security guards to my office, Esther. Tell them that they'll be escorting Mrs. Morrison home."

I clenched my fists. "You're going to order them to drag me home?"

"I have no other choice. I can't let you get in the way of the company's operations."

I burst into laughter as I looked at how Benji and Alice were glued together. "The dog that the Weller family raised has no right to get in the way of the head of the Weller family."

Benji looked as if I had stepped on his metaphorical tail. His face turned a ruddy red before he roared, "What are you waiting for? Drag this crazy woman out of my office right now!"

"I'm curious to see who's brave enough to lay their hands on her!" another voice boomed.
