It was almost midnight and my feet were killing me.
It was a friday and Blue Lounge bar was packed, as usual. It was the same old crowd, city guys in suits, too drunk to stand but somehow still cocky enough to make my skin crawl.
“Selena!” my manager yelled from behind the bar. “Table nine’s drunk and rich. Go charm ‘em.”
I rolled my eyes as I picked up the tray of drinks and summoned my best fake smile. “Yeah, because that always ends well.” I muttered to myself. Most of the men in the bar were sleaze bags that thought they were entitled to getting in my pants.
As I walked over, I could already hear them. The loud, annoying laughter, the clink of glasses and a comment about my ass I pretended not to hear. I dropped their drinks on the table.
“Three bourbons, one gin and a martini. Anything else?”
One of them with a red tie and greasy hair grinned at me, licking his lips like I was dessert. “You, sweetheart.”
I froze first, stopping myself from giving him a dirty look. Then I turned away.
Suddenly, he grabbed my wrist.
I jerked back. “Don’t touch me.”
“Aww, don’t be like that, sweetheart,” he slurred, standing up. “We’re just having a good time. No need to be rude.”
“I said don’t touch me.”
The other guys laughed like it was a show. I was just about to smack him in the head with my tray when a voice came from behind me.
“Let her go.”
The guy blinked, looking up. “What?”
“I said let. Her. Go.”
I turned and someone in a black hoodie with his face mostly covered. But his stance was firm and I got a very unsettling vibe from him.
Red tie scoffed. “Mind your own business, bro.”
The man stepped closer. Just one step, but it was enough.
“I’m not your bro. And you’ve got three seconds before I make you regret touching her.”
Everything went still. For a second, I thought Red tie might take a swing. But he didn’t. Clearly intimidated, he backed off with a laugh that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Whatever, man. She’s not worth it anyway.”
I clenched my fists. I wanted to scream at him or punch him or maybe both. But I just turned back to the stranger.
“Thanks,” I said, heart still racing.
He nodded once. “You okay?”
“Yeah. Just another night.”
He looked at me a second longer. I expected him to say something more. But he just turned, disappearing into the crowd.
I sighed, walking back to the bar when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I looked at the screen.
Dad
I answered immediately. “Dad?”
“Selena—” His voice was frantic and his breaths were coming out heavy and shaky. “I need you to come home. Now. Please. Something’s happened.”
My stomach dropped. “Dad, what's going on?”
“I—I don’t know. They’re saying things… just come quickly.”
He hung up.
I didn't waste a second.
By the time I got outside the bar, the street was mostly empty and the air was cold. Luckily I got a cab. My heart raced faster the closer we got as I wandered what awaited me at home.
When the cab finally turned the corner onto my street, I saw the flashing red and blue lights first.
Police cars. News vans. Reporters swarming like flies.
“No… God, no.”
I threw cash at the driver and jumped out, running towards the house. There he was. My dad, in handcuffs. Being led out of our house like a criminal.
“Dad!”
I pushed past a reporter shoving a mic in my face. “Move!”
He saw me and froze. His eyes widened.
“Selena, go inside!”
“What’s happening?” I yelled. “Why are they taking you?”
An officer tried to hold me back, but I kept reaching for my father.
“Ma'am, please step back.” he warned.
“He didn’t do anything!” I cried. “Tell them, Dad! Tell them you're innocent!”
He looked me directly in the eyes. And my heart broke.
“I didn’t do it,” he whispered. “I swear, baby girl. I didn’t do it.”
“Then why? w-what did they say you did?!”
“Fraud and Embezzlement. They found some secret accounts in my name. But I never… Selena, you have to believe me. I never touched any of it. Someone's setting me up.”
“I know dad, I know… just tell them”
They’re not listening”
They started pulling him toward the car again.
I grabbed his sleeve. “Don’t take him! Please, he’s all I have left!”
“Ma’am, you need to let go.”
“Please! Just listen. He's innocent,”
They shut the car door in my face.
I ran after the car as it drove away, screaming at the top of my lungs. Eyes stinging, head hammering. “Dad! Dad!”
But he was gone.
And I was left standing there. In the middle of the street. Lights flashing. Reporters shouting. Cameras clicking.
I couldn’t move. Couldn't breathe.
My hand clawed at my aching chest. Tears fell from my face as I stared after the police car that took my father. The man who raised me. Who worked himself day and night to keep me safe after mum died.
He was just gone.
Framed for a crime he didn't commit.
Who could've done this? Why?
I was completely alone again. I hadn't felt such an intense feeling of loss since mum died… No, this couldn’t be happening to me. Not again.
I looked around me at the chaos. The police lights reminded me of the ambulance that had taken out mum's body. And then, I was filled with rage. I couldn't fight death, but I could sure as hell fight whoever had framed my dad.
Wherever they were… I would make them pay.
Selena POV Bright light hit my face as I slowly opened my eyes, squinting at several intervals. I groaned, sitting up on the bed as a pang of headache gripped me. Where was I? “You’re awake.” A familiar voice spoke, causing me to sharply look to my side. My eyes met with a pair of blue orbs staring at me intently, filled with worry. “Aiden.” I raised a brow. “Look, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for things to end up this way. I only wanted to help. I didn’t know that Dante would get hurt in the end.” He sighed. Upon hearing the name Dante, memories of the previous day came rushing in from the accident to seeing him being placed on a stretcher, drenched in blood. I sat up immediately. “Where is he?” He pursed his lips, his expression turning grim—which made me figure that something was wrong. “I want to see him now. Take me to the hospital, Aiden.” I pleaded, pushing myself out of bed. “The doctor isn’t allowing anyone in.” Screw that. “I don’t care. I’m his wife, and I have eve
SERENA'S POV.I got to the gate, barging it out loud, breathing profusely, holding my chest, “gosh, this bastard lied to me” I bit my thumb and bounced my leg on the ground.Aiden strolled out of the mansion, appearing in his night robe… “Open up the gate for her” he said and immediately the gate man adhered.I looked at him and began to walk towards him. “You tricked me. You are a liar and a cheat. How did you both get to have me tricked this much? How and you made me believe you were fighting for me.. how Aiden how?” I asked as I walked my hand through my air in a rough way.Aiden looked at me from my head down to my toes, “Selena, you are not okay, you need to come in. Let’s go in and discuss this” he said and tried to touch me.I pointed a finger at him, “don’t you dare! Don’t you dare touch me or move close to me, else, I will cause a scene here” Immediately, Aiden began to walk into his mansion and I continued to follow him. “Yes, that’s it! That is it right there… That is Da
DANTE'S POV“Hello, my love!” The voice signed, and continued, “it’s being a while” I looked at the screen and I was shocked even in the middle of an unsettled issue that it was an unknown number.“Who is this calling me?” I asked.“Hey sweetheart! You need to stop the pretense. It’s me your forever love” the voice called out one more time and that greased my bones.“Who the heck are you? Else I will hang up on you this moment” I yelled at once, having me breath profusely.“You don’t have to be in a rush, it’s me CAMILLE” the voice called out and immediately my phone beeped.I looked at the screen and it was off the grid— “shit, this demon is at it again! She is the one playing this game, “arghhh” I screamed out.***CAMILLE POV. I smiled as I hung up the call and looked at the ceiling. I snapped my finger at Cassandra, “hey baby girl, put me on a live session” Casandra smiled, winked at me and replied, “now you are light. The whole room was set with cameras and the lighting was b
SERENA'S POV “What’s going on?” my lips muttered.I looked around, but didn't find what I was looking for.“Shit! My phone must be in my room.I packed the file slowly, wiped my tears off and head to my room.***Immediately, I picked up my phone, lots of messages popped up. “Shit, it’s Maya” I whispered to myself.I beeped at her but to no response- over and over again, but something seems to be wrong somewhere.I scoffed as I spilled out, “pick up your calls girl.. I need you” I whispered into the air.Followed by a message that I read out, “don’t call me! I am at work, check your socials messages” I ran to insta to see what was going on and boom, I found tons of blurry pictures.I tipped my teeth, “where do I start from” I whispered- Maya has done her thing- Gossip master. All media looking blurry with two images in them each- curious to know, but scared to check. My finger clicked to one and there pooped out a picture of a lady leaning towards Dante’s shoulder in the picture.T
DANTE’S POV.“Don’t be scared! It’s me” I called out with my mumbled lips.More than what I can control, her hand slipped off earlier, leading to her hitting her head to the wall and slowly her eyelids closed.I wrapped her in my arms and began to blow air to her with my lips, “wake up Selena, it’s me Dante… don’t be scared it’s me” I whispered out in me like no fear was found. No words from her, but calmness was in my heart- she was unconscious.“You will be fine when you find your body sleeping in my bed” I whispered to her, as I walked out of her room, holding her in my arms like a child. One of the maids gasped seeing me carry Selena in my arms like a child.“Should I call for the family doctor?” the maid called out in a concerned toneI shook my head and looked at her Selena and looked back to the maid, “it’s mild and I want to take care of her personally. Get me water in a bowl, meet me in my room” I said to her.The maid ran as fast as she could. My eyes fixed on the door of my
MAYA POV.He said it and I was scared.“What did he say?” Selena asked.“He said MAYA, you are fired” I replied to Selena on the call. Selena laughed so hard.“Hey wait, why are you laughing? You know I did this for you right?” I asked her with my phone clinged to my earlobe.“Sorry, sorry” Selena apologized, but didn’t stop laughing underneath.“Wait! I want to know, but how did he happen? How were you able to calm him down” she asked. In the world of people who have a lot of friends, Selena has always been the only one my heart would click for. She housed me when I first came to the neighborhood and through her I got the job that put food on the table for both myself and my grandma- though not too much pay but, good enough to put food on the table for my grandmother and also put some clothes on her skin.- deep in thought until I heard her voice again through transition.“Hey, Maya are you still there?” selena asked.“Yes, and I am just thinking of how far you can go for those you
Serena POV“Lock her up in the guard room” was the last word I heard. The next thing was a hand laying me down on a table. My eyes slowly opened and I went after the hands. I pinned it with my sharp fingers, but I was too weak to dig it deep and bring out blood.“You are very weak” the strange face
Serena POV“If you remove that particular pipe from his body, then he will be dead” the voice sounded familiar, I looked back. Struck in disbelief, not again… it was him, the demon I planned on running away from. I got the shock of my life.Shivers went down my spine. My fingers ran off my father’
Serena POV“Do well to enjoy dining with the devil” he said and giggled.I scoffed and hit my hand on the wall so hard, slowly stepping forward towards him as he turned his back at me, “then what if I decide to cut off the tides with the devil” He sniffed and adjusted his hands in his pocket, “you
Serena POVThe wheel of the car stopped after making a cracking sound that nutted my brain and screwed my ears, making me fold my arms after covering my ears with my ear.“You asked for a flight with no words, and now here you are,” Dante said after locking off his seatbeat and looking at me with a
