Chapter Forty-Three

After pulling into her parking spot, she stared up at the red brick building, her nerves spinning crazy figure-eights in the pit of her stomach. Damien didn’t text her back after she acknowledged what he told her to do, which made her even more nervous. Something had happened; she just knew it. What, however, she had no clue.

Slipping out of her vehicle and into the Florida humidity, she locked her car and slung her purse over her shoulder. He had told her to go straight to his apartment, so that’s what she did, each step feeling like her sandals were bricks weighing her down. By the time she knocked on Damien’s door, she wanted to throw up again.

However, Damien wasn’t the one who answered the door. Holly did.
