Erin drifted her gaze to the hand around her ankle and grunted, rapidly risking a glance at the approaching wolves-they seemed like a battalion of armies racing into a battlefield and her heartbeat sped even faster than them. She needed to transform into her shroud so she could flee the territory.
The sharp pain in her ankle brought her attention back to the naked man clasping her ankle with all his might."Let go of me, bastard!" She snapped, throwing a kick in the air to free herself from his shackle-like hold, but he didn't budge. Instead, he growled, his eyes rapidly turning into two peas of midnight blue, burning with hatred. Hair slowly germinated on his skin, and his fingers turned to claws, sinking into her flesh, causing immense pain to her body-she shrieked, vibrating and taking in shaky breathsErin used her free leg to kick him in the face, and once he released her ankle and fell on his back, she spun. With pain crippling her left leg, she transformed into a bat and attempted to fly, but something happened... A large hand grabbed her wing and drew it back to the ground. She lost balance, flapping the free wing with her heart in her throat.Instantly, he rose to his feet and shoved her under his giant paws, making sure to crush that particular wing. Erin screeched, changing back to her human form with her eyes tightly shut as she screamed, feeling all the air leave her lungs. His heavy foot marched her chest down, and she struggled to push him off her as a tear slid down her cheek. With an axe raised to the sky, Erin heard his muscles ripple from over his furry body, and her eyes widened in silent shock as her life flashed in front of her-he was going to behead her. She breathed heavily, thoughts spiralling out of control as she searched her head for what to do.Her vampire form came out, and she aimed for his eyes, spitting blood into them. He released the axe, letting it fall down his back to hit Erin in the thighs. He grabbed his eyes and stumbled away from her body, whimpering like a lost puppy. She jumped to her feet, watching him go blind slowly before she beheaded him, doing to him what he wanted to do to her.Not having much time to run from the angry wolves looming toward her, she tried to convert into her shroud, but she couldn't. He had wounded her deeply. She is a vampire. She was meant to heal quickly, but she wasn't - she frowned, pivoting on her heels but limping. She groaned, blood streaming out of her ankles every distance she covered.A shiver ran down her spine as she ran aimlessly into the village, making her way past trees and bushes. The sirens went off, and she could hear the closing of doors and windows. Wolves howled, occasionally mixing it with loud angry growls from a reasonable distance behind her. Erin ran as fast as her little feet could, and they turned sore. She trampled on thorns and they stung badly but she had to keep moving. The wind threw her hair in messy arrays as she ran fast, her wounded leg slowing her down. Amidst the dark forest, a big wolf jumped on her and grabbed her neck. Erin inhaled sharply, scratching his hand with her nails in a bid to free herself, but his grip tightened, closing in on her windpipes. She wheezed, feeling the welled-up tears burning the brim of her eyes.He spoke, but her mind was too fuzzy to focus on his words. She couldn't piece them together. Her vision blurred, and she could feel droplets of his saliva on her face. Instantly, he plunged her hard into the ground, and the pain spider-webbed her back. She arched, feeling stabbing pains in her joints as he settled his weight on her.Her eyes fluttered shut, and her body became numb to his tortures. Suddenly, she heard a thud from a distance, and she felt him lift himself off of her. She peeled her eyes open and saw two beasts fighting themselves. Too weak, she shut her eyes, already accepting her fate. At least, she saved her sister.Time slowed down, and she could hear nothing but her heartbeat. Unexpectedly, she felt something huge, lifting her off the ground. Her body sank into his arms, and she felt the hair prick against her skin but not too harshly. Adrenaline pumped fear into her blood, and she snapped her eyes open, doing the first thing her brain instructed her to do-she bit him, and he flung her small frame into the hardback of the treeErin growled, feeling a sharp pain in her stomach and she applied pressure on it as she propped herself up and tried to stand but her legs wobbled like jelly so she sat with her back against the tree, nursing her throbbing stomach and flashing her fangs in a bid to protect herself."I'm not going to hurt you." He held up his hands in surrender with softness in his voice. "I'm here to help, or they'll kill you."Erin's body vibrated in fear, and her heart ceased to beat for a minute at the familiar lilt in his voice. She swallowed hard, shrugging every other thought that she didn't have to do with her escaping, but for a beast so scary, he had a calming voice. She hissed like a snake, wearing her regalia of defence.Like a predator, she watched as he morphed into his human form, and she struggled to not glance below his naked waist. Quickly, he picked up a leaf and shielded his groin. She grunted, "What did he need to cover when she had seen enough naked men of different shapes and sizes since the night began?"He moved forward, and her heart leapt. She tried to push out her blades, but she couldn't. Her eyes trailed up his nude chest, and their eyes locked on like magnet. Erin froze because that one look snatched her soul, taking her down memory lane. Brief images of his face etched with a sweet smile flashed in her head, and she blinked rapidly, hearing loud echoes of her thumping heart.Darcy? But I saw you die. Erin thought to herself.Impossible. She thought with a slight shake of her head in disbelief that he was the one here. She gulped, thrusting out her tongue to moisten her swollen and wounded lips-they stung and she suppressed a shudder as she managed to rise to her feet. Why wasn't she healing? His bottle-green eyes held concern in them as he occasionally parted and connected his lips that were gracefully seated above a Greek nose. I thought I saw him die. She thought. Her throat dried up like a desert and she pushed down a ball of saliva that hurt the walls of her parched throat, and she disconnected her lips to say, "Darcy?""My-my name is Duncan." He stammered, confusion laced in his voice. "What is yours?""Erin." It came out like a whisper and her insides churned. The world did a three-sixty and so did Duncan. She placed her palm on the tree for support as her vision clouded and her knees buckled. Unexpectedly, her legs gave up and she fell into complete darkness. ****Erin snapped her eyes open in t
"Nothing." Lara composed herself and straightened her dress, pushing loose strands of hair into her bun as her eyes glittered with mischief.Duncan grunted, taking one last look at his room and making a mental note to fold the heap of clothes gushing out of his wardrobe. Well, his maid would do that anyway."What took you so long?" Lara asked, hands akimbo with her inquisitive eyes raking him from head to toe.Duncan threw his gaze to the deep cherry hallway and cleared his throat, feeling a tingly sensation on his skin as he felt like she could see what he had done. "I just got out of the shower." He lied, pinching his lips into a grim line and walking ahead of her. Noticing she wasn't trailing behind him, he glanced over his shoulder and saw her pushing her head into his room like a peeping tom."Lara!" He raised his voice a notch, scowling at her. She snapped her head in his direction and beamed. The elastic around her hair fell out and her ebony locks fell in waves down her bac
Erin Nightwind The moment she flew through her open window, she transformed back into her human form and pulled down the window to latch it. Having done that, she rested her elbows on the white sill and gazed into the sky, wondering what the unknown had in store for her. The time suddenly appeared in the sky and the cold breeze from her other open window frolicked around her buttocks, making her realize she was naked, bringing her out of the void her head had created–her eyes widened. She didn't have time to get tangled in her web of thoughts. She needed to be at the dining table."Thankfully, no one came to shut my window. How would I have explained the wounds that refused to heal, or how would I tell Father I had left the kingdom?" Erin asked no one in particular, swinging around and almost getting a heart attack when she met grey inquisitive eyes."Where have you been?" She pushed up her perfectly carved brows and tilted her head. "Hey, sis." Erin managed a shaky smile, crossing
"Duncan," She muttered under her breath, recalling his name with her eyes still fixed on the meat. "You haven't had anything since we started dinner." His voice sent chills down her spine, but not in a good way, dragging her out of her reverie. "Aren't you hungry?"Erin shrugged, refraining from taking her eyes higher to meet his face. Her stomach tied itself into knots and grumbled. "You are," He replied himself under his breath and pushed his leg so it could touch hers once again. Erin chanced a glance at his inquisitive honey browns, and a line formed over her brows disapprovingly at him. He returned to his meal, shoulders drooping in disappointment at her silence. She didn't want him, why didn't her parents get it?"Maybe I shouldn't have said what I said earlier knowing how much he meant to you," Mark stated, referring to their argument. "It's fine," Erin crisped. "What is wrong with you?" Lola nudged her ribs, and she swallowed a yelp, boring a hole into Lola's head. "I sa
Erin glanced around furtively, avoiding his gaze, using her hand to feel around the counter for something that would be of help to her. Maybe a dagger would do. "I-I don't know." She shook her head once again, and his hand fell off her chin. "How about I show you?" He slurred, looking dreamily below her nose and running a red tongue over his thin lips."What?" Erin frowned, grabbing an apple. He leaned in, biting his lips and leaving them slightly apart. The moment their lips were a whisper away, she shoved the apple at his mouth, and he paused mid-action."Have an apple." She rushed over her words as she stepped away from him and clutched her stomach. "I have to go, my stomach aches, ouch!" She spun and took hasty steps towards the door. "Wait," He called out to her, and she pulled up short at the doorway, shutting her eyes for a split second, "Could you show me to the restroom?" She stifled a groan and glanced over her shoulder, "Sure." She managed a small smile and led the w
DuncanThe pain stung his face, and the anger that burned in Erin's eyes a minute ago was now replaced with remorse as she held her hand to her chest. He winced, rubbing the affected area as they stood in utmost silence, watching each other. He had recalled her to be the girl he saved that night from his pack, but he wasn't expecting a thunderous slap like that."I'm sorry," she finally said, water brimming in her eyes as she took baby steps close to him and reached a hand to his face. "Here, let me see that.""It's fine." Duncan shook his head, moving back to avoid her touch in case it was another slap."No, let me see it." She spoke softly, and her voice reminded him of cymbals. He stood still, catching sight of her hand making its way up his cheek. She cupped it lightly, and once their skin touched, his heart pumped blood faster into his veins, and his mind was overwhelmed with flashes of a pair of eyes he always saw in his dreams. Her touch was calm and suiting, her palm delive
Duncan He groaned, holding his palm to his lips. His eyes widened at the red liquid that marred his fingers, and his face instantly turned red. He spared her a glance, noticing his blood all over her mouth. She poked out a red tongue and ran it over her bottom lip, licking it off. He did the same but instantly regretted it when the metallic taste of blood stabbed his taste buds. "Why did you do that?" His nostrils flared as he rushed over to the lake to wash his lips. "We are two different beings. I can not be your mate because drinking blood is how I survive." Her voice had no remorse in it. "I eat flesh sometimes, but I do not go around biting people's lip," Duncan scowled, kneeling beside the lake, waiting for his lip to heal but it was taking longer than usual. "Neither would a sane person kiss a stranger. What if I was a soul vampire?" Erin inquired, creasing her eyebrows into a frown. "Then I will be glad my mate took my soul." Duncan held a hand to his chest. There was
"What do you mean?" Egor and Duncan chorused. They briefly looked at each other, exchanging hate glares. "Follow me," she said, then took off, running in the direction of the woods. They followed her till they arrived at a tree. It seemed to be tainted with blood that slowly dribbled down the rough back. "A bleeding tree?" Egor inquired, and Hildegard rolled her eyes before shaking her head and going around the tree. "This." Hilda pointed at a naked man who lay in a pool of blood with his tongue sticking out of his mouth. Duncan frowned, thrown aback by the sight. The man's body looked pale like there wasn't a single ounce of blood in his veins. His eyes were rolled skyward, and they could see only his scleras, no iris. "What happened to him?" Duncan asked with both his eyes narrowed at the white body. "Looks like his soul was sucked out or something.""Yes," Hilda began, stooping down to place two fingers on his neck for a pulse, saying, "There's nothing, and this is not all."
