“Why are you grinning so much today while we all are in grief regarding today’s tough paper?” I heard the question from my side making me turn away from the sun and cut my thoughts completely.
“Today was our last exam.” I said as a matter of fact staring at my friend.
“And?” she asked, raising her eyebrow.
“We finished our college.” I said and my grin got its place over my face again just thinking about the fact.
“And?” she asked showing her impatience in her tone.
“And, there is no other reason for my parents to stop her to call her son home to get me married.” I replied and sighed just thinking about having a chance to meet him finally.
“Oh God! I just can’t believe this.” We both heard a new voice and turned to see my enemy sitting behind us on the floor of our college grounds.
“What is your problem, Rupa?” I asked frowning.
“My problem is your naiveness, Vani.” She replied frowning back.
“What do you mean?” I asked even though I would turn away and just continue my happy thoughts.
“Did you forget that he is studying in the city and that too higher studies? And not only that, but also his stay in the city for many years, except for the holidays?” She asked shaking her head.
“If you forgot, we are still not writing our exam. So, you can come to the point without going in circles like our answers.” I said fuming at her.
“Fine! Do you really think he would choose a village girl over someone more perfect for him to get along with?” She asked raising her eyebrow.
“Don’t mind her!” My friend said, tugging my hand, but my whole concentration is over the girl before me.
“He will chose me over everyone. I am not a secret from him and he knows that he is going to marry me. I can even bet that I am very special for him like he is for me.” I said with a smirk to show her that her words didn’t effect me.
“Really? How many years has it been since you talked to him?” She asked, still not getting a hint that I will not fall for her words.
“I need not talk to him. I have someone who does that in a more special way. And I will talk to him soon when he comes here.” I said shrugging.
“You know in your heart that there will be problems with this marriage, Vani.” She said shaking her head.
“If there is, then I know how to solve it. Look at your own life without minding others.” I said, glaring at her before standing up and walked away ignoring the shouts from my friends.
After a few minutes, I finally got my anger in control, but saw that I am very far away from the college. I should go back and wait for my transport along with others.
However, I glanced at my watch and saw that it is past that time and I have taken a shortcut. I shook my head and continued to walk knowing well I have missed it.
I don’t know what is her problem, but she is always behind me saying he will never choose me. I will not let her words affect me again and there is no way for them to affect me as I may never see her again.
Now, I should start thinking how to control my emotions. I can’t just get up and walk away whenever I feel any kind of emotion, right?
“Aunty!” I shouted, entering the only beautiful house in the lane and continued to walk inside feeling my legs trembling with all the walking.
“Vani! What happened to you?” Aunty asked the moment I stepped inside her house.
“I… I got angry.” I replied, scratching my forehead and plopped on the floor before forwarding my legs.
“How many times will you walk from college like this? Do you always forget that your college is in another village?” She started asking in a way, scolding before walking into the kitchen and returned with a glass of water.
“You don’t know what was Rupa saying, Aunty.” I mumbled accepting the glass and drank the whole glass.
“I am glad that your college is over. Otherwise, I would have to wait near the door, unlocking it everyday thinking you may anytime walk inside with your legs hurting.” She said shaking her head.
“I didn’t do it recently.” I said, defending myself to which she stared at me with a knowing look.
“It was just last week and I wrote my exam really well that day.” I added, but sighed, knowing well I can’t say anything to change her mind as she knows everything.
“I am just thinking how will my son bear you.” She said and I frowned before looking down at my hands.
“But I know he can’t get anyone precious like you.” She immediately added making me grin at her.
“Will you call him to come here, Aunty?” I asked holding her hand.
“Yes! I will call him in a few days.” She replied nodding.
“Why after a few days?” I asked her frowning.
“I already talked to him today. Weekly once, remember?” she asked and I nodded sighing before placing my head on her shoulder.
“My legs are paining too much. Tell me any incident from his childhood, Aunty.” I said closing my eyes.
“Did you tell your parents that you will be here?” she asked glancing at the clock.
“No!” I said, moving my head near the door and took a deep breath.
“Mom! Dad! I am going to stay with Aunty for some more time.” I shouted at the top of my voice and moved my head again to her shoulder.
“I think there will hear it.” I added nodding to myself.
“I think even my son would have heard it even staying so many kilometers away, then why can’t your parents living in the house beside mine.” She said chuckling and started saying another beautiful incident from his childhood which I want to memorize with my every breath.
I just can’t wait to meet him and tell him how much I love him during all these few years and ask him whether he likes me or not and get the reply to my face instead from Aunty for a change.
I drifted off into sleep smiling with her still talking and caressing my hair. When will these few days finish?
*Rakesh Pov*I frowned looking at the caller ID and sighed before picking it up asking, “What is it, Mom?”“Why didn’t you come home for the past one month? I know your Dad is angry at you but he still wants to see you at home.” She asked while I rubbed my forehead.“Kamal’s Mom passed away two days back and right now I am at Kamal’s village.” I replied and she paused hearing that news.“Pass my condolence to him and until when will you stay there?” She asked while I nodded at Vani who walked towards me.“I packed my things and let me know when we are leaving.” Vani said looking at me and I turned to show her my Bluetooth speaker, and her eyes widened seeing that.“I am so sorry!” she whispered and started stepping back and tried to not make any noise.I chuckled at her action saying, “Don’t worry! I will tell Kamal that you are ready to leave with us.”She nodded walking towards her house and I sighed before sitting on the cement bench outside Kamal’s house.“Who is that?” Mom asked
*David Pov*As we continued to tease Kamal, he shouted at us and it just made us laugh more. A voice joined us and I turned to see Pallavi smiling at Kamal while asking him why is he shouting at Girish while my smile slipped. She is the girl I have liked for so many months already but her eyes always search for Kamal and stay on him without any change no matter how he treats her as just a normal friend.“Ask them, Pallavi.” Kamal replied, and trying to calm himself down.“It is just that we ordered this specially today for a special reason.” I said when she suddenly looked at me and realized I didn’t tell her properly at all.“Today, his fiancé had the same breakfast as per his mom.” Rakesh explained bluntly.“So, today was the day of the week when your mom calls you and gives you live feed of that’s girl’s life?” Pallavi asked chuckling.“You too, Pallavi?” Kamal asked her still with a normal expression.“Come on! It is fun to talk about it. It is not like you are going to marry her.
*Girish Pov*“Why are you both walking so slowly?” I asked frowning at the two interns following me and they didn’t even stand properly to answer me.“Shall I start a quiz as you both seem to be bored with the rounds?” my words immediately made them stand straight.“No need to do that, Dr. Girish. We are completely fine but we are just worried that you still didn’t have lunch yet.” One of them said smiling at me and immediately gestured behind me.“Talking about lunch, we are actually close to the canteen. Why don’t you get some energy by having something to eat, Dr. Girish?” she continued while the other intern nodded with a polite smile.“You both dare to act before me. Let me start the quiz then.” Saying that I turned around to continue to walk passing the canteen only to stop suddenly which made the two people behind me nearly hit my back with their bodies but they stopped themselves.“What happened, Dr. Girish? Suddenly starting to feel hungry after seeing the canteen?” I turned
*Girish Pov*After giving me that nod, she got onto the bus and I continued to stand there to wait until the bus leaves the bus stand. However, I didn’t expect her to stare at me without looking away even after the bus started moving.“All the best!” I shouted and she just smiled at me while I bus drove away.“Damn!” I mumbled to myself feeling surprised to get attracted to someone like this.I need to get to know her better and get her to know me better. With that thought, I took an auto to return to the hospital and found that they are deciding to get Aunty discharged.I froze realizing what this means as the doctor allows a critically ill patient only when… I shook my head and reached over Vani who glanced at me with a confused expression.“She got into the bus and I waited until it drove away.” I explained and her confused expression relaxed after hearing that.“Thank you so much!” she whispered and I shook my head before walking towards my friends as they are discussing on going
*Rupa Pov*I sat on the ground feeling panic after the way I wrote the paper. It was so tough and I tried my best to write each and every answer but I still missed a few. What should I do now? How can I achieve anything if I don’t get good marks? What if I had to stay in this village and get married to the person my parents bring because of having no option to leave this village and get an opportunity to change my life.“Why are you grinning so much today while we all are in grief regarding today’s tough paper?” I heard someone saying and I felt relieved thinking maybe if everyone didn’t write it properly then it could be fine.I continued to hear a conversation but my mind is on a run thinking maybe it will be fine and I need not feel low.But those thoughts got cut off when I realized no one in the city will ask me whether the paper is tough or how much everyone else scored. I need to fight more already because of coming from a village and now with these poor marks my chances will g
*Kamal Pov*“You both get out of the house right now.” That’s what we heard when we reached the already opened door of a house belonging to Vani’s cousin.I glanced at Vani with a questioning look and she just chuckled before gesturing me to enter the house as it’s the most common thing to hear that.“Did we come at the wrong time?” I whispered not wishing to enter a house where an internal fight is going on.“Don’t worry! Let’s go inside and save two people.” Saying that she dragged me inside and held Sharu’s hand with her other hand. When we entered the house, I found two people sitting on the couch in silence and we can hear sounds from the kitchen.“Didn’t I ask both of you to leave the house?” I glanced up to find a woman walking out of the kitchen and glaring at the couch.“Satvi! We both really wanted to help you both but he kept on changing the menu to his wife’s taste and I want to add your favorites and in the end, we prepared all those ingredients.” Rohan pointed out and I
