Chapter 6 – The Hallway Trap

The rear hallway of the club pulsed with muted red light and the muffled bass thumping of the main floor. It was tight, bordered by peeling paint and the reek of old perfume—choking, intimate.

Sera walked with her head down, hoodie half-zipped, heels clicking against tile. Her shift had just ended. She was tired, drained, her mind spinning from the last few nights.

More gifts.

More notes.

More glances from the shadows.

She hadn't seen him tonight.

*Good.*

But just as she got to the staff door, she felt it again.

That *pull*.

The dense pressure of eyes upon her.

She stopped.

Her breath caught as the air behind her altered—denser now, electric, humming.

And then—

"Leaving without saying goodnight, *bella*?"

Sera turned.

Valerio.

He stepped out of the shadows like he'd been sliced from them. All black suit, open collar, his shirt stretched just tight enough to hint at tattoos and sin.

She swallowed, hard.

The hallway suddenly felt like a trap. Like a cage with velvet walls and gold locks.

"I didn't know you were here," she said, voice low.

His mouth moved into a slow, dangerous smile.

"That's the point."

She backed up, but her back struck the wall.

He didn't touch her.

Didn't need to.

He just stalked forward, one slow, deliberate step at a time, until he was a breath away. His scent washed over her—leather, smoke, spice, and danger. Her knees softened before she could stop them.

He placed one hand flat on the wall beside her head.

The other followed shortly.

Trapping her.

Caging her.

But… not touching.

Her gaze lifted to his, defiant despite the tempest in her breast.

"What do you want, Moretti?"

His gaze dropped to her lips. "You. Dripping. Shaking. Moaning my name like it's the only word you know."

Sera's breath hitched.

Her thighs snapped shut on reflex, the raw want in his voice sending a spark straight to her sex.

"You're disgusting," she whispered.

He smiled more.

"No. I'm honest."

His voice dipped, darkened, until it was like silk wrapping around her.

"Every time you get up on that stage, I'm sitting there wondering what your pussy tastes like. If it's as sweet as you look when you're pretending you don't see me."

Her face burned.

Go to hell," she spat.

He leaned in—*close*, so close his mouth brushed the curve of her ear without touching.

"Oh, sweetheart… if you had any notion the things I'd love to do to you…" His mouth grazed her skin. "You'd be *begging* me to take you there."

Her eyelids fluttered closed.

God.

He wasn't even touching her and her whole body *hurt*.

You think you're in control," she said unsteadily, making herself open her eyes. "But I see right through you."

He leaned his head a little to the side, interested.

"Oh?"

"You're accustomed to having women fall at your feet. And it's killing you that I won't."

He laughed low, and the vibrations of it rippled through her belly.

You think I need you to fall at my feet?" His voice dipped to a whisper. "No, *piccola.* I need you to struggle. I need to *destroy* that defiance… one dirty, shattered moan at a time."

A shudder tore through her body.

She tried to step around him.

He moved with her—still not touching, still boxing her in with nothing but presence.

"Let me go."

His eyes locked on hers, heat and menace sparking behind them.

"I could," he whispered. "But where's the fun in that?"

He leaned in again, this time barely brushing his lips against her ear.

"I'm going to keep whispering filth into your pretty little head until it's the only thing you think about. Until you *want* me to touch you. Until you *need* it."

"Not gonna happen," she breathed.

He smiled.

It was slow, patient, cruelly confident.

"Everyone breaks. Especially the ones who say they won't."

And then, just like that, he stepped back.

The absence of his body was a slap of cold air.

Her knees nearly buckled, but she stayed upright, barely.

Valerio eyed her over one last time, eyes lingering on her heaving chest, the flush of heat in her cheeks.

"Goodnight, Sera."

He walked away, leaving her standing in that narrow corridor with nothing but her racing heart, trembling limbs… and a wet heat between her thighs that belied every word her mouth had uttered.

She hated him.

She wanted him.

And that scared her more than anything on this earth.

  • Velvet Chains   Chapter 138 – Beneath the Crimson Vow

The glow of dawn bled through the blackout curtains, but neither Sera nor Valerio moved from the tangled sheets. The air was thick with the weight of things unsaid, with the fading pulse of what had happened between them—a kind of surrender that went deeper than skin.Sera stirred first. Her wrists ached from where his tie had held her last night, a soft bite of pressure that still lingered like a brand. She looked at the man sleeping beside her—his chest rising slow, lips slightly parted, a furrow still etched between his brows even in rest. Valerio Thorne. Her tormentor. Her protector. Her ruin. And her only salvation. She slid out of bed quietly, padding to the bathroom. The moment the door clicked shut, Valerio’s eyes opened. He wasn’t a man who slept through silence. Especially not now.He sat up, running a hand through his unruly dark hair, tension already creeping back into his shoulders like a second skin. Last night had been a release, yes—but it had also been a vow. He’d cla

The scent of smoke clung to Sera’s skin as they returned from the rooftop chaos. Her hands trembled slightly, hidden in the pockets of Valerio’s leather coat. The compound was eerily silent when they arrived. Word hadn’t spread yet about Lucia’s betrayal—or her plea for redemption.Sera had barely crossed the threshold of their room when Valerio locked the door behind them. His presence was suffocating in the best way, heat rippling off him like waves in a storm.“We’re going to find the boy,” he said, his voice low, sharp with purpose. “If Cael is using children as pawns now, he’s more desperate than I thought.”Sera nodded, pulling the coat tighter around herself.Valerio stepped closer, his eyes dark and unreadable. “You saw what I almost did to her.”“Yes,” Sera said. “But you didn’t. That matters.”A long silence stretched between them, the kind that buzzed beneath the skin. Then Valerio stepped forward, cupping her face. His thumb brushed her cheekbone, as if grounding himself i

The drive back from the Mirage Casino was silent, tension wrapped around them like smoke. Valerio kept one hand on the wheel, the other on his gun, knuckles white. Sera sat beside him, eyes fixed on the rain-slicked streets as Eros City blurred past the windows. Her pulse hadn't slowed since the ambush. Neither had his. They said nothing until they reached the estate.Valerio’s private compound was on full lockdown—armed guards doubled at the gates, surveillance drones sweeping the perimeter, and Matteo waiting by the front door, blood still on his sleeve."It was a setup," Matteo growled. "Cael Delacroix never came alone. He had two snipers on the east building. We didn’t even spot them."Valerio's jaw clenched. "We underestimated him. Never again."Sera followed them into the war room—a vast, windowless space below the main house with concrete walls, tactical maps, and screens showing every inch of the city.Valerio shed his coat, grabbed a bottle of scotch, and poured himself a gla

  • Velvet Chains   Chapter 135 – A Fire in the Shadows

Sera woke to the sound of rain pounding against the roof. Not the gentle kind, but a furious, sweeping storm that made the steel-walled safehouse groan under its weight. For a long moment, she lay there wrapped in Valerio’s arms, their bodies tangled under the sheets like two vines grown into each other. His chest rose and fell steadily. For once, he was completely at peace. Vulnerable. She studied him in the dim light filtering through the blinds—his strong jawline, the shadows beneath his eyes, the faint scar on his collarbone that always made her wonder how close he had come to death. And how many times he had dragged himself back from it.Her fingers trailed softly over his skin, memorizing him. She didn't know how long they’d have this quiet. With enemies creeping closer and betrayal inside their walls, peace felt borrowed—stolen, even.Valerio stirred, groaning low as he blinked awake. "You’re staring, angel.""I like watching you when you’re not trying to be the devil."He chuc

  • Velvet Chains   Chapter 134 - Blood in the Marble Halls

The Thorne estate was nothing short of a fortress—opulent and imposing. Marble floors gleamed beneath Sera’s feet as she followed Valerio through its endless hallways, each turn lit with golden sconces and guarded by statues that looked more like silent sentinels than art.But nothing could distract her from the storm swirling behind Valerio’s calm exterior. He was too quiet. Too still. They entered a conference room deeper in the estate—long glass table, walls lined with ancient weapons, a chandelier dripping crystal light overhead. Four men were already seated. All wore tailored suits, but their expressions were taut with unease."They've been waiting," Valerio said to Sera, gently brushing his knuckles against her arm before nodding toward the adjoining sitting room. "You can wait there. I won’t be long."She didn’t argue, but her eyes lingered on him.Valerio leaned down, voice low. "I need you close, but I don’t want you hearing this. It might change how you see me."Her breath h

  • Velvet Chains   Chapter 133 – Bloodlines and Vows

The morning sun cast golden slants across the silk sheets as Sera woke slowly, the scent of Valerio’s skin still clinging to her like a second soul. For once, the mansion felt quiet—not with absence, but anticipation. The kind that made the air buzz beneath the surface.Today, everything would change.Again.Sera swung her legs out of the bed and stepped onto the warm marble floor of the panic room, now familiar in its luxurious claustrophobia. She hadn’t meant to sleep here. But Valerio hadn’t left her side. His promise last night still echoed in her ears—“For more than a little while, angel.”A soft knock came at the secure door.It was Navarro.“Boss says it’s time,” he said simply, voice respectful. She nodded once, her mind already shifting into battle-mode.She showered quickly, letting the heat melt away her stiffness. When she emerged, a sleek black dress awaited her—tailored, dangerous, elegant. It had been custom-fitted, its neckline designed like a dagger’s curve, the slit
