Chapter 7

Donelle shuddered. Of course, she remembered that pretty face... Her whole body was engulfed in a chilling sensation.

“Don’t be nervous,” Ember said as she put her hands gently on Donelle’s shoulders, rubbing them. “Do you know what will happen if you sell this piece of real estate without authorization?”

Ember had already discovered the truth behind Robin’s death! It turned out that Donelle had been poisoning Robin slowly, in order to replace her!

When Donelle heard what Ember said, her expression froze as she shuddered in her heels.

“I’m so sorry, Ember... Oh no, I mean Ms. Ember. I-I didn’t know that Robin left a will.”

“Is that so? Since you like to be successful and you don’t mind raking in blood money, I suppose I can grant your wish.”

Ember signaled her security force, and they started stacking up chairs. Looking at the chairs, Donelle was terrified.

“Get up there.”

Donelle wanted to cry. “Thank you for the offer, Ms. Ember. But I... I don’t think there’s a need for this.”

“Get up there.”

Ember said again calmly.

“I...”

“She asked you to stand on the chairs, then you will stand on the chairs. Otherwise, you’re making yourself an enemy of the Lane family.”

Caleb’s tone was relaxed as he waved his hand at Donelle, with a cigarette lit in between his fingers.

Donelle was frightened after she saw Caleb’s expression.

She had no choice but to climb and stand on the stack of swaying chairs.

It was quite difficult to maintain the balance at such a height, so Donelle chose to crouch at the top to control her center of gravity.

“Don’t you understand what I’m saying? I’m telling you to stand.”

Ember had lost all patience and kicked the chair stacked in the middle.

Thump! Rumble!

Donelle immediately fell from the top, and started bleeding from her head. The children all burst into laughter. They had all dreamed of seeing the villain principal getting a dose of her own medicine.

Everyone else screamed. Even Caleb was shocked at how brutal Ember was.

But he was more curious about what Ember had gone through the past four years to become like this.

“You better not do anything under my watch in my territory. Otherwise, you’ll end up like Donelle today!”

Ember wanted all of them to know that the weakling in the past no longer existed.

Ember went back to find Avery, but the little one had already disappeared.

Penelope was shocked by what she had just seen. She wanted to move away, but she suddenly felt something was tripping her. In the next moment, she fell flat on the floor.

It was pathetic.

Avery stuck his tongue out at Penelope. When no one was paying attention, he had tied a heavy rock onto her ankle.

“Ah!”

Penelope let out a howl of pain, even though her makeup was ruined by her tears. The pain was enough to make her want to fall unconscious.

She had never experienced something like this.

Ember glanced at Penelope who was on the ground, unable to move. Avery was certainly quite ruthless. From the sound alone, Penelope’s ankle must be fractured.

At this time, Ember’s phone rang. It was Lugh.

“Ember, I’m here to pick you up.”

Ember then made the final announcement. “Saint Lucia will continue operating under my management. Without my acknowledgment, no one can touch this land!”

Caleb wanted to speak to Ember as she was about to leave, but she did not even spare him a glance and simply walked past him.

Following Ember, Avery removed his sunglasses. The cold smile on his face was like the one that Caleb had. He got into Lugh’s car as well.

When Caleb saw Avery, he could feel his very being shaking in excitement.

Was the son he had with Ember?

That boy looked so much like him!

The car engine let out a rumble and sped off.

The farce was finally over.

“Ember, are you alright?”

“Of course.”

Ember was enjoying every single moment when she was humiliating her enemy. But when she remembered Caleb’s face, her heart ached and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

Avery could feel his mom’s distress, but said nothing and simply held her hand.

It had been four years… But Ember still could not forget about Caleb.

The moment Ember appeared, Caleb’s mind could no longer include anyone. There was only one thought in his mind.

To make Ember stay.

To ask her what happened during the last four years. How could she leave for so long?

When he saw Ember left, he instinctively wanted to chase after her.

But before he could even move, a voice cut his thoughts off.

“Caleb, my foot hurts.”

Penelope looked at Caleb with tears in her eyes. She gritted her teeth, with sweat making her hair wet.

Her pitiful appearance made it hard for anyone to ignore her suffering.
