Chapter 6

Saint Lucia Convent, Southfeld. 4.30 PM.

Penelope was wearing her tailored dress, putting up her make-up in the Rolls-Royce. Next to her was Saint Lucia’s assistant principal Donelle.

“You’ve really helped a lot by signing the contract today, Ms. Penelope. I wanted to ask you something though...”

Donelle was like a dog, wagging its tail trying to make Penelope happy.

Penelope couldn’t even bother to look at her as she pursed her red lips.

“What is it?”

“You bought the land so you can build buildings and get the stock prices up. What will you do with the orphans?”

Donelle was getting a headache. Officially speaking, she had to send the orphans to other orphanages. The paperwork was quite complex.

“Hah. Ms. Donelle, what kind of question is that?” Penelope closed her foldable makeup mirror.

“Just send them off as apprentices. If you think that’s too troublesome, just sell them off to couples without any children in the mountains or something. You can even earn some pocket money.”

Donelle had been waiting for that!

“Of course! Thanks for the suggestions!”

What did the orphans do to deserve this?

Ember had long suspected that two snakes were up to no good. As such, she had no choice but to return to Haverhill City where she knew she would have endless problems.

“Why isn’t Caleb here yet?”

Penelope frowned. Ever since Ember left, Caleb didn’t seem to care about her as much as he did in the past.

“He said that he’ll be a little late.”

The driver answered carefully.

Penelope looked at the reporters waiting outside. As the buyer, she chose to enter first.

Countless flashes flashed on Penelope’s face, making her face with heavy makeup look spirited and full of life.

From then onward, she could also count herself among the scions who had their own businesses!

Everyone that was rich and important was present, thanks to her father’s influence.

The hall was beautifully decorated as the children happily ran around as if it was Christmas, but they didn’t know just what kind of fate awaited them.

“Let’s now invite Ms. Penelope to cut the ribbon!” Donelle grabbed the emcee’s mic and said loudly.

Everyone clapped as Penelope walked up the stage with a brilliant smile.

That was the moment that belonged to her solely.

“3... 2...”

Before Donelle could finish, a cold female voice cut them all off.

“You’re quite talented, Ms. Penelope. Not only do you steal another woman’s husband, but you’re even willing to spend money to buy a piece of land that could never be yours.”

A voice suddenly rang, and the entire place went silent.

There was a thunderstorm outside, and a bolt of lightning flashed, and the light revealed the face of the woman.

Ember clapped with a faint smile on her face. She walked right into the hall wearing a pair of heels under those revealing long legs of hers.

Everyone’s eyes were immediately on Ember.

The beauty’s appearance astonished everyone who was there as she appeared unannounced.

She looked straight toward Penelope, who was originally filled with anticipation. Her face quickly became pale as a ghost.

Penelope gave herself a harsh pinch, trying to see if this was a dream.

Ember had returned!

She came back in the end!

“Ah!”

There was a scream as Ember whipped the umbrella toward Penelope’s direction as she closed it, and she was immediately drenched in rainwater.

Even Donelle next to her wasn’t spared.

“Ember! What are you doing?!”

Ever since Ember had left Haverhill City, Penelope had been having nightmares.

She could feel the chills down her spine. The way Ember looked at her was like a wolf staring at its prey.

Just by the pressure Ember was giving off, Penelope could already see how badly she was going to lose in the future.

“Ms. Ember, what did I do wrong? Please tell me, I can change! It’s absurd for you to do this to me without any reason.”

Not only did Penelope control her anger, but she also tried to garner the people’s compassion and pity instead. How manipulative.

Ember didn’t want to play a game of words with those there, so she simply opened the will in her hand.

It was the proof that the previous principal, Robin, had given Saint Lucia Convent’s land and assets to Ember. It even had the school’s official seal!

“What?!”

The entire hall was thrown into chaos as Penelope instantly became the target of hot debates.

The daughter of the Ferguson family had bought land that was in dispute?! In the business world, it was akin to one destroying their own future.

Penelope quickly tried to explain, but words were useless at this time.

She wanted to spend less money, but she fell into a trap instead.

Donelle was so shocked that she quickly stood up and wanted to run away, but only then did she realize that Ember’s security forces had already controlled the hall.

“Ember.”

It was that familiar and attractive voice again. She could even feel the affection within it materializing.

Ember knew that voice better than anyone!

Caleb’s figure appeared in the hall, and Penelope quickly pitifully jumped into Caleb’s arms.

Even if she wanted to deal with her, Ember had to show face to who she belonged to, right?

Everyone was enjoying the show to the fullest. Now that the main character had shown up, everyone was at the edge of their seat, waiting for the climax to unfold.

“When did you return?”

Caleb couldn’t believe his own eyes the moment he entered those doors.

Four years ago, that woman had left without a word. He had spent a lot of time to find her.

But today, the woman that he had been dreaming of was standing high and mighty on the stage. She was like a goddess who was looking down on her mortal subjects.

“I have nothing to do with you anymore. Right, before I left, I did promise you one thing,” Ember said as she glanced at Caleb.

“And that is to get a divorce. It’s my fault for making things so difficult for the dear homewrecker Ms. Penelope.”

She had imagined countless times the moment she once again met Caleb. None of them included her forgiving the man who had made her heart bleed so much.

The other objective she had once she returned to Haverhill City was to free herself of anything that had to do with Caleb.

To finalize her divorce.

The entire hall was thrown into an uproar again.

Penelope felt that she had just been slapped across the face. She wanted to say something, but she was at a loss for words.

“Uh... I...”

Caleb pushed Penelope, who was crying in his arms, away. He wanted to speak to Ember some more. However, she chose to ignore him.

If it were four years ago, Ember would always find a chance to speak with him. But she had changed so much... She had become so cold, so heartless!

“Do you still remember me, Ms. Donelle?”
