Ximena sat at the edge of the hospital bed, across from her, Miguel leaned against the wall. He looked like he hadn’t slept enough lately.

Ximena kept gazing at him, She didn’t know what to say. Miguel didn't want to say anything either.

“How’s your arm?” He asked. Finally breaking the silence.

Ximena glanced at her hand. “It’s fine. Just a graze. Nothing serious.”

Miguel sighed “You scared me.”

He walked closer to the bed. “If I had arrived five minutes later—”

“But you didn’t,” she cut in, flat tone. “You were there. It’s over.”

“I shouldn’t have let it get this far.” to stated.

“You didn’t ‘let’ anything happen, I walked into this life with my eyes open.” She stated.

Miguel looked at her, “You don’t have to carry all of it alone, Ximena.”

She gave a faint smile. “I’ve been carrying it alone for years, Miguel. It’s not new.”

His gaze dropped again.

They sat like that for a while. The door creaked open.

Ximena stood by the window in her apartment. She looked out at the city lights. The sound of cars driving far away made her feel a little less alone. The world outside kept moving. But inside, she felt stuck. Her phone buzzed on the kitchen counter. She looked down. It was Carlos. She opened his message.“Miguel just arrived at the mansion. Engagement starts in an hour.”I'mThe message was short. No feelings. Just facts.Ximena put the phone down slowly. The word “engagement” hit her hard. Miguel. Her ex-husband. The man who had kept her tied to a cold, empty marriage for three years. And now, he promised to marry Tania Roberto—the woman who had caused her so much pain. She breathed out slowly. It wasn’t just the ceremony she was scared of. It was everything that came with it—the fake smiles, the gossip, the silent fights hidden behind fancy glasses.Ximena walked to the mirror. She looked at herself carefully. Her blonde hair was tied back loosely. A few strands hung down softly. He

CHAPTER 103The Antonio penthouse was quiet,Ximena stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, one hand resting lightly on the glass, the other holding a half-full wine glass. She hadn’t been able to stop thinking about the look on Miguel’s face at the gallery. That quiet pain behind his words. The way he’d said, “I see it now.”You always had good timing, Miguel. It's always too late.A soft knock echoed through the space.Ximena turned slowly, half-expecting Rafael, but it was Renata—the penthouse concierge—peeking in with an apologetic expression.“Ma’am, I know you don’t like unannounced guests, but... there’s a woman downstairs. She says she’s your cousin. From Scent City?”Ximena blinked. “Cousin?”“She’s... persistent.”Her brows furrowed, trying to remember who it could be. She hadn’t spoken to anyone from the orphanage in years. Most of the girls she'd grown up with had scattered after eighteen. Some were unreachable.Still, curiosity won.“Send her up.”The elevator doors slid o

Ximena stood at her table the next morning, brushing her hair slowly. She had barely slept the night before. Too many thoughts clouded her head. The mirror reflected a woman who didn’t look tired, even if she felt it. She had long ago learned to carry exhaustion like perfume—always present but never obvious. Her phone buzzed again on the nightstand. She glanced at it, saw the name.Miguel.Second message in twelve hours. This one read:“Can we talk? I won’t take much of your time.”She locked the screen without replying. There were boundaries now.And Miguel had to learn to live with them—just like she had learned to live without him.Downstairs, Rafael was already in the living room, dressed casually for a weekend strategy meeting.“You didn’t sleep again,” he said without looking up from his tablet.“I did,” she lied.Rafael snorted. “Right. And I’m dating Enrique Iglesias.”She raised an eyebrow, amused despite herself. “He’s not your type.”“No,” Rafael said dramatically. “He’s ev

Ximena sat in the corner of the living room, They were preparing for war.“You ready?” Rafael asked, stepping in with two mugs of black coffee. His eyes were heavy, but alert.Ximena nodded, barely glancing up. “The documents are real. They’re signed by Tania, Arturo, and Dante. I’ve traced three fake export companies linked to Panama and Hong Kong, and all the registration IPs point back to the same damn law firm—one that’s handled Roberto family assets for years.”Miguel walked in from the hallway, phone pressed to his ear. “Yes. Tonight. Send the car to the press club, not the mansion,” he said to someone, then hung up. He looked straight at Ximena. “You’re going public.”She stiffened slightly. “There’s no other way.”He stepped closer. “You don’t have to do this alone.”“I’m not.” She motioned to Rafael and Carlos. “But make no mistake, Miguel. I’m the one they tried to destroy. I’ll be the one to end them.”Carlos walked in next, holding a USB. “Backup copies. Cloud. Offline dr

The rain hit the glass windows. It had been forty-eight hours since the explosive report Rafael uncovered—an offshore account in her name with a trail of forged documents so perfectly laid out, it could bury her alive if it ever saw the light of day.Ximena had known she was in the game with dangerous people, but she hadn't realized how deeply rooted the corruption was—or how far her enemies would go.Rafael barged into her office again, this time without a single cup of coffee. That alone set off alarm bells in her head.“I just got a call,” he said, voice barely above a whisper as he closed the door behind him. “The Financial Crimes Bureau is sending investigators to our offices by next week. Someone tipped them off anonymously. Guess what they’re looking for?”Ximena didn’t respond. She didn’t need to. Her name was already halfway into the fire.“They think you’re laundering money through a fake shipping company in Panama,” Rafael continued, flinging a file onto her desk. “And we b
