The door opened into a living room that looked like a stereotypical bachelor's place. Unwashed clothing strewn across the sofa set and empty beer cans stacked like a house of cards in the corner. Boxes with pizza crusts littered the corner table, but that wasn't the source of the stink.

The stray had killed someone here. There was no sign of the body, but the overpowering smell of blood and rotted flesh gave it away. He'd brought someone back to the apartment, killed the person and kept the bo

It was a bad move. A terrible display of dominance—and they both knew it. Amara yanked against his grip, trying to pull her arm free, but he didn't budge. Instead, he tugged her closer, towering over her. She let out a sharp breath, her chest heaving against the cotton of her top, which revealed more skin than it covered. Goddammit. “I said I was sorry,” he told her. “And I meant it.”Amara squared her shoulders and glared up into his face, ignoring the traitorous wave of heat that spiked through her veins at his proximity. Despite wanting to keep her thoughts from dire scenarios, she let her gaze glide along his profile. He was a solidly built man with a thick, muscled neck that alluded to much physical labor, and it excited her. Then there were his facial features—definite eye candy. His masculine yet slightly crooked nose made her wonder if it had been redesigned once or twice in his lifetime due to brawls. His hard jaw was set and determined, and he wore stubble as a moustache a

“Amara…”She let out a long sigh, as though his mere presence was an inconvenience. “Did you need something?” she asked, not bothering to turn around.Silas blinked. Wow. The fucking attitude was killing him. “I just came to get some water.”She paused, resting the heel of her hand on the counter, and shot a glance over her shoulder. “Well, I'm sure you know the glasses are in the cabinet above your head. Go ahead then.” Without waiting for a response, she turned back around and resumed her slicing on the wooden board.Silas didn't move from where he stood braced against the doorframe. “You’re ignoring me,” he said, “What I don't get is why.”Again, no answer. Only the sharp, scraping of her knife against the wood. She finished dicing the peppers, then grabbed the tomatoes and tossed them into the sink, turning on the tap with a harsh jerk of the handle to wash them.Silas straightened, folding his arms across his chest. “Did I do something wrong? All you have to do is tell me what it

She'd taken down her braids. It was the very first thing Silas noticed the second Amara stepped through the door. The braids and beads were gone, replaced by a crown of long, voluminous afro hair that framed her face and features perfectly. She was wearing high-waisted white trousers and a cropped African print top that exposed a smooth sliver of her midriff—and right there, glinting softly in the living room light, was a small metallic belly ring.Did she have that before? Silas thought, his eyes tracking the glint of steel against brown skin before he forced his gaze back up to her face. He must have missed it in the dark or she’d taken it off that evening, because there was no way in hell he would have overlooked something that ridiculously attractive and sexy. She was stunning. Gosh, he’d almost forgotten just how beautiful she was. For what seemed like a long moment, neither of them moved. The room fell silent as their eyes locked, and before Silas could find his voice, the rus

When they got back to the territory, Callum and Rebecca were out. The house was silent and Gideon hadn't waited up. He knew if anything had happened, they'd wake him up. Zack and Julian raced for the steps, jostling to be the first one up, bickering as they ran. Behind them was Silas, still pissed about being unable to find and kill the stray. They hit the top of the stairs and headed for Gideon’s room at the end of the hall. Before they could get there, the door creaked open.“Did you find him?” Gideon asked, a disembodied voice from the darkness. “We found where he was staying,” Silas replied, “He's —”“Did you kill him?”“Nah,” Silas said, “Too risky. But we will —”“Good. Tell me the rest in the morning,”The door closed. The three of them looked at each other, then Silas shrugged and headed back down the hall. “I'll just have to beat you to it tomorrow,” Zack said to Julian. Julian pounced on him, knocking him onto the floor. He stayed on top of him, pinning his arms to the f

Boxes with pizza crusts littered the corner table, but that wasn't the source of the stink. The stray had killed someone here. There was no sign of the body, but the overpowering smell of blood and rotted flesh gave it away. He'd brought someone back to the apartment, killed the person and kept the body around for a day or two before dumping the remains. Silas started in the main room, checking in closets and under furniture for any clue to the stray's identity. Although he didn't recognise the scent, he might be able to figure out who he was with a few hints. When he didn't find anything, Silas went to the bedroom where Julian was on the floor, looking under the bed. As he walked in, Julian pulled out a hank of hair with the scalp still attached, tossed it aside, and kept looking for somet

It was past twelve o'clock, and the streets of Oakhaven were deserted. Silas and Zack followed Julian's lead, since he was the one who had the scent, although he didn't have the exact place where the stray was. They had to find that out together.Changing forms was much like any other bodily function in that it came most easily when the body needed to do it. An uncontrolled werewolf underwent the transformation under certain primal triggers: when they were threatened, territorial panic, and when the internal cycle dictated the need during certain activities or when experiencing certain emotions. Before it happened, a werewolf could feel the symptoms: the restlessness, the itchy skin, the internal cramps and pangs, the overwhelming sensation that something needed to be done and the body and mind wouldn't rest until that need had been satisfied. The signals became as recognizable as the signs of hunger. They could put off dealing with it, but before long the body would take over and for
