You can do it.

“You ran into your sister’s fiance at the club?!”

I removed the phone from my ear as I heard the deafening scream from Hilda.

“Can you keep it low, please?” I hissed between smiles.

“So, what did you do? Did you tell him you are not his fiancé? What did he say?”

“Are you crazy? I dare not tell him that!”

“Why can’t you?”

I could already imagine the frown on her face.

Hilda is not like me, she would have told Daniel that she wasn’t Emerald if she was in my shoes.

Even if she was with me last night, she would have told him or popped it one way or the other.

“My family didn’t tell him I was in the country. They told him I was out of the country and would not even make it to the wedding.”

“Are you crazy? And you just sit still? I would have ruined her chances last night if I were you.”

“Why are you making a deal out of this? It’s not like attending the wedding is some big deal. I wouldn’t even attend if I was invited,” I rolled my eyes.

“You are so dense,” she hissed and I grinned.

“So, how is he? Handsome? Hot? Funny? Tell me!”

“Girl, I don’t know. That man is so mysterious!” I hissed.

“How?”

“This minute, he’s acting nice, the next minute, he’s being sarcastic, and another minute, he is being cold, commanding. I don’t know, and I don’t care.”

“You mean he showed you all these sides in that short period of time and you are falling for him?”

“Falling for who? Are you crazy? I don’t even care to think about him!” I defended myself.

“You need to not shout though. Did your family know you met that man?”

“No one saw me came in last night and I haven’t stepped out of my room this morning. And, I am not saying anything to them. I don’t want any misunderstandings,” I shook my head.

“Well, that’s true. What are you up to today? Let’s hang out.”

“I am meeting Aidan later today. Thank you,” I grinned and she hissed.

“Whatever, bye.”

**

After I ended the call, I rolled on my bed and hummed happily. The thought that I was going to meet my boyfriend after a couple of weeks was making me so happy and I could not wait.

Aidan and I had been dating for a year and a few weeks and our relationship was not known to my family.

My parents weren’t supportive of whatever I do so I knew it would be totally pointless introducing him to them.

Aidan was aware of the relationship I had with my family and he didn’t mind waiting. He promised to wait till I was ready to show him to them.

Apart from Hilda, he was the only person that has shown me so much love and support and it meant the whole world to me.

I yawned lazily and got out of bed. It’s time I had breakfast.

As I reached downstairs where I met my parents and then Emerald who was on call with someone, I murmured my greetings to them and headed to the kitchen.

“Y…yeah. Thank you so much for yesterday,” I heard Emerald say as I prepared to enter the kitchen.

“Sapphire!”

Hearing her scream my name which was so loud, I frowned my face and stepped backward.

“What is it?”

“Baby, what is wrong?” My mother asked.

“You met Logan Yesterday?” She asked furiously as she walked towards me.

“Logan?” I beaded my brows.

Wait, Daniel?

Shit!

“Oh, yes. I met him,” I answered.

As she stopped in front of me, she slapped me on the cheek which almost deafened me.

I widened my eyes and dropped my palm on my cheek.

“What the fuck?!” I screamed.

“Language, Sapphire,” my father cautioned.

“Why did you slap your sister?” he asked.

“She flirted with Logan!” she screamed and I opened my mouth agape.

“Are you crazy? Flirted with who?”

“What were you doing at the club? It's not like you, so why did you go there, flirt with him, and then, he brought you home? How dare you mess with what is mine?!”

“It is not my fault that you lied to ‘what is yours’ that you don't do parties and I had to pretend that I was you! You had already lied to him that I wasn't in the country! Would you have been pleased if I had told him I wasn't you?!” I yelled.

“That’s why you flirted with him?”

“I didn’t! I don’t even fancy your man! If you guys could have your way, I bet you would have told him that you didn't have a sister and that you were the only child!” I yelled at their faces, brushed past them, and ran up the stairs.

“Come back here, Sapphire!”

I ignored my dad till I was out of sight.

Hilda was right. I should have totally ruined her chances with that man!

I was trying to be the good girl! No, because I was a good person, I didn't want anything to go wrong because of me.

I pretended to be her and this was what I got?!

I buried my face on my pillow and released my pent-up emotion in it.

My phone kept ringing and I knew it was either Aidan or Hilda but I couldn't care less.

I did not know how long I was in that position till I slept off.

ONE WEEK LATER.

My twin sister's wedding was coming up and everybody in the house was busy.

Ever since the last incident, I hadn't shared a word with my sister or my parents and they didn't care to reach out either.

My mother tried talking to me though. She asked how my night was. She asked if I was hungry. She asked if I slept well and all but she couldn't go any further because she was scared of hurting Emerald.

Tch.

I was at Hilda's place that day and I had decided to spend the rest of the week with her because I didn't want to go home.

“Your phone is ringing!” Hilda announced as she brought it to me in the kitchen.

“Is that Aidan?” I asked.

“No, your mum.”

I raised my brows and chuckled dryly.

“I am not picking up her call.”

“Why? Are you still mad at them?”

Of course, I had told her about what transpired, and just like me, she was pissed too.

“I am sure she wants to talk about me being the bigger person and forgive my sister…”

“—Because she is weak and just getting better.”

“—Because she is weak and just getting better.”

Hilda and I chorused and we burst into laughter.

My mother has said those words to me countless times and I have narrated it to Hilda, so of course, we were so familiar with it.

“You are still going to be the bigger person, you know?” she laughed and turned to leave.

“Shut the fuck up!”

“You've been using the cuss words so much these days. Is that a sign of growing up?” she asked and I laughed.

“You can say that again.”

“I bet your mum can't wait to tell you those words. She is calling again!”

“Switch my phone off!” I yelled from the kitchen.

**

The next day…

I settled on the couch, switched on the television, and then leaned forward to take my phone from the table.

I switched it on and the notification that rushed in almost scared me.

I had several missed calls from my mum and dad. I sat up and opened the message she had sent.

“Sapphire. Come home, It's urgent.”

I stood up hurriedly and rushed to the room to change my dress.

I've never had such several calls or texts from them and instantly, I knew something was going on.

I hope it is not too late.

Many hours have passed.

Hilda wasn't home, so I rushed away after locking her door and dropping a quick message.

It was as if the whole world had just collapsed in front of me as I heard the news from my mother.

The two of them sat side by side and my father consoled my mother while I stood and watched them.

“How… How did it happen?” I stuttered.

“She was going to the boutique or something,” my father answered.

“So… where is she now? Why are you two home?”

“She is in a coma,” he announced and I felt my knees weakening.

Even though I disliked my sister, I had never wished for something bad to happen to her.

Emerald had gotten involved in a car crash and had fallen into a coma.

I fell on my kneel and sobbed gently.

I felt my father's presence in front of me and I raised my head. He bent down and took my hands in his.

“That's why we called for you to come home.”

“I am sorry, I didn't know,” I cried.

“Your sister's wedding is in four days,” he shook his head and caressed my hands.

“Will she wake up before then? She was so happy about her wedding,” I shook my head as tears fell from my eyes.

“That is why you are going to take her place on her wedding day,” he said and I raised my brows gently.

Okay. I think I didn't hear him very well.

“What?”

“You are going to pretend to be her and marry Logan,” he repeated.

“Dad!” I yelled, yanked my hands away, and stood up.

“You can do it, my child,” he stood up and stared at me.

“This is bull… No, Dad! I can't! I can't pretend to be her and marry her fiance!” I hollered.

“But you could pretend to be her to flirt with him, right?” he stared at me sternly.

“Dad!” I screamed.

Is this a prank?!
