CHAPTER 18

Stephenie took a step back, but Perry stopped her. It was as if the way Perry looked at her gave her the impression that she couldn't possibly deviate from her aunt.  As soon as Stephenie realized how Perry expected her to act, she went straight to confront her aunt.

“How could you say that when you keep telling me that you barely have an idea about my mother? This could only mean one thing: that you know so much about her but you just don’t want to share it with me? What's the deal, Aunt Hilda? You know, I deserve to know the truth about my mother.” Stephenie's eyes were welling up with tears, which she fought hard not to shed. She couldn't cry in front of her aunt again—not now, not ever.
