JASMINE POV.

I didn’t remember much about the ride home—only that the car felt smaller than usual, like the air inside had been sucked out and replaced with static.

I kept my eyes glued to the window, counting the streetlights as they passed. One, two, three. Anything to keep from thinking. Anything to keep from falling apart in front of him.

William didn’t say a word, and I didn’t either.

When we pulled into the driveway, I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out before he even killed the engine. My heels clicked angrily against the marble floor as I stormed into the house and went straight for my room. I heard him call my name, but I slammed the door shut.

I didn’t want to hear it. Not now.

He knocked, voice soft and careful. “Jasmine…”

I didn’t answer.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to upset you. I didn’t think it would affect you like that.”

I bit down on my lip until it hurt. My chest was burning. My stomach felt hollow. I wished I could scream or throw something, but all I coul

  • WIFE TO A CHEATER BRIDE TO A BILLIONAIRE    CHAPTER 61

JASMINE POVThe car ride started off quiet. For once, Ava wasn’t talking. I was still catching my breath from nearly being banned from a mall. Haley had her AirPods in, casually humming along to a song and texting like she didn’t just throw me under the bus and record it for her followers. William drove with one hand, the other resting near the gearshift… not quite touching mine, but close enough that I could feel the heat. The trunk was stuffed with decorations, costume bags, and one battered plush pumpkin Haley had insisted on keeping as a “souvenir of war.” She even named it Gerald. When we turned onto Ava’s street, she sat up straighter. “Oh, um… are we stopping here?”William didn’t even flinch. “Yeah. I figured I should drop you off first.”She blinked. “I thought we were all heading back to the mansion.”“I want to spend the rest of the evening with my family,” he said calmly. “And you should spend it with yours.”Ava’s mouth parted slightly, caught somewhere between surprise

WILLIAM POV. I was already regretting inviting Ava five minutes into the mall. She hadn’t stopped talking since we stepped out of the car. Every display we passed sparked a new memory, a louder squeal, or another excuse to cling to my arm like we were anything more than family acquaintances. I had changed into a black long-sleeve button-down and charcoal jeans, something decent for the public, but I was already overheating from the effort it took not to snap at her.She reached out again, brushing nonexistent lint off my chest. “You always look so serious, William. Maybe you need a haunted house to loosen up. You used to love those.”“I was eleven,” I muttered, stepping slightly to the side. “And I had a concussion that day.”She laughed like I had just delivered the punchline of a joke, flipping her hair. I didn’t even try to fake a smile. Then, like a miracle, Jasmine appeared at my side. She smoothly slipped her arm through mine. “Babe, they have black candles near the home sectio

JASMINE POV.I opened the door slowly the next morning, half-expecting the hallway to be empty, but it wasn’t. William was just coming in from the gym, wiping his face with a towel draped around his neck. His tank top clung to his skin, damp at the collar, and his biceps flexed as he adjusted the duffel bag strap slung over his shoulder. He stopped when he saw me. And for a second, neither of us moved.“Hi,” I said, softer than I intended. His eyes held mine for a beat before he replied, “Hi.”We looked at each other in silence for a while; I shifted on my feet, fingers fumbling with the hem of my sleeve. “I’m… not sure I handled things right yesterday. I’m sorry for how I reacted.”He shook his head immediately. “You don’t have to apologize. You had your reasons. And if you lashed out that way, it was for a good cause.”I blinked at him, surprised by how easily he let me off the hook.“I was wrong,” he added. “That wasn’t part of the bargain. And I let my parents’ expectations inte

WILLIAM POV. Jasmine said she was fine, but I could hear her sniff quietly beside me. She kept her face turned to the window, her arms crossed. I reached out to hold her hand, but she flinched. I swallowed hard and pulled away, pretending not to notice.Did she hate me that much? Did I disgust her that deeply that the idea of even pretending to have a child with me was enough to unravel her like this? We didn’t say anything for the rest of the ride.I didn’t mean to upset her. I wasn’t asking her to have a child with me—to take the test. It was a stupid tradition my father insisted on. But clearly, it hit her harder than I expected. When we got home, she went straight to her room and slammed the door. I followed.“Jasmine,” I called out, knocking softly. No answer.“I’m sorry,” I said quietly, my voice pressed against the door's grain. “I didn’t mean to upset you. I did not think it would… affect you like that.”Nothing.I leaned my head against the door, closing my eyes. “I’m not a

JASMINE POVThe sun had started to dip, painting the sky with that warm, peachy glow that made everything look softer. The water was getting cold; I shivered slightly as I climbed out of the pool. I wrapped myself in a towel and sat on one of the lounge chairs, drying my legs slowly while watching the clouds.William had left about thirty minutes ago. His father had called for him, and with the way he sighed before going, I knew it wasn’t going to be a light conversation.I was just tying my towel tighter when I heard soft footsteps behind me.“So… what made you marry my cousin?” Haley’s voice came with a teasing grin as she plopped down beside me. She wrung her hair out and stretched out like a cat in the sun.I blinked. “That’s… direct.”She shrugged. “I’m nineteen. Subtlety isn’t my thing.”I chuckled. “Love, of course,” I said too quickly. Then I laughed, mostly to cover how weird it sounded.“Right,” Haley drawled. “Because that’s always the reason people marry in this family.”I
