I didn’t cry.

Not as I walked out of that hospital room. Not as I passed nurses in pink scrubs and parents wheeling children around in wagons decorated with balloons. Not even when I got into the car and slammed the door so hard it rattled the frame.

But the second I turned the key in the ignition, my hands began to shake.

She did it.

Kiara.

My best friend.

She handed Elora over like she was nothing more than a problem to be solved. For money. For desperation. For Emma.

I rested my forehead against the steering wheel and let out a long, bitter exhale. My chest ached in a way I couldn’t explain. Betrayal like this didn’t feel sharp anymore. It felt dull. Numb. Heavy.

I could almost hear her voice again—“If you were a mother, you’d understand.”

That was the part that cracked me wide open.

Because I would’ve been. Once.

And if my child were alive, would I have done the same?

No. No, I wouldn’t.

Because saving someone you love shouldn’t come at the cost of destroying someone else’s.

  • WIFE TO A CHEATER BRIDE TO A BILLIONAIRE    CHAPTER91

VALERIE’S POV.Mark had insisted I stay in what he claimed to be the particular room, where he would come visit me whenever he felt like it. It was just like a prison because I couldn’t go out unless he approved, and to make sure I never did, he asked the maid to lock the door after they brought me food or any of my necessary items.I sighed, looking out of the window. It was as if my life was a never-ending misery. I wondered about Blair and Hunter. I wondered if they would come back for us or at least for Jayden. I was still lost in my thoughts when the door cracked open. It was Mark, and he was wearing a bright smile that I wanted to wipe off his face.““Oh darling,” he said, forcefully pulling me in for a hug. I frowned, pushing him away from me.“What do you want?” I hissed. I was tired of his filthy hands touching my skin.“I want you to have the same enthusiasm you always had when we were dating,” he scolded.“You can’t expect me to act the same way I did when I thought you ac

JASMINE POV.His lips crashed against mine again, rougher this time, like he’d finally given up pretending he could resist me. His weight pressed me deeper into the bed, his hands gripping my thighs as though he feared I might disappear if he let go.I’d never seen William like this. Stripped of his careful restraint, his arrogance, his endless calculation—this was raw. Unmasked. And it sent a shiver down my spine. The contract, the games, the lies, the betrayal—they all bled into the background until there was only us. Only this. His mouth trailed down to my neck, his breath hot against my skin, and I arched under him, fingers threading into his hair. The stubble on his jaw scraped deliciously along my collarbone, drawing a gasp from my lips.“You drive me insane,” he muttered against my skin. His voice was ragged, desperate, like every inch of him was unraveling.“Good,” I whispered, tugging his head back up so his storm-grey eyes locked on mine. “Because you’ve been driving me insa

SAGE POV. I stood near the cafeteria entrance, holding my food tray while scanning the place. Every table was filled except for Roman’s. He sat alone at the far end of the hall, casually twirling a knife between his fingers as he glared at me. It was as if he was making it clear that no one was welcome to sit beside him. But I wasn’t stupid enough to want to sit with him—not after he threw me out of our room, and definitely not after the way he had been watching me since I walked in.I swallowed hard, shifting my tray. Shit. Where do I sit? Then, out of nowhere, someone called out.“Oi! New kid!”I turned toward the direction of the sound to see a blond boy waving at me.He scooted closer to his friend, tapping the empty space on the bench between them. “C’mon, before you embarrass yourself standing there.” I hesitated for half a second before heading toward them.“Thanks,” I muttered, sliding onto the bench. The moment I sat down, their scents hit me. Alphas. Both of them. The b

SAGE POV. We stood in a long, uneven line in the courtyard, the early morning chill making my damp tunic cling to my spine. All around me, the new recruits shifted uncomfortably, boots scraping on gravel. Some cracked their knuckles or rolled their shoulders, preparing for whatever ordeal the academy had devised for us next.My stomach churned.Master Aldric stood in front of us like a granite statue, arms folded across his chest. Beside him, Matron Ada watched with that hawk-like stare that missed nothing. And in the center of them both, Headmaster Gideon stood straight-backed, his fine coat buttoned to the neck, a small, unreadable smile on his lips.No one spoke. Then Master Aldric took a step forward, and his voice boomed over the courtyard in that deep, guttural way of his, like the old warlords in bedtime tales.“LISTEN WELL, YOU WHELPS.”I flinched along with half the line.“BEFORE WE BEGIN THE NEXT TRIAL,” he growled, “I WOULD NAME AND COMMEND THOSE WHO HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES

FLORENCE POV.I stared at my stepfather as they wheeled his lifeless body away, covered in a white sheet. It felt strange that Samuel, the same man who used to bark orders and curse at me whenever I did something he didn’t like, was now gone. The right thing to feel should have been sadness. But instead, I felt a strange sense of relief. I never really liked him or his family. The next few days would be filled with hospital paperwork, funeral home arrangements, and trying to keep my mom from falling apart. So I made a quick stop at the office to inform them about the unfortunate event and request some time off. When I got back to the family house, I was immediately cornered by my darling step-siblings, Michael and Emily.“Florence, did you give the memorial invitation directly to the Alpha?” Michael asked.“Yeah, when is he arriving?” Emily added eagerly.I gave them both a dry look. “I don’t know. I didn’t give it to him personally.”Michael frowned. “Why?”“Do you think just anyone
