LOGINI gasped sharply.
“What the hell?! I’m not pregnant!” I growled.
My heart began to race, and I could feel myself trembling. Why hadn’t I thought of that sooner?
I should have bought contraceptive pills on my way home, but it had completely slipped my mind. I was so out of it that I had even forgotten something important.
Whether I admitted it or not, he might actually be right. Especially since I knew I hadn't been protected last night.
“You can’t be sure. We both know I didn’t use protection last night.”
I shook my head vehemently. I couldn't get pregnant!
“T-there must be a way to prevent it, right?”
“Don’t even think about doing whatever it is you’re planning, Canna,” he warned coldly, his voice laced with a threat.
“I... I’m not p-pregnant,” I insisted.
We had only done it once, so it was impossible for me to get pregnant... right?
He studied my expression, and I knew my reaction disappointed him. Many women would jump at the chance to get pregnant with his child, but me? I wasn't ready. Having a child at my age was never part of my plans.
“Are you saying that just to escape me? Are you planning to hide something from me?” he asked suspiciously.
I squeezed my eyes shut. It was so difficult to explain things to a man like him. What could I possibly be hiding when I wasn't even sure I was pregnant?
I took a deep breath and composed myself before speaking.
“Please, sir. I want to resign peacefully without having to worry about any trouble.”
He let out a sharp breath. When I looked at Sir Azrael, his jaw was clenched.
“If that’s what you want, I’ll let you go.”
A sigh of relief escaped my lips before I even realized it. I felt myself relax at his words.
“I’ll sign your resignation letter under one condition.”
I froze.
“Condition? Sir, you can sign my resignation letter without any conditions.”
“You either agree to my condition, or you stay with the company. Which will it be?”
I glared at him. There were plenty of people who could take my place as his secretary if I left.
“W-what’s the condition?”
If that was the only way I could get away from him, then I would do it.
My heart pounded as I stared at him, anxiously anticipating his terms. I silently prayed that whatever condition he had in mind wouldn't be too demanding.
He stared at me for a moment before finally speaking.
“You’ll stay with the company for two more months. I want to make sure you won’t run away from me in case you’re carrying my child.”
“How many times do I have to tell you that I’m not preg—”
He raised his hand, silencing me before I could finish.
“That’s my only condition, Ms. Villegaz. Once I’ve confirmed that you’re not pregnant, you’ll be free to leave my company.”
I bit my lip, unsure of what to say. It wasn't that I didn't want a child. If I ever found myself pregnant, there would be nothing I could do but accept it.
What I couldn't understand was why we were arguing about this when there was no certainty that I had conceived. It hadn't even been a full day since we'd slept together.
“Okay, fine! I’ll stay for two months. After that, don’t try to stop me from leaving,” I told him.
His eyes widened for a moment before he smirked.
“If you can still leave...” he murmured so quietly that I didn't hear him.
He had taken care of me for almost an entire day. If I hadn't told him I was feeling better, Sir Azrael probably wouldn't have gone home.
I was incredibly grateful when I woke up the next morning and discovered that my fever had subsided. The only thing bothering me now was the soreness throughout my body, especially in my lower region.
Despite the lingering pain, I had to go to work. As long as the two months weren't over, I would remain Boss's secretary.
My phone rang, filling the quiet air around me. I tore my gaze away from the computer and glanced at the screen, frowning when I saw an unknown number calling.
I answered it.
“Hello—”
“It’s Azrael. Come to my office now,” he said from the other end before abruptly ending the call.
I stared at my screen and frowned.
“That’s it?” I muttered, shaking my head as I stood up and headed toward Sir Azrael’s office.
I realized that this was the first time he had called me since the morning. But I didn't mind. At least I could focus on my work without feeling awkward around him.
“You called for me, sir?” I asked as I entered his office.
“Yeah. I want you to have lunch with me,” he said, leaning back comfortably in his swivel chair.
I stared at him in confusion. I thought he had called me because there was something important he needed me to do.
This wasn't the first time he had invited me to eat with him, but I had always turned him down. What would my coworkers think if they saw me having lunch with the boss?
“You can eat alone, can’t you?” I asked calmly.
“What if I want to eat with you?”
My heart suddenly skipped a beat. It was such a simple question, yet it stirred something strange inside me.
I cleared my throat and silently scolded myself. I shouldn't be feeling this way.
“If there’s nothing else you need—”
“Have lunch with me, Ms. Villegaz,” he ordered firmly.
“I can’t do that, sir. I still have a lot of work to do.”
I stepped back when he stood up and slowly approached me.
“Are you disobeying me, Canna?” He fixed his gaze on me.
I swallowed nervously. There was nowhere else for me to retreat because the door was directly behind me.
“W-what are you doing?” I asked anxiously.
“I didn’t expect my presence to affect you this much.” The corner of his lips curled into a smirk.
“S-sir, I should get going.” I tried to open the door, but he stopped me immediately.
“Are you avoiding me?” he asked in a husky voice.
The hairs on my arms stood on end when I felt his warm breath against my ear, especially with his body pressed so close to mine.
“W-what the hell are you doing?!” I turned around and shoved him away.
He stumbled back a step. I was about to snap at him when someone suddenly knocked on the door.
I opened it, and Sir Jaric, Sir Azrael’s cousin, walked in.
“Hello, Ms. Beautiful,” he greeted me with a smile and a playful wink before walking straight to the sofa and sitting down.
“I-I’ll take my leave now,” I told Sir Azrael.
I didn't wait for him to respond. Instead, I hurried out of the office.
Once I was outside, I pressed a hand against my chest. Only then did I realize that I had been h
olding my breath the entire time.
“What’s wrong with me?” I whispered, rubbing my chest.
“I think I’m going nuts...” I shook my head vigorously.
I was seething with anger as I made my way toward Mr. Cervantes's study.A wide smile spread across his face when he saw me. He set down the newspaper he was holding and gave me his full attention.“You're here, just as I expected,” he said.“You're a terrible person! How could you…” Tears streamed down my cheeks before I could even finish my sentence. My family was my weakness. Although Scaxy was only my cousin, I had always considered her my sister. She had been my family ever since I lost my parents. That was why it hurt so much to see her suffering.“I told you, young lady. Your family will pay the price. I wasn't joking when I threatened you,” he said with a smirk. My eyes narrowed. I wanted to lunge at him, but I forced myself to hold back.I had to be careful with every move I made. I knew that a single order from him could put my cousin's life in danger.“Please… punish me instead. Don't drag my family into this,” I pleaded, my voice trembling so badly that I could barely hear
“If you refuse the money, your family will suffer. I’ll make sure you lose your job at the company, and no other company will ever hire you. You and your poor family are going to suffer for the rest of your lives,” he threatened. My breathing quickened with anger. If I didn’t think carefully, I would surely lose whatever respect I had left for the man standing before me.“Will you accept the money, or will you suffer? Choose wisely, Ms. Villegaz,” Mr. Cervantes said, staring at me as though his eyes were filled with nothing but hatred.I shook my head and laughed bitterly. I wasn’t so shallow that I would give in to his demands.“Is that a threat?” I asked bravely.I held his gaze, refusing to back down.“If that’s the case, then I’m sorry to say this, but it’s not possible. I don’t need your money. I may be poor, but I still have my dignity. And my family? You can never do anything to them. I’m sure of that.”I put emphasis on every word, wanting him to understand that I wasn’t the k
My hands were growing cold with nervousness. It wasn't my first time visiting the Cervantes mansion. Sometimes, Azrael's younger sister would invite me over whenever she had no office hours at the mansion. She enjoyed spending time with me.I should have been used to coming here by now, but this was the first time I would be facing Azrael's father not as his secretary, but as his girlfriend.I could count on one hand the number of times I had seen his father. Even from his face alone, it was easy to tell that the older Mr. Cervantes was a strict man. When we arrived at the mansion, the gate automatically opened, allowing Azrael to drive into the compound.Azrael got out first and opened the door for me. He extended his hand, which I accepted with a smile. As we entered the mansion, the servants were lined up in the living room.“I'll inform the chairman of your arrival, sir,” one of the maids said.“There's no need.” Mr. Cervantes spoke as he appeared in the living room.My heart poun
“Pervert.” I rolled my eyes at him.The man smirked and pulled me closer, placing his hand on my waist. My hands landed on his chest. Azrael wasn't wearing a shirt, allowing me to admire his well-built physique freely.“You look so hot, baby…” he whispered, brushing his lips against mine.“Are you really going to be this naughty?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.“I can be naughty for you,” he said before claiming my lips. His kisses trailed down my neck and stopped just above my chest, which was still covered by the towel.“Azrael… Stop. I need to get dressed,” I said, trying to hold him back.We would surely end up in bed again if I didn't stop him.He gazed at me with hooded eyes.“Should we cuddle? Or watch movies before we go to bed?”I was tempted to watch something with him, but I was genuinely sleepy. I hadn't gotten a decent night's sleep yesterday because of Azrael.“I'd love to watch a movie, but I'm sleepy,” I said with a yawn, trying to move away from him.Azrael nodded. “Oka
The two of us fell silent after I said those three words. I felt Azrael's hand loosen around my waist. He looked at me, his mouth slightly agape in surprise.“I love you,” I repeated, in case he hadn't heard me clearly.“Canna…” he whispered, as if he didn't know what to say.He pulled back slightly and gazed at me. I saw the surprise in his eyes, but happiness shone even brighter. It was as if he still couldn't believe it. I love him? Had I really just said those words? He simply smiled at me, gazing into my eyes as if he didn't want this moment to end. I never expected us to reach this point, either.“Wait—” I didn't get to finish my sentence because he suddenly scooped me into his arms.I instinctively wrapped my arms around his shoulders and my legs around his waist. I was startled, but before I could protest, he was already kissing me.I didn't stop him. Instead, I kissed him back and clung tightly to him as he carried me back into the bedroom. I could feel both our hearts poundi
The sun was already high when I woke up. Frowning, I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past ten in the morning.I immediately tried to sit up, but I stopped when I felt Azrael's arms tightly wrapped around my waist.I glanced back at him. He was still fast asleep, holding me from behind. He looked just as exhausted as I was. He had barely given me a break last night. We had gone on until past four in the morning. I had lost count of how many times we had made love.I carefully slipped out of his embrace, not wanting to wake him. Once I was finally free, I quickly got out of bed. I pulled away the blanket covering my body and was surprised to find myself wearing Azrael's shirt. My skin didn't feel sticky, either, so he must have cleaned me up last night. When I tried to stand, I let out a small groan of pain and sank back onto the bed.I glanced at Azrael, feeling slightly annoyed. I wanted to scold him, but I couldn't bring myself to wake him up just
