ELENA'S POV
I looked at the time as I woke up, groggy. It was 5:30 am. Still early, but then I remembered my plan as I tried to get up. Suddenly, I heard the thumping of shoes on the hardwood floor of the staircase. It was Damien getting down to his indoor gym. I quickly hid well on the couch, careful not to get caught. He didn't seem to notice, and soon the door to the gym door closed behind him.
Sure that he was inside and wasn't coming out any time soon, I quietly tiptoed to the kitchen, opening the fridge and getting out the frozen spice jars. I returned them to the drawers from which I got them. For extra effects, I turned on the sink tap, knowing by morning the whole kitchen would be flooded, and stealthily returned back to the couch. Lying back down, no sooner had I placed my head on the headrest than I dozed off.
Waking up again, to the bright rays coming into the living room. It was almost 8 am and I yawned, getting up to stretch when I spotted Damien head towards the kitchen. I snickered inwardly as I pretended to be asleep.
I'm such an evil genius, I thought to myself.I heard him curse, and I held my mouth to stop myself from giving myself away by laughing out loud. He sure went bonkers just by seeing the state of the kitchen, imagine if he checked every other thing. Turning to the other side so I was facing the backrest, I held in a chortle. I heard him stumble towards where I lay down and pull my best sleeping look.
I guess several years in prison have taught me a few tips on acting, so much so that I can say I've become a pro at it. Old me would be so proud of who I've become.
I heard my name once, but I ignored him, pretending not to hear. Serves him right for ignoring me last night.
The next thing was a loud, resounding shout of my name, which scared the hell out of me so much that I jumped in fear."ELENA CARTERRRRR!!"
I jumped, yelling in fear. Instinctively, he yelled, scared of my yelling. That was when I saw it. His bare chest, toned abs that disappeared into his grey pants, which did little to hide the bulge. A half-naked Damien with very wet hair and a black T-shirt on his shoulder. I yelled in shock, shutting my eyes. He got scared, yelling as he realized that I had seen his half-naked torso.
I jumped off the couch like it was what burned me and not the hotness radiating from Damien's body, turning away from him. Oh Lord, save my eyes from evil. I have to wash my eyes with bleach. Oh dear.
But you gotta admit, his body is foinnnneeee as hell. You could totally jump on this fine specimen that God has created, my subconscious prodded.Cut it out, mind. Now's not the time to think PG-18 thoughts.
Sorry."Jeez, you scared me," I shot to him, still looking away and not wanting to desecrate my eyes once more.
"You scared me, too. Your scream and the bird's nest that is your hair is enough to scare me shitless."
I rolled my eyes. "Are you dressed? Please tell me you're dressed."
"One second," he replied. Then, after a few seconds, "Yes, you can turn around now."
I slowly turned, cautious not to let my eyes see what it's not meant to. When I was sure he was fully dressed, I straightened up, frowning. "Why the hell did you scream my name like that?" I questioned, folding my arms like I have absolutely no idea why.
When in fact, I most certainly did.
The look of fury was back on his face almost immediately. "What monstrosity did you create? In my kitchen?!" he snapped, pointing in the way of the kitchen. I cackled inwardly, glad that my plan had the desired effect. I played innocent, pretending not to know what was going on.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I lied.
I definitely knew what he was talking about.
"The mess in my kitchen. I know it's you, so stop pretending," he spat. In my mind, I was practically rolling on the floor cackling like a banshee. But my exterior was a calm and cool demeanour.
"Well, I was hungry and groggy. I really don't know what I did last night," I shrugged innocently and his nose flared, like a very pissed, very angry dragon. Grabbing my arm, he pulled me to the kitchen despite my protests.
Pointing to the mess and the flooded kitchen, he fumed. "This is the mess you caused, princess," he spat angrily. I faked a gasp and a look of shock. Damn, I was really good at acting. Maybe I should go pro with it.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize I forgot to tell you," I replied with a fake remorse on my face. "I sleepwalk when I'm groggy, and I don't sleep on my bed. I'm an active sleepwalker. I'm so sorry, I think it was while I was sleepwalking," I said.
Feeling very flustered, he cleared his throat. "Well, I should apologize. It was insensitive of me not to make sleeping arrangements for you."
"Oh, it's okay," I smiled, surprised he was really buying my lies. I faked a yawn. "I still feel sleepy," I said, heading back to the couch. He didn't say another word. But I could hear him curse every once in a while as he tried to clean up the mess I made. I snickered when he made a face, cussing loudly when he pulled out the snow-melted water-filled spice jar. I was sure he was going to spend quite some time tidying up the whole disarray.
That'll teach you not to mess with me.
Elena, one
ELENA’S POVAs soon as I entered the kitchen, a hand grabbed me, yanking me backwards to face her. “Who the fuck are you and what are you doing here?” she barked at me, her eyes full of disdain. “I don’t really have the strength to argue with you, Miss Dennis,” I mumbled lowly and looked away, deciding it was better to leave her without any drama. She yanked me again.“Bitch, I’m talking to you!”Oh boy. I was really hoping to work here without drawing any attention to myself. But this bitch is starting to seriously test me. I inhaled deeply before walking away from her, pretending she wasn’t talking to me as I reached for a scone to nibble on while I waited for Hilda. She smacked my hand off the one I was about to take one, giving me a death stare. “Look, I don’t know who you are and why my Damien brought to personally to work for him. But I’m warning you, stay away from him. Don’t even think of making him yours. Damien is mine, got it?”I stared at her for a while before letting ou
ELENA’S POVI bit the insides of my mouth to swallow the laugh that threatened to escape. Served her right to waltz in here with her boobs all up in her face, thinking she can seduce Damien. It was very funny to watch her flare up and turn red like she ate a bunch of jalapeno peppers while she walked out in shame with her tail between her legs. Not before glaring daggers at me as she was leaving, as if to say This is not over. Not even sparing her a second glance, I sat back down and opened the folder, running through the job description. I frowned in confusion, not understanding why the job description was looking so mediocre even for my status.“Grab your coffee? What am I, your live-in maid?” I scoffed, slamming the file on his desk angrily, and got to my feet. He didn’t look startled one bit as his gaze didn’t leave his work. “And what is this, taking all the notes in all your meetings? Following you on business trips?”“That’s the job description you’ve been dying to find out abo
ELENA'S POVI sat in the car in uncomfortable silence as we drove to work. My mind was itching with questions to ask, about what my job was and what exactly I'd be doing. I didn't have much experience, as I had just taken over the company before I was wrongfully accused and jailed. But despite all the questions in my head, I couldn't bring myself to ask. He'd already pissed me off this morning by asking me to change. I knew for sure he just wanted to control me, even to the littlest detail, but I won't let him get the best of me. The new outfit, a blue office couture I had changed into, was more fitted, more cinched than the last, but he didn't seem to notice, or mind at all.As we reached the towering building that was Vance Industries, a valet came for the car and waited for us to get off. A group of men sighted us and bowed, although some of them had their gaze on me lingering longer than usual. I heard a soft growl beside me, and I turned to see Damien staring menacingly at the me
DAMIEN'S POVI closed the door to my room with a start, letting out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. I had managed to keep my cool all the while I was talking to Elena, but internally, I was losing my shit, my thoughts running about 100 miles per hour. She drives me crazy and pushes my buttons, that's for sure. But no other woman has made me jittery in my entire life. Only she could make me curse in anger, yet make me want to go all out for her. It was a miracle that I refused to buy her company shares back with my money, because if she asked, I'd give in to her demands within a heartbeat. What's it with this woman?I didn't know what came over me, telling her to work for me. Maybe because I don't want her to run away. And her body.God damn. I didn't mean to look, and I knew I sounded like a creep just thinking about it. But one look at her and I was transfixed. Blown out of my mind. I know I told her that her body was even less desirable than the strippers at the club, but
ELENA'S POVMy face blanched, devoid of all color at his statement. Even if the words weren't as menacing as they sounded, the look that came with it was even scarier. Bland and placid, yet deadly. And ice cold, it made hell freeze over. Don't think you wanna know. You may not live to tell the story. He definitely killed someone. How often did he do that? Does he pull out a Glock every time things don't go his way? I gulped, getting up as well, suddenly feeling claustrophobic being in the same room with this man. I have to get far away from here. I began walking away when a hand grabbed my arm, causing me to jump, yelping in fear. I turned to see Damien already behind me, his hand holding on to my arm. He suddenly looked menacing, not someone I should ever think of messing with."We're still talking," he said, his voice still placid and bland, but the longer I was in his immediate line of sight, the faster my heart beat from petrification.I forced myself to blink and my lips to form
ELENA'S POVI stepped out of the room, peering left and right to be sure that Damien was nowhere to be found. When I was sure he was nowhere in sight, I walked to the living room."Elena," I heard my name, and jumped. Jeez, this man has got to stop scaring me like this. I saw him in the kitchen, making dinner. Or more like a very early breakfast, seeing that it was just past 11 pm. I soon joined him, albeit warily, and took a seat by the kitchen counter."I'm sorry for barging in on you like that. I'm not used to having people around me," he apologized. I popped open a bottle of red wine I had seen on the island and poured myself a glass. I took a big gulp. "I bet you were ogling me, fucking me with your eyes. Let me make one thing clear: get those dirty thoughts out of your head. Get that image of me out of your head, okay? I'm not like the girls you fuck around with. Even if the world were ending and you needed to have sex to save it, I'd rather die with the rest of the world. And
