Excitement

ATHENA’S POV

It felt so good to feel acknowledged, and noticed. The excitement bubbling in me just at the thought of going to a college of Arts was quite overwhelming, and what was even more delightful about the offer was the fact that it wasn’t a school specially made for the disabled, so I didn’t have to feel pitiful or miserable. Going to a school with normal people felt like an honor because most of my life there had always been that line, that boundary—no matter how great I was at what I did, they still acknowledged me as a different person.

We were different people because I couldn't see but they could. I was at a disadvantage. Most of the time, it had struck me deep that although I could do most things that a totally normal person with two beautiful and working eyes could do, and sometimes, even better than they would do, but there was little I could do about my situation. I had been forced to accept it.
