Gwy's POV

The door has been shut in our faces.

After that revelation that I gave away, Alpha Devon's minions started to tie my hands behind my back and pushed me inhumanely back to Ephy and Cloud.

I sighed and closed my eyes.

Well, it's better this way than say what's really at stake.

"What should we do now, priestess? I don't think he's going to give up so easily," Cloud asked, still bizarre clung into his soul.

"Priestess! How about you just lie to him that he has a mate? That way he will stop this!" Ephy suggested.

I rolled my eyes at her. "That's a suicide, Ephy. No, thanks!"

"Then, what should we do now? He really is pissed off," she added worryingly.

"Just shut your mouths. I'll handle this. The more you close your mouth, the lesser trouble. Got it?" I told them.

"Then what about you? What about the temple?" Cloud asked. "We've been operating here for a decade now. We can't just give up on this!"

"Do you think I will let him destroy my temple?" I scoffed. "Don't underestimate the one and only Gwyneth Hathaway! I've been in this service for a decade now. And if anyone tries to take me down, many people, even Alphas in other packs will vouch for me!"

Cloud sighed. He is the most worried of us three. He is always the worrier. But, I like that he thinks critically. Within our job as shamans, he is the busiest among us. He makes sure that everything is set. He overworks all the time but he never complains. Practically speaking... the temple is our life.

"There are two scenarios I'm thinking about priestess..." Cloud opened up, rebranding his subject.

Both Ephy and I are close to him waiting for his proposals.

"First, Alpha Devon might kill you because of dire shame. Knowing his nature, he would likely do it without even thinking," he uttered.

"Well, he just ran off!" Ephy spoke opening her palms in mid-air next to her spiky shoulder blades.

"That's a thing here," Cloud answered. "The second might be the case. So, hear me out. What if he ran out to think critically about what to do next? And the moment he returns, he will still order our priestess around to pay back his shame in front of us?"

I rolled my eyes at that. "Fucking crybaby he is!" I muttered under my breath. Thinking about the second deduction is a pain in the ass! If that butthurt Alpha really does that, what should I do then? I can't just let him order me around!

"That's for lying, sissy! You better get us out of here!" Grace grunted in her threat.

"Can't you tell that I'm thinking here? Don't piss me off, Grace!"

Cloud and Ephy jumped a little due to my voice.

"Sorry. Grace is shitting on me!" I whispered apologetically. "Anyway, what should we do?"

"We don't have a choice. If this actually happens, we need to compromise. After that, I will somehow go and ask for Alpha Qirak's assistance. He is the only Alpha I know that will surely vouch for our priestess."

I smirked at that. Alpha Qirak of Fountain Pack is surely my savior on any day. He is always inside my temple. Because packs inside the USA are fans of witchcraft. In this place, we are tolerated but still not highly revered as that of the Alpha.

And as for Alpha Qirak... well, he is smitten by me. Every week, he would ask me to find his mate but when I tell him that his mate is still not born yet, he would just sweet talk me over my extra hours. He is such a charm and a baby. Too bad... I am mateless!

Yes. Clear as crystal. I am mateless. This is the fate of a shaman like me. For generic witches around New Orleans, I am different from them. Because my ways stemmed from the Asian Culture of werewolves. And shamans are not allowed to have mates. I am called Solus Lupus.

After the plans were laid out, the three of us got back into our original positions as though nothing had ever happened. When the hoodlums came back, we were back into our fake scared-y faces.

The two large men with long hair stopped in front of me with bland stares.

"On your feet, Priestess!" the first one uttered.

"Excuse me?"

"On your feet!" he snapped. "Alpha Devon doesn't want to wait. Now!"

I jumped in fear and obliged at their order. They were pushing me to leave the main room when I stopped and faced the other. "You will not scandalize my temple, do you hear me? And you will not harm any of my shamans!" I declared to them.

One of them smirked. "You don't have the right to order us around, Priestess! You will listen to our Alpha and no one will get harmed!"

Both of them let out a belly laugh. Then, they pushed me until I was no longer with my assistants.

I sighed. I have no choice. If I don't do this, they will be hurt. I have to swallow my pride for now.

I was brought to the garden where a beautiful gazebo is placed. It was one of my favorite places here in my temple. But now, it began to displease me as the ruthless Alpha of Black Dew Pack settled his back against the statue of the moon goddess.

I clenched my jaw. Very disrespectful!

I was pushed hard unannounced and tripped off in front of the gazebo. I instantly knelt and was catching my breath. I slowly looked up and saw the mocking face of Alpha Devon.

"Hey, you!" he pointed at me, boredom and a bit of amusement filled his eyes, then darted them at me. "You still have a chance to spare your life. All you have to do is go back and clarify what you saw."

I chuckled, making my voice sound antagonistic. "You really never give up, do you? Do you know how much precious time you are snatching from me?"

"I don't care. I can buy your life. So, you don't have the right to complain!" he answered gritting his teeth. "Do it again!"

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Mr. Devon."

He arched his brow at me. "What did you say? Do you want a death wish?"

"I'm not afraid of getting killed, Mr. Alpha," I answered confidently. "But you have to understand this. I cannot do it again because it will not only harm me physically but it will also torment you. The moon goddess has already declared you a Solus Lupus. You are mateless. And that is the truth." I hope my answers will sink into his dickhead!

I saw how he balled his fists trying to control his anger. "So, it is a no?" he asked again.

"Alpha Devon..."

"Then you have to answer for me," he suddenly declared.

I arched my brow at him in confusion. "Excuse me?"

"You, whoever you are, A priestess of Shaman Temple..." he started.

"It's Gwyneth Hathaway!" I corrected him.

"Whatever! You... You, Gwyneth Hathaway, are hereby ordered by the Alpha of Black Dew Pack to become his Luna!"

I widened my eyes due to shock. "I'm a what?!"

  • Wanted: Matchmaker for the Alpha   Chapter 18: The Plan

Gwy's POVSaying I'm in bewilderment is an understatement.I'm beyond astonished after hearing Devon say those sinister words. Yes, I hereby declare it sinister. What else can I describe this monstrance?! I can't even accept what I saw back in the spirit world. And hearing him say that I'm his ‘perfect’ chosen mate doesn't sit well with me. Not that I don't like it, but that only means I'm never gonna get out of here anytime soon!Back here in my room, I never intend to sleep again. It's still 3 in the morning. I tried to plot out my escape with Grace trying to help me out with the possibilities."Try to go out for now, Gwy. Maybe we can see something here. Like an opening or something. You know... every spell has a crack in a dome. There's no perfect spell in this world. Everything has a downside," she suggested enthusiastically."Okay. Let me check if the coast is clear..." I slowly headed out of my room. I looked at the guards and saw them getting busy talking to each other.I clev

  • Wanted: Matchmaker for the Alpha   Chapter 17: Scared

Gwy's POVI gasped for air as I woke up from that dreadful slumber. It took me a while before I could breathe properly. Beads of sweat were all over my temples. When I realized that no one is around, I sighed in relief. At least it's just a dream. It was my first time to be feeling like that in a dream.Scared. Frantically scared to death.I've never dreamt of someone violating me before. I'm a lucid dreamer so I know how dreams work. But this one was different of all the dreams I encountered. It was something ominous and dark. It feels like it has been with me since then that it was awaken from a deep slumber. It was a weird feeling. I still feel the goosebumps coming up behind me.I looked around and noticed that Devon was not around. He must've gone out since I passed out.It was 2 in the morning but I can't go to sleep anymore. I'm afraid that the dream would come again when I close my eyes. I feel so alone.I hugged myself, frantically shaking.Ever since Devon tried to touch me

  • Wanted: Matchmaker for the Alpha   Chapter 16: Self-Pity

Gwy's POVWe were silent the whole time when we returned to the Packhouse. I tried my best not to look at him or show interest at that point.I'm still seething in anger for how much Devon made me look stupid. I also blocked Grace for the meantime. I can't help but take grudge on her. How could she leave me there when I was asking her to help me?I was eager to move away from Devon's excessive teasing. But I failed miserably. I hated myself for that. When we finally arrived, I was about to get out of thr car but the door won't push open. I tried several times but to no avail. That's when I turned to him.Devon was looking out the window, silent and unmoving. He locked the car on purpose. He was waiting for a right moment, I could guess. That sight only gave me more annoyance than whatnot.I sighed in defeat and was the first one to open my mouth to speak. "Open the door. I'll wash up and rest...""Not yet, priestess.""Stop calling me priestess. You've already ruined me anyway. Now, p

  • Wanted: Matchmaker for the Alpha   Chapter 15: On The Watch

Gwy's POVDevon immediately got out of the car in no time while I was trying to calm myself. What was that? Was that it?!"Get out.""Huh?""I said get out of the car or I'll drag you out really bad," he repeated in a warning tone.I just got out of the car, grimacing the whole time. When I did, he abruptly left me.I scoffed. This guy is so impossible!I had no choice but to follow him. I stomped my feet until I reached the VIP elevator.I struggled into making a conversation the whole time. What should I even say to him? He completely ignores me the whole time! He's punishing me for all the times I tried to escape. It's obvious.Inside his office, I would look at him while he's doing his work smoothly. I would seldom see him scolding werewolves. Sometimes seeing him slapping idiots for not doing a security check-up on each borderline in New York.I don't even care about his anger issues anymore. I fell so bored the whole time. I became frustrated after finding out that I can't chann

  • Wanted: Matchmaker for the Alpha   Chapter 14: Under the Impression

Gwy's POVI whimpered a lot the whole time. Not because I feel so violated by the fact that Devon is kissing me, but because my body wanted it so badly. My body is betraying me. It's starting to abandon my beliefs and my convictions as an Eastern Shaman.Who am I kidding? No matter how much I convict myself with the fact that I'm a Solus Lupus, I'm no better than anyone else in this world. I'm a female werewolf. It's impossible not to fall for someone like Devon. As I tried to know him better with the help of other pack members in Black Dew, I came to realize how vulnerable the female population could be to his charm. And I'm one of the population who would throw myself begging for his touch.I moaned as his kisses deepened. His touch started to travel down to my navel. And just as I was anticipating his next move, he suddenly broke off and stood up. His face gloomed in sweat and disdainfulness."Get out," he coldly said."W-what?""I'm done with you. Aren't you thankful?" He smirked.

  • Wanted: Matchmaker for the Alpha   Chapter 13: Ponder

Gwy's POVAfter a long day, I headed back on my way to my room.I shouldn't be curious about Devon's family, especially his father, Diether Guillermo, but the way he acted earlier seemed suspicious. He seemed too nice. Too good to be true kinda stuff. But what should I do? I have to figure out something to get the hell out of here. I can't keep on playing Devon's game. I have to do something. Or else I won't be able to find my way back to my temple. My mind was drifting away with these thoughts and suddenly a pair of shoes was in front of me."What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?" Devon asked. His rugged manly physique greeted me with awe. I blinked twice. "Where's Deena?""D-Devon? What are you doing here? I thought you'd spend the night at your office," I asked, a bit fazed. He looked at me with a smug on his face and put his hands on his side pockets. "Answer me first.""W-well... I didn't wanna waste my time inside my room so I took time getting to know Black De
