Meghan.

The second Kaiser slammed the door in my face, a lump formed in my throat. Not out of sadness, no, I was far past that. I was fuming. My nails dug into my palms as I stood there for a moment, feeling the cool wind sting my face. I took a shaky breath, dusted the dirt off my jeans where I had stumbled on the gravel outside, and forced myself to straighten up.

This wasn’t over. Not by a long shot.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, ignoring the sting in my chest, and ordered a ride. My hands trembled, but not from cold. Rage vibrated through me like electricity under my skin.

Fifteen minutes later, a beat-up black sedan pulled up at the curb. I slid into the back seat, barely meeting the driver’s eyes.

"Where to?" he asked, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.

“Outskirts. The old slaughterhouse off Pine Creek Road.”

He raised a brow but didn’t say anything. Smart man. The ride was silent. Good. I needed the silence to think.

Kaiser, I spat his name silently, gripping the

Kaiser.I paced restlessly in my study, anger boiling just beneath the surface. I've tried my best to conceal it, but I just can't.“Damn it!” I snapped, sweeping an old journal off the desk. Papers scattered to the floor, but I didn’t care. My thoughts were spiraling. Aurora was playing games. I knew it. She’d make promises to buy herself time and come up with some emotional plea that would make me look like a fool if I wasn’t careful.I had to stay ahead. I always had to be two steps ahead. Why couldn’t she just see that I was the one for her? That I’d always been the one? Yes, I’d made mistakes but if she truly loved me, she would’ve fought for us instead of choosing him. I stood by that dumbass after she was neglected by that man! For goodness sake her loyalty lie with me!And now to make things worse, word had reached me that the council members I needed for the next phase of my plan had been locked away. Until they were released, I was at a standstill. The door creaked open behi

Aurora.Exhaustion clung to me like a second skin. Another night had slipped by without a wink of sleep. Ever since Kaiser’s message arrived, my insomnia had grown worse, relentless and gnawing. I forced a smile as I waved at Alpha Ethan that morning, pretending everything was fine. He mustn’t suspect that I was falling apart inside.I had pictured myself as his wife, the Luna of the pack, proud and regal at his side. I had dared to imagine it would come easily. I should’ve known better.A yawn threatened to escape, and I quickly stifled it. The last thing I needed was Ethan worrying, thinking I was sick or worn out. But in truth, I was desperate for sleep real, peaceful sleep that didn’t involve dread curling through my spine. Kaiser’s message had haunted my mind since the moment it landed. And I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.A threat. That’s what I expected next. Because there could be no other reason he would dare to contact me again, not after signing the agreement that

Aurora.I could barely comprehend the words I’d just read. My pulse quickened as I flipped the paper over, then turned it back again, hoping desperately that my eyes were deceiving me. But they weren’t. The sheet slipped from my trembling fingers and floated to the ground with a soft thump. My hands quaked so violently I couldn’t steady them. My entire body was overtaken by a storm of emotions I couldn’t begin to tame.“An adopted son cannot be king.”I reread the statement, once, twice, five times hoping the words would shift into something different. But they didn’t. They remained as harsh and unyielding as the first time I saw them. And then, without even realizing what I was doing, I spun around and bolted out of Alpha Ethan’s room, my breath catching in my throat.I didn’t have a destination in mind, at least not immediately but then it hit me: the Queen. She had to see this. She needed to address it. Now.“Aurora? Where are you going?” I heard Ethan call after me, his voice trai

  • Wanted by my ex mate    Chapter 48

Aurora. After having lunch with the king and his mother, I didn’t even think about resting. The moment I stepped into my bedroom, I felt like I was about to explode. I couldn’t tell if I should be relieved by how the day had unfolded, or furious that the Dowager Queen still hadn’t warmed up to me. Finally, I was alone. A sliver of peace. I could actually hear myself think again. The entire afternoon had dragged on with agonizing stiffness. Alpha Ethan had disappeared into his study, promising to meet up with me later so we could head out to shop for new clothes.I wandered across my room barefoot, wearing only a soft, loose-fitting gown. The fireplace crackled quietly in the corner, but I felt no warmth. How could I even think of crying now, when everything seemed to be falling into place? What right did I have? And then, of course, there was Alpha Ethan. Or maybe it was the whirlwind of hormones from the pregnancy messing with me.I was trembling. Slowly, I inhaled and exhaled, tryin

Kaiser. The trip took nearly four hours, but I didn’t mind because this was worth the distance. For days, I had wrestled with the idea of delving into Alpha Ethan’s history, of unearthing anything that could turn his life inside out. I’d finally decided I wasn’t just going to sit and think about it anymore. Dax had hooked me up with the number of one of the most skilled hackers in the city, someone he swore could dig up just about anything for the right price.Eventually, I found the place. The building was ancient, practically crumbling, and looked like it hadn’t seen life in over ten years. I double-checked the address Dax sent me, just to be sure I hadn’t made a wrong turn.“Damn,” I murmured as I approached the rusting iron gate of the half-constructed structure. From inside, I could hear a soft humming, machines at work. There was definitely someone inside. Without waiting another moment, I stepped through. At the first door I reached, I knocked just once. I wasn’t sure if this w

  • Wanted by my ex mate    Chapter 46

Aurora.Alpha Ethan just walked past my room in complete silence. For a second, I froze, thrown off by the unexpected coldness of his demeanor. I stood there, momentarily distracted, watching him disappear down the hallway. From my position inside the bedroom, I could see into the living room. Queen Dowager stood there, arms folded tightly across her chest, watching me like a hawk. Our eyes locked. I waited for Alpha Ethan to turn and come toward me. Instead, he moved to the room next to mine, opened the door, and stepped in without a word.Confused, my thoughts swirled, and I returned to the way the queen was glaring at me, like she wished I’d vanish into thin air.I heard the sound of his boots as he moved inside, he must’ve been heading out to the garden. That’s when I jumped to my feet and shut my door with a loud slam. I collapsed on the edge of the bed, trembling slightly. My mind was a mess. I should be thrilled to be back in the palace, reunited with Alpha Ethan... but somethi
