Loria’s POV

I felt exhausted. The last thing I remembered was Amy turning the cover down for me last night. Now I see that Zerina is clearing. Standing in my human form the pack all gathered around a huge fire. Audrey says something about a bond then I hear Amy.

“I want the mate bond complete,” a slight pause, “As soon as possible. But—I’m not dressed for this—”

They must be talking about Amy and Andy. A smile splits on my face. I feel my magic pulsing in my veins.

I push forward and say, “I think I can handle the dress.”

Amy's face splits, “Loria, finally you're awake.”

“Yeah,” Andy says, tossing an arm over my shoulder. “It is good to see your eyes Zerina’s are a little creepy.”

“Her eyes are not creepy,” Simon says with a smile. He was just over with some pack members.

He must have felt the shift of control between Zerina and myself.

“Glad to see you are awake, you need to teach Zerina how to use the magic you both hold.” Simon says, still smiling.

“Another time,” I grin at him

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Eighty-Four

Loria’s POVThe last teen stepped through the threshold just as the light of my enchantment started to flicker—too much mass, too much movement. The spell was straining.“Alright, Audrey. You’re up.”She gave me a dry smile and adjusted her satchel strap. “If I puke mid-transport, it’s your fault.”And with that, she stepped inside.I waited just long enough to be sure everyone made it through before closing the crate’s door, laying my palm against the wood. “Take us home.”Magic rippled outward, soft as a heartbeat—and then the world blurred. One breath. One blink. And we were back. The castle courtyard shimmered in late afternoon sunlight, the ivy-covered walls alive with color from the earlier restoration. It looked like something out of a fairytale, if that fairytale was half-abandoned and half-being-magicked-back-together by two absolutely exhausted people. The moment the portal opened, chaos erupted.Witches tumbled out, blinking in the sudden light, bags clattering to the groun

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Eighty-Three

Loria’s POVThe coven was pure chaos—in the best way. All around the courtyard and into the long central hall, witches of every age scrambled to pack bags, gather charms, scribble quick notes, or herd younger siblings into place. I heard laughter, the occasional shout, and the unmistakable buzz of magic zipping through the air like invisible fireflies. The kind of energy that only came with excitement and uncertainty.Audrey, of course, stood completely calm in the middle of it.She didn’t move a muscle. Just raised one hand and snapped her fingers. With a sharp crack and a flash of silver light, her travel satchel appeared at her feet.“Show-off,” I muttered under my breath, smirking. She raised a brow at me. “You could do it too if you’d stop enchanting things the long way.”I stuck my tongue out at her. “Where’s the fun in that?”We walked together into the coven’s long rectangular kitchen, where sunlight filtered through stained-glass windows in soft jewel tones. Wooden counters g

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Eighty-Two

Loria’s POVThe moment my feet touched solid ground again, I knew something had gone sideways. The air was different—thicker with magic, laced with lavender and moonroot and that distinct scent I’d come to associate with witches' spells. This wasn’t the pack house.I opened my eyes to find myself standing in a wide circular stone room, walls glowing with soft candlelight, the scent of dried herbs hanging from wooden beams curling around my senses. Warmth hit my skin—gentler than fire, older than time.I’d been thinking of Audrey when I cast the portal. And apparently, the magic had listened.“Loria?” Audrey’s voice cut through the soft hum of magic in the air. She stood only a few feet away, barefoot, her long silver robe tied loosely at her waist. Her salt-and-pepper curls were down, brushing her shoulders like moonlight over a shadowed lake. She tilted her head, eyes scanning me like she was checking for damage. “Did you find it?”I grinned. “We found it.”Audrey blinked, then cross

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Eighty-One

Loria’s POVAndy sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by open books, parchment scrolls, and at least one leather-bound ledger that had half-crumbled when he turned the first page. The boy looked like a feral academic—hair sticking up, shirt rumpled, and a gleam in his eye that was equal parts obsession and discovery.“I went through this whole shelf,” he announced, not even bothering to look up. “Took me about an hour. Most of it’s basic education stuff. Math, grammar, a few entries on herbs. There’s even a celestial astronomy section that I’m pretty sure has outdated star charts, but it’s beautiful.”I smiled, crouching beside him as I brushed a little dust off one of the scrolls near his feet. “So nothing magical?”“Oh, there’s magic,” he said quickly, flipping open a thick journal bound with gold leaf. “It’s subtle. Hidden in plain sight. Like… okay, see this one?” He jabbed his finger at a cracked page covered in elegant handwriting. “It’s a lesson book. English grammar. But

Loria’s POVI turned to look at Simon, “portal back right now and get Andy, he has an eidetic memory.”Shock runs across his face. “Loria, I am not leaving you here alone.”“I will be fine.” I say but I can tell he isn’t convinced. “It isn’t happening.” He stated final.I hope he really didn’t think it was going to be that easy. I closed my eyes and sent up a prayer that this would work. I opened my mouth and said. “Estelle, Moon Goddess, If you want to make up for being a crappy grandmother and handing me a gift that I did not ask for you will get down here right now.”After a moment the air in the massive library rippled. “I have been waiting for your call.” I open my eyes and see her stand there. Just as celestial as usual. My eyes go back to Simon.“Simon this is Estelle, The Moon Goddess, My grandmother.” I tell him quickly then ask, “now will you please portal back and get Andy? I won’t be alone. And you will be gone approximately, fifteen minutes at the most. And that is

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Seventy-Nine

Loria’s POVThe kitchen was massive, tucked behind double swinging doors just off the main corridor. Stone hearths lined one wall. Rusted pots hung above ancient counters, and there were at least six iron stoves—none of them functional. A few dry wooden prep tables sat in the center, warped by time and age.“This is going to take some serious energy,” I said, frowning.Simon stepped up beside me. “Let’s do it together.”We didn’t speak after that. Our magic rose, golden and white, the tendrils of it curling outward like fingers searching for understanding. I focused on the structure—stability, purpose, cleanliness. Zerina poured power through me like a second heartbeat.Simon’s magic hummed through the floor—low and steady, like the earth itself responding to his call. Where mine restored the soul of the kitchen, his strengthened the body. Cracks in the stone healed. The rust disappeared. The air warmed, fragrant with subtle herbs and soapstone. The counters gleamed again, marble emer
