Amy’s POV

I moved slowly, methodically, letting my fingers speak care and steadiness as I worked the shampoo through Loria’s long, wild curls. Her hair was stunning—thick, tight coils that seemed to hold memories and magic both. It deserved reverence, not rushing.

“Okay, sweetheart,” I murmured, gently tilting her head. “I’m going to rinse—eyes closed.”

Warm water poured in soft, gliding rivulets over her scalp. I cradled her neck with one hand, directing the flow with the other, careful to avoid her ears and eyes. The basin behind her filled steadily, catching every drop as I worked.

“Now for conditioner,” I said, smiling to myself. “You’ve got that thick, curly goddess hair. It needs love.”

A chuckle slipped from her, soft and dry. “If you detangle it without making me cry, I’ll put you in the will.”

“I’ll take that as high praise.”

I worked the conditioner through her hair in sections, using my fingers more than the wide-tooth comb I’d brought. Coil by coil, knot by knot—I untangle

Loria’s POVThe meal passed in a kind of sacred silence.Simon and I didn’t speak as we ate cross-legged on the soft enchanted floor of the tent, plates balanced on our knees. The lanterns hovered dimly near the ceiling, casting warm amber shadows across the canvas walls. A gentle hum of magic pulsed in the air, quiet and alive—almost like the tent was breathing along with us.The chicken was perfectly seasoned, the potatoes crispy and tender. It wasn’t the meal itself that made it special—it was the fact that he’d made it. That we were alone, together, alive, and far away from the demands of being Alpha and Luna, parents to six children, and protectors of an entire supernatural community. In this enchanted space, we were simply Loria and Simon. No titles. No responsibilities. Just us.Zerina purred contentedly in my head. "This was a good idea," she whispered. "We needed to breathe."I nodded slightly to myself, taking another bite and chewing slowly. Every so often, I’d catch Simon

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Seventy-Five

Loria’s POVWe portaled four times today. Each location was promising for one reason or another—and each failed us in ways we hadn’t quite anticipated. The first had too many exposure points, open terrain that left the tree line too far off for comfort. The second looked perfect until the sound of distant gunfire made it clear a shooting range or hunter’s trail wasn’t far. The third—well, it was beautiful. Serene. Mountain views with the smell of pines thick in the air. But the altitude gave Simon a headache, and honestly, the terrain was just too rocky to build what we wanted. The fourth was… fine. A wide clearing by a small lake, bordered by thick trees and distant mountains. But it was too small.Zerina grumbled inside my head the moment we stepped into it."We’d barely have space to expand," she muttered, pacing behind my eyes. "Let alone raise children here."I agreed. Still, there was something peaceful about the place. Enough that I hesitated."We could camp here for the night,

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Seventy-Four

Loria’s POVThe shift between worlds wasn’t jarring—not like I imagined it would be. No spinning vortex or gut-wrenching fall. Just a soft ripple through the air, like stepping through a thin curtain of water and emerging dry on the other side. When I opened my eyes, we were no longer surrounded by thick forest. The air here was drier. Cooler. The scent of pine and dust filled my lungs. Mountains rose in the distance, capped with the remnants of snow, and the clearing we stood in was wide, framed by jagged cliffs and towering evergreens. It was beautiful—a kind of untamed, cinematic beauty that would take most people’s breath away. But the moment I looked at Simon, I knew he felt it too.Too exposed.Too open. There were at least six clear entry points that we could see right away, and who knew how many we weren’t seeing? The tree coverage was spotty, and while the elevation gave us a view of the valley, it also meant anyone from below could see us just as easily. The rock faces aroun

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Seventy-Three

Simon’s POVIt was the day of the ceremony. Our bedroom—or rather, what used to be our bedroom—felt like a hollow echo of what it once was. The walls were still the same soft gray, and the bed still sat in the center of the room, but all of our belongings were gone. Packed away and placed into storage. Even the air had shifted, no longer charged with the same familiarity. Tonight, Caleb and Maren would return to this room as Alpha and Luna of this pack. Loria and I would disappear into the night with nothing but enchanted backpacks and the weight of an uncertain future. We stood naked in front of the floor-to-ceiling mirror, the glass fogged lightly from the heat of our skin and the closeness of the moment we had just shared. My hands still rested loosely around Loria's waist, our bodies flush, her breath just beginning to steady. There was something deeply symbolic in the way we stood there—not just lovers or mates, but leaders on the edge of something brand new.Loria raised her han

Loria’s POVThe kitchen was already warm with the midday light pouring through the windows, and it only grew brighter with the energy now buzzing in the air. Simon and Andy hauled the large map and pinned it down on the end of the kitchen table while Amy cleared the rest of the space, her eyes already scanning like she was mentally staging the entire event.I pulled a pitcher of sweet tea from the fridge and poured it into four glasses, adding lemon to each one before sliding them across the counter. Amy caught hers mid-stride without looking."Okay," she said, taking a sip. "We're doing this right. You only hand over an Alpha title once. It has to mean something."Simon leaned against the counter beside me. "We were thinking something elegant but intimate. The dining hall at the den. Enough space, enough familiarity."Amy nodded slowly. "It’ll need to be transformed. Drapes, greenery, soft lighting. I’m thinking candles everywhere. Maren’s colors are lilac and silver, right?"I smile

  • What Survived The Burn   Chapter Seventy-One

Loria’s POVThe soft earth beneath my feet felt alive. Buzzing. Sacred. Estelle and I walked slowly through the field of wolves, the grass whispering around our ankles. They moved like mist through moonlight, all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some brushed against me, curious. Others lay sprawled in the sun, their ears flicking lazily, content."They’re beautiful," I whispered."They are free," Estelle said beside me.That word echoed inside me.We walked in silence for a time, the wind threading through the trees, birdsong carried on the breeze. Eventually, my thoughts pulled back to the second fountain. The one I still didn’t fully understand."You never finished explaining the second fountain," I said, glancing over at her. "The one where you said the wolves are placed when they want to return to Earth. What does that mean exactly?"Estelle nodded, her expression serene. "When a vessel—a werewolf—passes away, the wolf spirit inside them does not simply vanish. It returns here. This rea
