Chapter 5

Author: Blushing Thoughts
I stayed in the hospital for three days and finally discovered a shocking secret. The doctor who did my ultrasound examination turned out to be a clownfish merman from the bottom of the sea!

I secretly observed him for a long time. When he bent down to record the data, I asked in a low voice, "Can you cry out pearls?"

The doctor's hand trembled. His pen nearly dropped to the ground as he awkwardly pushed his glasses. "Mrs. Atwater, not all merfolk can produce pearls..."

I sighed in disappointment and turned my head to look at Theo, who was sitting beside me, peeling apples. I asked quietly, “So, you're a rare variety?"

The fruit knife in Theo's hand paused as he expressionlessly handed me an apple." Eat."

I pursed my lips. As expected, merfolk who could cry pearls were all treasures.

Meanwhile, Melody had called no less than ten times. The first time the phone rang, Theo was peeling grapes for me. The screen lit up, and he glanced at it, his fingers slightly stiffening.

I narrowed my eyes. "Answer it."

Theo silently tapped decline.

I said, "Cry me a pearl."

Theo said nothing.

Five minutes later, I received a pale purple pearl, to much of my satisfaction.

When Melody's second call came, Theo was massaging my calves. The phone's vibration made him pause.

I lazily looked up. "Answer it."

Theo declined with a poker face.

I said, "Cry."

Theo took a deep breath, his eyes turning slightly red.

With a thud, a pearl fell to the floor.

By the third and fourth time, Theo had developed a conditioned reflex. Whenever his phone rang, his eyes would start to redden, and tears would well up even before I could speak.

I laughed so hard that I slapped the bed. "Theo, do you have tear incontinence?"

Theo's expression darkened. He silenced his phone and answered through gritted teeth, "Elle, don't go too far."

I blinked innocently. "What did I do? I didn't say anything."

He was so mad that he turned around and went to the balcony for some fresh air. After less than two minutes, he silently returned, placed a pearl in my palm, and whispered, "Stop being mad."

I was puzzled.

The system was frantically trying to suppress its laughter in my mind.

"Elle, you've turned the villain into an automatic pearl-producing machine!"

On the day I was discharged from the hospital, I carried a sack full of pearls, happily preparing to go home and string them into a pearl curtain.

Theo carried the luggage in one hand and supported me with the other, afraid I would stumble or fall.

Just as we reached the hospital entrance, Melody suddenly rushed out from the side. Her eyes were red and swollen as she blocked our way.

"Theo! I have something to say to you!"

Theo's eyes reddened almost reflexively, tears instantly welling up.

Melody was confused.

I was suppressing my laughter until my stomach hurt. I quickly took Theo's arm and asked with feigned gentleness, "Ms. Carlisle, what's wrong?"

Melody opened her mouth, seemingly not expecting Theo's reaction. After a long pause, she finally said with difficulty, "I'm sorry... About that situation with my father… I misunderstood you—”

Theo interrupted frigidly, “It’s alright."

With that said, he pulled me quickly toward the car, afraid that the pearls would fall out again if we stayed any longer.

I turned and waved to Melody, remarking with a grin, "Ms. Carlisle, just ask Reagan if you need anything. Theo's busy."

He was busy crying me pearls!

Once in the car, Theo fastened my seatbelt with a grim expression.

I poked his cheek. "What's wrong? Unhappy?"

He was silent for a moment before suddenly whispering, "Elle, do you only like my pearls?"

On the specially made king-size bed, five little merchildren slept soundly. Theo frantically cooked seafood stew in the kitchen. The scales of the once gloomy and paranoid merman's fishtail had a warm, lustrous sheen now.The system notification rang out. "Exchange successful. Congratulations, you have obtained the right to spend the rest of your life with Theo."Before leaving, it suddenly asked me, "Is it worth it? Using all your points for a fish?"I replied to the system with a smile. "Look, he'll cry pearls for me."In the small box beside my pillow, the purple pearls were from when he was jealous, the blue pearls were from when we were being intimate, and that unique red pearl... was from when he held me the night the five babies were about to be born. The system disappeared, grumbling, "Hopeless love-struck fool!"The York family's ending was more tragic than imagined. Theo chuckled softly. "Don't worry. It's... safe... during pregnancy."The system immediately logged off. "Take care, Elle!"...On delivery day, Theo was so nervous he almost destroyed the delivery room. One moment, he was yelling at the doctor to save me; the next, he was squatting in a corner mumbling to himself, "If anything happens to Elle, I'll drown myself!"He was mentally unstable. When the five wrinkled little merbabies were brought out, he only glanced at them before turning away in disgust. "How ugly. Take them and release them."Having just given birth, I grabbed a pillow and threw it at his face. "Theo! Say that again?"Theo was quiet. The system commented, "Elle, you're awesome!"Perhaps because their mother was human, these five little merbabeis mastered the ability to freely transform their legs earlier than Theo had, and they used this talent for mischief. At the Year 1 merfolk parent-teacher conference, Theo and I were called to school for the first time.

Theo's full-force impact finally worked in his merman form, and seawater mixed with broken glass gushed out. His fishtail drew a sharp arc through the mess on the ground, directly sending two thugs who charged over flying. He grabbed my wrist tightly, his fishtail still dripping blood. "Elle! Are you okay?"I was just about to answer when there was suddenly a bang. The door was burst open, and a group of... strangely-shaped sea creatures charged in menacingly.I was puzzled. The leading doctor was the clownfish merman who gave me prenatal checkups, and he was waving his scalpel. "Catch these two humans and drag them to the bottom of the sea!"I rubbed my eyes, suspecting that I was hallucinating.I turned my head stiffly. "Theo... Are cross-species mercenaries popular... in the sea?"Theo's lips twitched. Before he could speak, the doctor walked over angrily. "Mrs. Atwater! These are all the guards Mr. Atwater's parents left for him!"I took a closer look. In the front row wer

Reagan turned around without any hesitation.Samuel understood and walked toward Melody, holding a stun gun in his hand.Melody struggled violently, her voice almost hoarse. "Reagan! You bastard!"Reagan did not turn back. He just instructed indifferently, "Do it."The stun gun was immediately pressed on Melody's skin. Her whole body convulsed as a shrill scream echoed in the sealed room.Theo stared at all this, his fingers clenching so tightly that the joints turned white, his nails deeply embedded in his palm, and blood oozed out again. He shook his head slowly. "It's pointless, Reagan. I can't cry anymore. Melody is no longer the person who mattered the most to me."I could not take it anymore.Melody's scream cut my nerves like a dagger, while Reagan stood by with a terrifyingly calm gaze. It was as if he were just watching an insignificant experiment. He ordered flatly, "Turn the power up. Theo isn't cold-blooded. He'll cry."Samuel grinned maliciously as he increased th

Melody was stunned. "Reagan, why are you here?"Samuel faked a smile. "He's my partner. Thanks to Mr. York, I found out that the leader of the Eternal Night Gang is actually a monster that's neither human nor fish! It's also thanks to his secret sponsorship that I developed the potion to suppress mermaids."Melody's eyes widened as she asked in disbelief, "Reagan, didn't you promise me you wouldn't reveal Theo's identity? Why... "Reagan explained in a flustered manner, "Melody, my grandpa is ill. Only merfolk's flesh can relieve his pain. Besides, aren't you afraid of Theo?""Reagan! You've lost your mind! That's only a relief, not a cure!" Melody was scared to look into Theo's eyes.I cursed in my mind. The system was puzzled. "Elle, what did you say? What does that mean?"I answered coldly, "I just cursed Reagan's family."Wild hope surged up in Reagan's eyes. "There's hope for a cure! If the merfolk cries out black pearls, my grandpa's illness can be cured! Back then, I alm

The center square in the aquarium used to be the star exhibition area of the aquarium. Now... it had probably become Samuel's carefully prepared execution ground. The car came to a sudden halt outside the aquarium.I took a deep breath and was about to get off when the system suddenly screamed, "Elle! I picked up Melody's life signal. She's here too!"I paused. "What?""Samuel must've used her as bait! She's locked up with Theo!"I gritted my teeth and fished out a gun from the trunk. Theo had insisted on teaching me how to use it for self-defense."Lead the way."In the dark corridor, only my footsteps echoed. The further I went in, the more humid the air became. It was even mixed with a faint... smell of blood. My heart was beating so fast that it almost burst out of my chest.Turning the last corner, the scene before my eyes made my blood flow backward.Theo was chained in the center of the huge aquarium tank. His half-human, half-fish form was fully exposed; his once vib
