LOGINHe found me
Jessica's POV
It was a chilly morning when I stirred from sleep,my arms wrapped around Rolda who had spent the night in my room.
There was a comforting warmth in having someone by my side.
A sudden knock on the door jolted me awake, and I muttered in irritation. "What the hell...." My eyes scanned the room as I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, feet meeting the cold floor.
I could have woken Rolda, but seeing how peaceful she was sleeping, I just didn't have the heart to disturb her. With heavy steps, I walked to the front door, dragged it open, and froze. My heart instantly hammered violently against my chest. Adrenaline surged through me. My legs trembled, and my breaths came in quick, shallow bursts.
Standing commanding before me was the biggest nightmare of my life. The man I had vowed I never want to see again stood confidently as though he owns the place.
"Jessy," He called softly. His voice ignited a storm inside me. A confusing mix of anger, fear, and the bitter sting of old wounds. My stomach twisted painfully.
"It's really you," He said, relief etched on his face and his hand reached toward mind.
I couldn't hold it any longer,my mind screaming in disbelief.
"What's the meaning of this?" I snapped, slapping his hand away as though I was shoving off the agony that still terrorize me at night.
"What are you doing here, Jake? How did you find me?" My voice was sharp, cold and filled with confidence I didn't entirely feel.
Years of agony, whispered promises and broken dreams flashed through my mind. The times I had begged for his love, suffered in silence and clawed my way to freedom clung to me like a movie I couldn't avoid.
There was no way I would allow him to reopen the wounds I had worked so hard to bury.
"I'm so sorry, Jessica. I've been searching for you..... I can't believe you're here," Jake mentioned, his eyes glowing with satisfaction and relief I couldn't comprehend.
He was dressed in a black leather jacket, black pants, and black boots. His blue eyes reminded me of every lie he had ever told.
His broad shoulders and chiseled jawline were a cruel echo of the dreams I had once clung to.
I rolled my eyes in frustration, forcing myself to focus on his face, not the temptation of his perfect body.
"Get the hell out of here, Jake, " I muttered firmly,my eyes laced to his with determination.
"I don't care how you found me. Leave. Now," I commanded,my eyes filled with fury.
"I know you're mad, and you have every reason to be. But please... hear me out. I'm sorry," He pleaded with sincerity I couldn't believe.
I had looked into that same sincere gaze for years, only to be deceived. There was no way I would forgive him or let him see the effect he still had on me.
"You don't get to speak to me, Jake. You don't get to demand I listen and you have absolutely no right, not after everything you've done or the terror and pain you caused me," I spat, my anger arising with every word.I clenched my hands at my sides, trying to contain the fury that threatened to boil over.
He had lost his chance years ago, and I would not give him the satisfaction of hearing him out.
"You're evil, Jake. I curse the day I met you, and the day I said yes to you. You're the biggest mistake of my existence," I muttered my voice tight with pain and hatred.
"I know. No explanation can atone for the pain I caused. I have nothing but words.... but please, Jessy. Let me speak. Let me tell you I'm sorry," He murmured, voice trembling with emotion.
I refused to let him see my heart. I refused to give him any clue that he still had power over me. I exhaled sharply and masked my emotions behind a calm facade.
"Jessy, please.... I want to make this right," Jake insisted, his stubborn tone a reminder of the man I once knew.
"Just go, Jake. She clearly doesn't want to hear a word from you," Rolda said, stepping forward like a shield. Her tone left no room for argument.
I breathed a quiet sigh of relief, realizing I had been holding my breath.
"If you don't go, I will be force to call the cops and you couldn't like what that would do to your reputation," Rolda added with determination.
Jake's eyes lingered on me, conflicted and searching, before he responded with a small, almost cruel smile. "I'll be back, Jessy. I promise."
Without another word, he turned and walked toward his car.
I closed the door, my hands trembling as I leaned against it.
My heart still raced and my thoughts spinning.
My nightmare was back and deep down I knew this time, he wouldn't just leave it at a warning.
Somewhere in the distance, the faint roar of an engine echoed, a reminder that Jake had always been relentless.
My mind raced with questions I wasn't ready to answer.
How did he find me?
What does he want this time?
And most importantly could I finally protect myself from the storm that was coming?
Jessica's POV "Miss Wilson, please have a seat."The moment Mr. Bernard said those words, I knew something was wrong.People didn't usually get summoned into management offices before ten in the morning unless there was a problem. My first thought was that I had made a mistake.Maybe a guest had complained, or there was an issue with a reservation.I also wondered if I had forgotten something important during yesterday's shift.I sat down carefully and waited.Across the desk, Mr. Bernard looked unusually pleased with himself. That only made me more nervous."Am I in trouble?" I asked.Mr.Bernard blinked before laughing."In trouble?"His amusement did nothing to calm me."Then why do I feel like I'm about to be fired?" I asked again."You aren't being fired." He said calmly. I released a breath in relief."Then what's going on?" I enquired calmly.Instead of answering immediately, he slid a cream-colored envelope across the desk. The hotel logo wasn't on it and neither was my name.
Jessica's POV "You're staring at that sandwich like it personally offended you."The voice nearly made me choke on my drink.I looked up sharply.Roman stood beside my table holding a paper coffee cup in one hand and an annoyingly relaxed smile on his face.I wasn't surprised to see him since he's the only one bold enough to speak such words.I lowered my drink slowly."What are you doing here?" I questioned, my eyes locked to his."I would have expected some warm welcome, Jessica," He said calmly."It's my lunch break," I muttered, my dissatisfaction was visible for him to see."I can see that," He added.I looked around the small cafe across from the hotel. The place wasn't crowded.A few office workers occupied the corner tables. Two students sat near the window.Nobody seemed interested in us.Unfortunately, that didn't make me feel any better.Roman pointed at the empty chair opposite me."Mind?" He asked innocently."Yes," I replied but he sat down anyway. The man had a remarka
Roman's POV "Your candidate performed better than we expected."The statement greeted me the moment I stepped into the conference room.I looked up from the tablet in my hand.Across the table sat three members of the recruitment panel. The oldest among them pushed a file toward me.I didn't sit immediately, Instead, I glanced at the name printed on the folder.Jessica Wilson.A small smile threatened to appear, but I quickly buried it."She's not my candidate," I said. The woman nearest to me laughed."Could've fooled us," she added quietly.I finally sat down. The file remained untouched before me."You're giving me too much credit," I uttered, my eyes scanning the room."No," another man replied. "We're giving you exactly the amount of credit you deserve."I already knew where this conversation was heading. And I didn't like it.The first mistake people made about me was assuming I enjoyed explaining myself.Because I clearly didn't.The second mistake was assuming I spent my time
Jessica's POV I almost didn't go.The email sat open on my phone while I stared at it for what felt like the hundredth time. The address, time, and the instructions were clear. Everything I needed was right there.Yet somehow leaving Rolda's cottage felt harder than it should have.Maybe because opportunities always came with consequences. That was something life had taught me early.I slipped the phone back into my bag and headed for the door."You're doing that thing again."Rolda stood near the kitchen holding a cup of coffee."What thing?" I asked in confusion. "The overthinking thing." Rolda explained. I rolled my eyes at her while she smiled before speaking again. "You've been reading that email since breakfast.""I just want to be sure," I said quietly. "You are sure," Rolda countered. "No, I'm not," I persisted. Rolda pointed toward the door."Then go find out."The response was typical Rolda. She had a talent for making difficult things sound easy.Unfortunately, I w
Jessica's POV By the time my shift ended, I was exhausted mentally.Roman had somehow managed to occupy an entire corner of my mind without even being present.Every time I looked at the folder in my locker, questions followed.I couldn't stop wondering why now and how much he knew.I locked the locker and headed toward the employee exit. The hotel was quieter now. Most of the evening guests had already checked in and the lobby no longer carried the frantic energy of earlier.I started walking toward the bus stop. The air felt cooler than usual. It was comfortable and for once, my thoughts weren't focused on Jake. That alone felt like a small victory.I was halfway down the block when I noticed the man.At first, I didn't think much of it.He stood near a newspaper stand scrolling through his phone. It was erfectly normal and I kept walking.A minute later, I glanced back again. He was walking too.I decided to wave off the uneasiness stirring within me. It was actually nothing. The
Jake's POV The moment I heard Roman's name, I stopped reading. My eyes remained fixed on the report in front of me.I was completely stunned and for several seconds, I couldn't move or speak, my eyes focused on a point and then slowly, I looked up."What did you just say?" I asked sharply, I could feel a lump on my throat. The investigator sitting across from my desk shifted uncomfortably."He arranged it." He added.A dangerous calm settled over me."What exactly did he arrange?" I questioned, holding my breath as I anticipated the worse."The job opportunity." He answered. My jaw tightened instantly, and for a brief moment, I wondered if I had heard wrong. But unfortunately, I hadn't.Roman Stone, had done what I had expected of him.I dropped the report onto my desk. The papers scattered slightly and the investigator wisely stayed silent. My eyes were burning with fury now as spoke."How long?" The question came out low."Several days," He replied. My heart thumped hard at his wo
