Cassienne felt her head pounding before she even opened her eyes. The pain was sharp and heavy, as if someone was hitting a drum inside her skull. She winced and slowly lifted a hand to her forehead. Her mouth was dry, and her body felt weak.

When she finally forced her eyes open, she blinked several times, trying to understand where she was. The ceiling above her was familiar. The clean scent, the warmth of the sheets, the wide soft mattress—it reminded her of her former bedroom.

Her heartbeat quickened.

Where am I? Her thoughts were messy, rushing through her head like scattered papers in a storm.

Then, slowly, the memories of the previous night returned. It was her birthday. Her friends surprised her. And they were at the club. She remembered everything they did. Merrick, making her laugh, the Dancing, the free drinks and the cheering crowd.

A small smile touched her lips. Yes… it was fun. For the first time in a long while, she felt free, no fear, no tension. Just laughter

Cassienne noticed the way both Merrick and Daisy were staring at her. Their eyes were wide, their faces serious, as if she had just said something very wrong. “What?” she asked softly. Her voice was still weak, even though she was trying her best to pull herself out of the misery she had lived in for years. “Why are you two looking at me like that?” “Don’t ever say something like that again,” Merrick said firmly, with a calm voice, but his eyes were sharp. “Not about yourself. Not ever.” Daisy suddenly burst out laughing, breaking the heavy mood. “What was that, Cassienne?” she said, shaking her head as she sat closer to her. “You and I are two very different people.” Cassienne lifted the mug with both hands and took a slow sip of the hot coffee. The warmth spread through her body, calming her a little. She breathed in and spoke again. “We finalized the divorce today,” she said quietly. “All that’s left is to meet in court tomorrow morning so the magistrate can conclude everythi

It took Merrick less than two minutes to get to Auralink. The moment he stepped into the glass building, his sharp eyes caught sight of Cassienne. She was just coming out of the elevator, but something was wrong. She was walking on unsteady legs, swaying slightly as if the ground beneath her could no longer hold her weight. Her face was soaked with tears, her eyes red and swollen. Her lips trembled, and her hands were clenched tightly by her sides, as though she was barely holding herself together. Merrick’s heart dropped. He didn’t think, he didn’t hesitate. In long, fast strides, he crossed the space between them. Just as Cassienne’s knees threatened to give way, he reached her. “Cass,” he called softly. Her eyes lifted to him for just a second, filled with pain and shame—and then she broke. Her body sagged forward. Merrick bent instantly and swept her off the floor, lifting her into his arms with so much tenderness and care. He didn’t care who was watching. He didn’t care

Cassienne walked into the Auralink Systems building with steady steps, her heels clicking sharply against the polished floor. The sound echoed through the wide glass lobby, and one by one, heads turned in her direction. Everyone began to stare. Some whispered to one another while some just froze in place. Cassienne did not look at anyone. She did not greet anyone. Those days were over. The days she normally is the first to smile. The days she greeted everyone politely, even when they ignored her. The days she tried to be kind, gentle, and understanding. All of it had earned her nothing but pain. Every single one of them had believed Tina’s lies, and had gossipped about her without asking or hearing her own part of the story. They judged her without knowing the truth. So today, Cassienne walked past them like they did not exist. Her head was held high, her shoulders straight. The oversized sweater slipped slightly off one shoulder, showing her smooth skin, while her fitted jean

Two days had passed since Cassienne ran out of Dreston’s mansion like a thief. Two full days. And in those two days, Dreston had not called her. He had not sent a message, or shown up at her door. Surprisingly, Cassienne was glad. At least this way, she could finally breathe. The silence would help her heal faster. If he stayed away, she wouldn’t be tempted to look back. She wouldn’t start hoping again. She sat alone in her quiet kitchen, perched on a tall stool by the counter. This was her reality now. Single and Alone like a free bird, with a peaceful mind. Peace was something she had not known in five long years. Five years of living in a marriage that looked perfect from the outside but was empty on the inside. She lifted her cup of coffee and took a slow sip. The warmth spread through her chest, but her mind drifted back to what happened two days ago in Dreston's bedroom. Her breath hitched slightly. She had never been in that room before. Not once. Even as his wife, s

As soon as Dreston got home, he quietly stepped out of his car and walked straight toward the mansion. Cassienne was fast asleep in his arms, her head resting weakly against his chest. She felt so light, almost weightless, and that only made his heart ache more. He pushed the front door open with his shoulder, trying not to wake her. Mrs. Rawlings was standing near the entrance, preparing to close the curtains for the night, when she suddenly saw him. Her eyes widened in shock. “Is she okay?” she asked quickly, her voice filled with worry as she rushed closer. “She will be,” Dreston said softly. “Please get me some warm lemon water.” Mrs. Rawlings nodded immediately and hurried off toward the kitchen. Without wasting time, Dreston carried Cassienne upstairs. Her body was warm and trembling slightly, like she'd been crying even in her sleep. He tightened his hold on her and walked faster. When he reached his bedroom, he gently placed her on his bed. She sank into the soft sheets,
