Chapter 2

Author: Sweetie Moore
“There’s no need to go to the hospital.

“Gerald, you’re too kind for your own good. That’s why you keep getting deceived by him.

“Besides, if it weren’t for what Jayden did seven years ago, you wouldn’t have fallen into a coma. Even if he transplanted brainstem cells to you, it can’t make up for the seven years of youth that you’ve lost!”

I frowned.

“Seven years ago? What did I do?”

Seeing the confusion on my face, Claudia gave a cold sneer.

“I only spared you some dignity before because you’re my husband in name. That’s the only reason I didn’t punish you publicly.

“Did you really think no one knew your true colors?

“Seven years ago, Gerald was helping out on your project and accidentally entered the wrong data. It only caused one project to fall through.

“To vent your anger, it wasn’t enough for you to pin the blame on Gerald during the meeting. You lured him out after work and deliberately pushed him off a building at a place without surveillance cameras.

“At the end of the day, Jayden, if anyone should be leaving the company, it’s you!”

Before I could respond, Isaac spoke up, frowning.

“Claudia, that project was Jayden’s two years of hard work. Losing something worth tens of millions, are you really brushing it off as losing a mere project?

“And the investigation back then already concluded that there was no evidence Jayden pushed him. It was only Gerald’s statement before he went into a coma.

“Over the past years, it’s been Jayden managing the company for you. Otherwise, it would have already—”

“Enough.”

Claudia cut him off sharply. “This is my company’s business. It’s not your place, as an outsider, to interfere.

“One more thing. Address me by my title at work. Please call me President Yates.”

Watching her so fiercely defend Gerald, I couldn’t help clicking my tongue.

It seemed she wasn’t just a terrible wife, but also an incompetent boss.

Anyone who allowed personal emotions to dictate decisions involving tens of millions in business clearly had no business running a company with hundreds of employees.

Seeing that I remained silent, Claudia assumed I felt guilty, and her eyes brimmed with smugness.

“Forget it. I didn’t come here today to argue with you.

“Jayden, considering you tried to make amends by donating your brainstem tissue to Gerald, if you apologize to him for what happened seven years ago, I might consider giving you another chance and reducing your punishment.”

I shook my head and walked directly toward her and Gerald.

“President Yates, there’s no need to consider it.”

Seeing what she thought was obedience, she smiled with satisfaction.

“That’s more like it.

“As long as you’re as obedient as you used to be, I promise the company will always have a place for you.”

Even now, Claudia believed I was the Jayden from her memories.

She had no idea that I had truly lost my memory due to the surgery.

The man standing before her now was no longer the husband who endured humiliation and compromised every single time.

Instead, he was the young man from seven years ago, fresh out of university, filled with ambition and pride.

And this time, I would never let myself be wronged again.

Before Claudia could finish speaking, I interrupted her and handed her a document.

“You’ve got it wrong.

“I’ve already written my resignation letter; you just need to approve it.

“As for the divorce agreement, it doesn’t matter if you don’t sign it. I’ve already contacted a lawyer to file a lawsuit.

“When the time comes, don’t forget to show up in court!”

Seeing the resignation letter in my hand, Claudia immediately lost control of her emotions and crumpled it into a ball.

It wasn’t until Gerald reminded her that she realized she’d lost her composure. Her face turned cold again.

“Are you threatening me?

“You think that because my family owed you a favor back then, I’d be afraid of people laughing at us if the story got out. So you’re certain I wouldn’t dare break up with you?”

“A favor?”

Seeing my confusion, Isaac whispered from the side, “Seven years ago, when Claudia’s family fell on hard times, you used your family’s connections to help her, and that’s why she married you.”

Before I could fully process that information, Gerald seized the opportunity to play the victim.

“What exactly are you trying to do, Claudia?” I confronted her in a lowered voice. Her smile widened happily.“What am I trying to do? Of course… I’m trying to win you back.”She leaned in close to me, her breath warm against my ear.“Jayden, you were willing to change for me before.“Now, I can change myself for you.”…Her words left everyone in the room speechless.Who was Claudia Yates? She was the legendary “Ice Queen”!Cold, domineering, and untouchable.Countless men had hit a wall trying to win her over. And now, she was saying she would pursue me, Jayden Clement? That was simply unbelievable.Everyone turned to look at me, waiting for my reaction.I felt nothing. If anything, it just seemed a little amusing. The pain of the past didn’t simply disappear.Even if she changed now, what difference would it make?“Claudia, you don’t have to do this. “It’s over between us.“Let the past stay in the past.”Claudia didn’t respond and just kept drinking. Before

“I’ve also come to see many people and many things for who and what they really are.“At least, I’ve found myself again.”I looked at Claudia and enunciated every word slowly, “I’m doing just fine now.”Claudia didn’t believe me.“No! Jayden, you’re talking nonsense!“You don’t remember anything. How could you know if you’re doing well or not?“You’re just saying that out of anger!” She retorted emotionally while gripping my hand tightly.“You can’t give up treatment! You have to get your memories back!”The Ferris wheel descended slowly toward the ground.I gently, but firmly, pushed her hands away. “It’s exactly because I don’t remember that I see things more clearly.“What kind of life have I been living all these years?“I’m not going back to the past.”I looked at her calmly, without a single ripple in my eyes. Then I turned and walked away.Behind me, her sobs broke out like her heart had shattered.I didn’t look back.Later, Claudia and I went to the local co

I’d treat this… as drawing a full stop to this absurd marriage. For the rest of the day, Claudia took me to all sorts of places. The cinema, restaurants, and the amusement park.We watched a movie together, had a meal, and even rode the Ferris wheel. It all felt like… a date. While we were on the Ferris wheel, Claudia gazed out at the view before suddenly speaking.“Jayden… do you remember?“This is exactly what our first date was like.”She turned and looked at me.“Do you remember… how it was back then?”Her eyes were filled with nostalgia and hope.I looked at her and answered honestly.“I don’t.”My memories had been hazy ever since that surgery. There were many things I couldn’t recall, including my first date with Claudia. She froze, clearly hadn’t expected that answer. “You don’t remember?“You’re still angry with me, aren’t you?”She thought I was doing this on purpose to upset her.Claudia’s eyes began to redden again.“Jayden, I know I was in the wrong be

“Are you free next Saturday?“Let’s… meet up.“And iron out everything.”I agreed.Claudia said nothing more and turned to leave. Her departing figure looked somewhat lonely.I stood there for a moment, a little confused.Could it be… that she still has feelings for me?I shook my head.Impossible. If she truly had feelings for me, she wouldn’t have ignored me for seven years.Neither would she have chosen to stay in that abbey when I needed her the most.No matter what, the pain she’d caused me could never be undone. There was no turning back between us.I dwelled no further on it and turned to leave this so-called “home.”I headed straight to see my close friend, Isaac. The Spencers were involved in the investment. He had connections everywhere and access to plenty of resources. After hearing about my ordeal, he didn’t hesitate for a second to offer his support for me to start my own business.“You should’ve done this a long time ago, Jay!“Why let that woman ha

Claudia’s voice carried weariness and a faint trace of anticipation. She thought that if she had just softened her stance a little, I would obediently come back to her.She thought I was still the Jayden Clement who would obey her every word.Unfortunately for her, she was wrong.Just then, the doorbell rang.I walked over to open the door. Standing outside was a sharply dressed real estate agent with a young couple behind him.“Hello, are you Mr. Clement?“I’m from West City Real Estate. You previously entrusted us with selling this property…”I nodded and stepped aside.“Come in.”Claudia’s face instantly paled. She whipped around and stared at me.“W-what… do you mean by this?!”Her voice was sharp and shrill, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.I met her gaze and said calmly, “Exactly what you see.“I’m selling the house.”Claudia staggered, nearly losing her balance.“Selling the house?!“H-have you lost your mind?!“This is our home! Claudia’s eyes widened, her lips trembled slightly, and her face alternated between pale and crimson. “You’re asking me for rent?”Her voice rose sharply, tinged with a sharp edge of disbelief.I shoved my hands into my pockets, looking completely unconcerned.“What else would I do?“Do you think I’m playing house with you?”She snapped her head up, her eyes bloodshot.“When did you find out?!”Her voice filled with fury and accusation, as if I’d committed some unspeakable crime.I chuckled softly, my tone dripping with sarcasm.“Does that even matter?“Why do you care when I found out?“Was I supposed to wait until you cheated on me, had a kid, and then had to do a DNA test to find out if it was mine?”Smack! The crisp sound of a slap echoed through the empty room.Claudia had put all her strength into that blow.My cheek burned instantly.Yet, I laughed. And laughed even harder. As soon as Gerald saw this, he immediately switched his act to one with a heartbroken
