☆☆Kevin POV☆☆
The moment I heard Mia saying that she was scared of the attic, I couldn’t hold the urge to tease her about it. However, I never thought that she would actually fight back and nail herself to the floor like that.
The more she resisted, the more I wanted to take her up. For a while, l lost control and carried her up the stairs and forced her into the room.
She was right about one thing for sure. The attic was indeed a cold and spooky place. But nothing to be scared about. I came back to my senses, when Mia held onto my arm and felt her icy cold fingers wrapped up around my arm .
She was shivering; I was really surprised by her. I always knew she was a wuss but not like that.
I wanted to make her face her fear. “What is so scary about it? It looks normal” I tried to assure her as I walked inside the room and looked around.
The room was dark with a dim moonlight coming from the only window in it. It was filled with a lot of boxes, a broken chair, a few baby toys scattered in one corner, a mattress in a plastic cover leaning on one side of the wall and a big dusty grey safe on the ground half covered with a white sheet on it.
I took a few steps in looking around more. It really looked okay, nothing scary about it. But, Mia’s fingernails were digging into my skin. “Hey, you are hurting me” I said and removed her hands, however, her face lost colour like she had seen a ghost and trembled a little saying: “sorry, let’s go” she stepped back and I stopped her back: “Mia, face your fear. Nothing here is scary. Look around and tell me what scares you?” She stopped and looked around, still shaking.
“See, nothing. You scared yourself when you were a child but now you are a grownup” I tried to convince her but in vain. I stretched my hand to hold hers, the second she touched my hand I got goosebumps she was still cold.
“It’s fine. Let’s go. I am sorry” suddenly I regretted it. She was really frightened and I couldn’t figure out why. I took her hand and turned towards the door.
Then creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaak
We both froze at the door and held our breaths soundly. “What the hell?” I thought to myself. Mia’s hand was colder than before and she didn’t even blink as if she was afraid to close her eyes.
I turned slowly to see what that sound was. I looked around the room, everything was the same. but, I noticed the safe on the ground, it was open now.
“What the hell?” I said pointing to the safe. Mia moved her gaze from me to the safe and then back at me saying with a tremble in her voice: “sseee, I ttold youu, let’s go now”
“NO” I said forcefully as I pushed her hand and turned around, found the light switch and walked to the safe. “Now, I want to know what is going on?”
I removed the sheet revealing the safe completely.
Under the sheet, the safe stood on the floor all dusty and it looked like it was closed for a few good years. There was a black colour sprayed on the top in weird shapes like some kind of hoodoo.
I knelt down in front of the safe’s open door and looked inside. There was nothing in it except an old wooden box with a white signs drawn on it just like the ones sprayed on top of the safe.
I took the box out and held it. I looked at Mia and her eyes were wide open and I think she wasn’t breathing either, her face was turning blue. I wobbled the box and a rattle sounded.
“Did you see that box before?” I asked Mia, maybe she had seen it before, but the look on her face confirmed a big no.
I held the box with one hand and opened it with the other. I was expecting a boom or smoke to blow up in my face.
But there was only a medallion in it embedded in a velvet red sheet. It was small, old and rusty. It had the shape of a horseshoe with some kind of inscription written on it. I tried to read it but it was in an unknown language.
I handed the box to Mia, she took the medallion out and looked at it: “I never saw that before” she flipped it around and then put it back in the box: “put it back Kevin and let’s go” I nodded my head in agreement. I had a strange feeling about that thing that scared me as well.
I looked at it again, closed the box, put it back in the safe and closed the safe as it was. I turned around and then Mia took the sheet and covered the safe again.
I switched the lights off and we went downstairs. We were both quiet and shocked.
We sat down on the couch and spaced out. After some time, I looked at Mia and she was still pale white and looked like a lifeless corpse.
I got up and brought her some water. With her trembling hands she pushed my hand away. I felt a pain in my heart seeing her like that. It was all my fault: “Mia, I am sorry, I …” she cut me off saying: “I need to rest” she stood up and walked upstairs to her room. I stared at her back as she disappeared up the stairs looking like a ghost.
Oh god, what just happened? I felt like I was dreaming and I couldn’t wake up no matter how hard I tried. I breathed out soundly, got up and went to the bathroom to freshen up a little. I changed my clothes and went out. I found a blanket and a pillow neatly folded on the couch.
I settled down on the couch and closed my eyes. Of course sleep was far away from me. I thought about everything that happened today. Only the look on Mia’s lifeless face haunted me and drove my sleep away further. “I shouldn’t have forced her to go into the attic; I have to talk to her tomorrow and sort this out” I thought to myself as I sighed out guiltily.
Paaaakkk
My eyes shot open wide as soon as I heard the loud thud coming from above.
Ch. 54 THE PROMISE ☆☆Mia POV☆☆ The sound of the slap echoed through the walls of the bathroom like thunder, and instantly turned her cheek red. It felt so good to finally repay her for the evil she did to me. Surprised by my move, she glared at me but I didn’t give her the chance to recover as I aggressively grabbed her hair, opened the faucet and dragged her head under the running water. She started squirming and held onto my arm trying desperately to free her hair. But I clasped onto her with iron fingers not giving any chance. “You bitch” She screamed loudly and I just wiped her face with more water. Her makeup was smeared and she looked hideous showing her true self. Satisfied with what I had done, I finally let her go. I watched her drop to the floor panting and wiping the water droplets off her face. I took a step back and decided to scare her even more, so I just flamed myself up and enjoyed the horrified look on her face. She tried to stand up but failed as she tripped on
☆☆Mia POV☆☆ I stood in front of the mirror staring at my reflection. I admired the ocean blue dress that hugged my curves and smiled happily to myself. I twirled around and watched the long skirt ruffle the ground. The princess cut sleeves exposed my shoulders and collarbone making it sexy and elegant. I couldn’t help the happiness bubble from exploding inside me. I was finally going out on the prom date with Kevin. I slipped into the silver heels and twirled one last time in front of the mirror in excitement thinking that it has been a month now since we destroyed the horseshoe and there was no sign of Kevin’s father or the syndicate. They might be lurking in the dark waiting for the right moment to strike but I would be ready for whatever they do. I wouldn’t allow anyone to ruin this night for me. “Stop twirling you will fall on your face” Diana’s sarcastic voice sounded in my room. I looked at her still not believing that we have joined forces and she has become my sleep witch.
☆☆Mia POV☆☆ The essence of life was seeping out of me and I could barely hang on to dear life when out of sudden, my batteries got charged to the fullest without a warning. It was like an electric shock ran through my body reviving all my senses at once and when I opened my eyes I saw Kevin flying in the middle of the air. I gasped loudly for air as I watched him hit the ground violently. I turned around and saw Diana holding my hand and Jack screaming at the top of his lungs while shooting at the hunters. I was confused for just a few seconds about how Jack and Diana came here but then I rushed to Kevin who looked like a lifeless corpse. “Shit, not again” I screamed out thinking that every time something happened, he ended up on the verge of death. “Kevin” I called out his name and kneeled next to him. He wasn’t breathing, I felt my heart being punched inside and tears burned my eyes but then I heard Diana saying: “Hurry cast a healing spell. Like I just did on you” then she fire
☆☆Kevin POV☆☆The bullets pierced the tranquility of the night and hit the tombstones next to Mia. With such distraction, Mia’s flames ceased and I forgot that she could deflect bullets. So, acting upon my instinct I threw myself on her. I pressed her on the ground and shielded her against one of the tombstones saying: “Are you okay?”“Yes, Kevin. Get off me; we have to cast the spell now” she wiggled out of my embrace: “they can’t hurt us. Come on let me finish this”“Wait a second” she froze in her place and I looked at the men firing at us. They were professional hunters; dressed up in black and in full gear. I thought about it for a second and realized that the syndicate didn’t know that Mia was now a fully fledged witch. So, they sent armed men and not a witch to capture her.“Okay, go” Before I could finish my words, Mia hastily went back to where the horseshoe was and I could see bullets flying around us, which surely confused the hunters. She just stood with the spell in her
☆☆Mia POV☆☆When we reached granny’s house it was around mid-day, after spending more than 2 hours fortifying the house against any possible coming attacks from Kevin’s father or the syndicate, Kevin and I settled on the couch. Completely tired and drained out of energy. All I did was close my eyes for a few seconds to rest and I fell into deep slumber instantly counting sheep.I didn’t know for how long I slept but when I opened my eyes again, it was already dark outside and there was no one around me. I blinked a few times, remembering where I was and what was waiting for me in the next few hours.I stood up and walked towards the kitchen to find granny sitting with the diary in front of her. Seeing her like that I couldn’t help the warmth that swept over my heart. I have missed her so much and I didn’t want to go through all this ever again. Sensing my presence, she turned her head smiling: “Oh, you’re up”“Mmm” I walked to the table and hugged her tightly.“How are you feeling?” s
☆☆Mia POV☆☆ The moments that pass by our lives defining who we are and what we want, are rare and you can wait a lifetime before having one of those. My vision cleared gradually and I found myself in the school cafeteria with Ben sitting in front of me, his hand holding mine, and murmuring something in an inaudible tone. It took me a few seconds to register that this was the last day of our exams, when I almost lost Kevin all thanks to that idiot in front of me acting all innocent and cute. I stared at him not believing myself for falling for that dumbass stupid talk and hurting Kevin the way I did. I mentalling slapped my face when I heard him saying: “I will not force you. But I will wait for you tonight at 7 o’clock at the coffee shop” Suddenly he stood up and was about to leave. Last time I let him manipulate me into going out with him and it almost cost me the love of my life, but not this time, I stood up as well startling him while saying: “I am sorry Ben, but I won't go out
