☆☆Mia POV☆☆
As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw granny putting a tray on the table in my room in front of the La-Z-Boy. My head was hurting and banging like a hammer inside. The last thing I remembered, I was downstairs putting the things for Kevin on the couch and then I went back to my room.
I jumped out of bed and bent on the floor, I saw the horseshoe here. I looked under the bed and removed the rug but found nothing. It was on the floor next to my bed. Was I imagining things? Was I that frightened that I was hallucinating?
“What is it dear?” granny’s voice startled me. “Nothing granny, I thought I saw something” I replied and stared at the floor again. I think I was exhausted, nothing happened, I felt relieved with that thought.
“Where is Kevin?” I asked. “He is in the garden attending some calls. You scared us yesterday, how are you feeling?” she cupped my face. I was surprised by her question; “I'm okay granny. Why?”
She took my hands, sat me on the bed and told me everything happened yesterday. My heart dropped and I felt my body tremble, that meant I saw the horseshoe and I fainted.
I lost control over myself. I was shaking again; I didn’t want to recall the dreadful attic again. How did that thing come here? Did Kevin prank me? No no, he wouldn’t do that to me. But he is the only one who knew about it and could do it? Wait a second, but he was in the bathroom. Oh my god, I am losing my head.
“Sweetie, have some breakfast. Kevin prepared it for you. Doctor said you should eat well” Granny got the tray in front of me. She stroked my hair: “freshen up and come downstairs, I will go see Kevin now” then she left me again alone.
As soon as granny closed the door, I stood up and started to look for the horseshoe everywhere. However, I couldn’t find it. I started to doubt myself again, I must speak with Kevin. He must be the one behind it.
I ate my breakfast, took a shower and went downstairs right away.
I saw Kevin and granny standing together in the garden talking. I heard Kevin saying: “yes, granny I promise” then they looked at me and came inside. What is it that you are promising Kevin.
“How are you feeling?” Kevin asked, smiling innocently with eyes full of concern for me. I looked into his eyes carefully and replied: “fine” he stared back at me. I was trying to guess if he had anything to do with what happened. He looked innocent, but still, I had my doubts.
“I think we should go home now,” I said. But before Kevin could answer, granny shouted: “why?” I looked at her smiling: “sorry granny. But I need to rest before school” she objected and insisted on staying till tomorrow as planned.
I felt bad and was about to give in when Kevin spoke: “granny, it would be better if we go home today. Mia should regain her strength back. We have a hectic week of school next week and a lot of things to do”
That won’t work Kevin, she needs more persuasion. But to my surprise, granny nodded her head and said to leave after lunch. I stared at Kevin in disbelief, thinking: “what was that?” he smiled back at me, winking: “did you have your breakfast?”
I ignored his question and went to the living room. My heart was pumping fast and my brain was storming; I wanted to know if Kevin pranked me or not.
I was sure that we left the horseshoe in the safe. I covered it myself, how did it come to my room and then disappeared again? Where did it go? What the hell is that thing?
Kevin came after me holding a cup of coffee and sat opposite to me. While, granny came in with my cup in her hand and passed it to me. We talked a little and that lightened my mood a little then after a while we joined granny in the kitchen cooking lunch.
I was trying my best to control my nervousness and act like nothing happened. Although I was standing with them in the kitchen physically, my mind was in a different place and no matter how hard I tried, my brain still went back to the scene of the horseshoe on the floor when I entered the room.
Soon after lunch I went upstairs to get my things. For the last time, I searched for the horseshoe all over my room and didn’t find it.
I came down stairs and saw Kevin and granny whispering together. “What is up with these two?” I asked myself. “Kevin let’s go”
Kevin kissed granny on the cheek and said: “see you soon”. I stared at them thinking: “Now what was that?” my eyes almost popped out. I bid granny farewell and we headed to the car. I waved bye as Kevin drove away from the house.
Finally we are alone. “KEVIN” ……
☆☆Kevin POV☆☆
Hearing my name startled me that I lost control over the wheel for a second. Mia was furious. I knew she was going to ask me about the horseshoe. “I put it back Mia” I answered her unasked question. She was about to say something but she shut her mouth and looked away at the window.
“Why did you do that?” I asked as she turned her head to me and furrowed her brows and said: “I didn’t do anything?”
I was confused, I turned my head and asked again: “what do you mean?”
she turned her head back to the window and sighed loudly: “I walked into my room and just found it there on the floor next to my bed. Next thing I woke up and it wasn’t there. I looked for it and didn’t find it. I even thought that it was you who put there to scare me”
I was shocked, my heart was beating fast that I could almost hear it. “Wh.. what do … do you mean by found it on the floor? like, It appeared out of thin air” I stuttered to get the words out
Mia was getting frustrated as she yelled back: “I just told you what happened?”
I pulled the car over and turned to her. She was shaking a little and her eyes welled up. I patted her shoulder: “don’t worry; I put it back in the attic before we left”
A tear rolled down on her cheek: “are you sure?” I wiped her tears, nodded my head and smiled: “I am sorry Mia. It’s all my fault. I didn’t mean to. I only wanted to tease you. I never thought you would end up hurt”
She sniffed soundly and smiled back at me: “it’s okay. Just stop being a jerk” I handed her a tissue that she wiped her nose as I started the car back and got back on the road. I turned the radio on. It lessened the tension a little. Mia was singing along. However, my thoughts were all over the place:
“I am sure I put in the safe and closed it”
“What is that horseshoe?”
“How come Mia found it on the floor like that?”
“Was someone playing tricks on us? I don’t think it is granny”
“Yesterday, I thought Mia did it and she thought I did. But neither of us did it”
“What the hell? Heeee, okay what is most important now is that I put it back”
“Everything is okay now. Mia is fine. The horseshoe is back in its place and we already left safe and sound. Even my work is fine” I relaxed at the thought and enjoyed the ride home with Mia.
“Let’s get coffee before we go home” Mia asked as we neared her house.
I turned the car towards the coffee place as i thought it would be a good idea: “sure”
Minutes later, I parked the car in front of the coffee shop and asked Mia to get my wallet from my bag as I was stepping out of the car when suddenly Mia grabbed my hand again and pulled me back in.
I jerked off “whaaaaaaat? You sca ….” I swallowed the rest of my sentence. I actually forgot what I wanted to say.
My eyes widened in horror. Mia’s face paled white again and she looked at me in disbelief. “hhooww…” she tried to ask me something but she swallowed her words back as well. The two of us were in shock at what we saw. We couldn’t believe our eyes,
“The horseshoe was in my bag. Back to us again”
Ch. 54 THE PROMISE ☆☆Mia POV☆☆ The sound of the slap echoed through the walls of the bathroom like thunder, and instantly turned her cheek red. It felt so good to finally repay her for the evil she did to me. Surprised by my move, she glared at me but I didn’t give her the chance to recover as I aggressively grabbed her hair, opened the faucet and dragged her head under the running water. She started squirming and held onto my arm trying desperately to free her hair. But I clasped onto her with iron fingers not giving any chance. “You bitch” She screamed loudly and I just wiped her face with more water. Her makeup was smeared and she looked hideous showing her true self. Satisfied with what I had done, I finally let her go. I watched her drop to the floor panting and wiping the water droplets off her face. I took a step back and decided to scare her even more, so I just flamed myself up and enjoyed the horrified look on her face. She tried to stand up but failed as she tripped on
☆☆Mia POV☆☆ I stood in front of the mirror staring at my reflection. I admired the ocean blue dress that hugged my curves and smiled happily to myself. I twirled around and watched the long skirt ruffle the ground. The princess cut sleeves exposed my shoulders and collarbone making it sexy and elegant. I couldn’t help the happiness bubble from exploding inside me. I was finally going out on the prom date with Kevin. I slipped into the silver heels and twirled one last time in front of the mirror in excitement thinking that it has been a month now since we destroyed the horseshoe and there was no sign of Kevin’s father or the syndicate. They might be lurking in the dark waiting for the right moment to strike but I would be ready for whatever they do. I wouldn’t allow anyone to ruin this night for me. “Stop twirling you will fall on your face” Diana’s sarcastic voice sounded in my room. I looked at her still not believing that we have joined forces and she has become my sleep witch.
☆☆Mia POV☆☆ The essence of life was seeping out of me and I could barely hang on to dear life when out of sudden, my batteries got charged to the fullest without a warning. It was like an electric shock ran through my body reviving all my senses at once and when I opened my eyes I saw Kevin flying in the middle of the air. I gasped loudly for air as I watched him hit the ground violently. I turned around and saw Diana holding my hand and Jack screaming at the top of his lungs while shooting at the hunters. I was confused for just a few seconds about how Jack and Diana came here but then I rushed to Kevin who looked like a lifeless corpse. “Shit, not again” I screamed out thinking that every time something happened, he ended up on the verge of death. “Kevin” I called out his name and kneeled next to him. He wasn’t breathing, I felt my heart being punched inside and tears burned my eyes but then I heard Diana saying: “Hurry cast a healing spell. Like I just did on you” then she fire
☆☆Kevin POV☆☆The bullets pierced the tranquility of the night and hit the tombstones next to Mia. With such distraction, Mia’s flames ceased and I forgot that she could deflect bullets. So, acting upon my instinct I threw myself on her. I pressed her on the ground and shielded her against one of the tombstones saying: “Are you okay?”“Yes, Kevin. Get off me; we have to cast the spell now” she wiggled out of my embrace: “they can’t hurt us. Come on let me finish this”“Wait a second” she froze in her place and I looked at the men firing at us. They were professional hunters; dressed up in black and in full gear. I thought about it for a second and realized that the syndicate didn’t know that Mia was now a fully fledged witch. So, they sent armed men and not a witch to capture her.“Okay, go” Before I could finish my words, Mia hastily went back to where the horseshoe was and I could see bullets flying around us, which surely confused the hunters. She just stood with the spell in her
☆☆Mia POV☆☆When we reached granny’s house it was around mid-day, after spending more than 2 hours fortifying the house against any possible coming attacks from Kevin’s father or the syndicate, Kevin and I settled on the couch. Completely tired and drained out of energy. All I did was close my eyes for a few seconds to rest and I fell into deep slumber instantly counting sheep.I didn’t know for how long I slept but when I opened my eyes again, it was already dark outside and there was no one around me. I blinked a few times, remembering where I was and what was waiting for me in the next few hours.I stood up and walked towards the kitchen to find granny sitting with the diary in front of her. Seeing her like that I couldn’t help the warmth that swept over my heart. I have missed her so much and I didn’t want to go through all this ever again. Sensing my presence, she turned her head smiling: “Oh, you’re up”“Mmm” I walked to the table and hugged her tightly.“How are you feeling?” s
☆☆Mia POV☆☆ The moments that pass by our lives defining who we are and what we want, are rare and you can wait a lifetime before having one of those. My vision cleared gradually and I found myself in the school cafeteria with Ben sitting in front of me, his hand holding mine, and murmuring something in an inaudible tone. It took me a few seconds to register that this was the last day of our exams, when I almost lost Kevin all thanks to that idiot in front of me acting all innocent and cute. I stared at him not believing myself for falling for that dumbass stupid talk and hurting Kevin the way I did. I mentalling slapped my face when I heard him saying: “I will not force you. But I will wait for you tonight at 7 o’clock at the coffee shop” Suddenly he stood up and was about to leave. Last time I let him manipulate me into going out with him and it almost cost me the love of my life, but not this time, I stood up as well startling him while saying: “I am sorry Ben, but I won't go out
