Third Person POV

Boyfriend.

They have a label now, and that announcement just made it official.

Even though Melissa is perfectly aware that Eleanor is looking at her, no doubt enjoying the look of confusion on her face, she can’t help but let her mind wander.

When did it happen? When did Andrew decide that it was time for him to start a new relationship? Did it come right after nothing happened between them?

“Well?” Eleanor prompts. “Are you going, Melissa? Because it seems that your friends are already on board.”

“Oh come with us, Melissa,” River urges her. “It’s going to be fun! It’s Friday, and we need to let loose. You especially. I’m sorry, girl, but you might need to get laid.”

Still perfectly oblivious of the tension between Melissa and Eleanor, the three of them start to laugh. Melissa doesn’t mind, but what she does mind is Eleanor’s winning smile.

Melissa’s POV“Why are you making such a fuss?” Heather adds, grabbing my design from the table and staring at it in disgust. The cream spreads all over it and spills on the table, all over my other designs. “I told you that you shouldn’t even start designing yet. Not until you get the proper training.”“Training?” I can’t help but repeat. “I don’t know if you know this, Heather, but I worked here before. I know what’s going on. I know how things work.”Saying that is a mistake. I realize it too late. It only occurs to me when she smiles wider, the expression never reaching her eyes. She walks closer to me, letting the paper drop to the floor. The cream is completely soaking through the paper now. The design that I worked hard for is now nothing.Meanwhile, Eleanor just stands there at the side watching everything go down with a shocked expression. As though she didn’t see this coming. As though this wasn’t a part of her plan.“I’m going to fire you,” Heather finally says, laughing at

Melissa’s POV“Well?” the guy prompts, and I swallow hard, wrapped in complete uncertainty.Should I even entertain this guy? Or should I tell him to leave me alone? I look around me and I notice that this group isn’t the only one looking at me. Pretty much everyone in my near vicinity is watching me, waiting for my answer. The last thing I want is for my coworkers to hate me because they think I’m sort of a stuck-up bitch.“Sit with me,” I just say, trying for a smile as the man and his friends sit down in front of me.This feels like high school, I can’t help but notice. Is this like being picked on the by the clique? Because if so, they should really recruit Eleanor and have some kind of joint power.“So, you’re Melissa, right?” he asks, holding his hand out to me. “I’m River. And this is Kelly and Beth.”“It’s good to meet you,” I say, surprised that they’re introducing themselves and not throwing my lunch off the table or something.Kelly leans in. “You’re the one that Zane got f

Third Person POVEleanor smirks at Melissa, enjoying the flash of anger in her eyes. That’s what Melissa deserves for being here. For daring to be present. For daring to even breathe in the same room as her. Even after everything that Eleanor did just to prevent her from coming here.Yes, Eleanor was the one who set up the accident. She paid somebody to ram into Melissa’s car. Eleanor regrets that now, but not because she wants Melissa to be safe. She regrets it because she realizes that she should have gotten a bigger vehicle to take her down.Apparently getting into a mild car crash wasn’t enough for Melissa to back down. She just had the audacity to be late.Eleanor has been so excited to start working. After getting kicked out by Grandpa, she just wants to have something to her name that she can throw back at that old man whenever he acts up.“He hates me,” Eleanor told Andrew last night when he came in to comfort Lottie. “Did you hear the way he addressed us?”But Andrew was not

Melissa’s POV“You won’t be there either?”All I can do is splutter in disbelief.I’m on my way to The Vault after a night of mentally preparing myself to start work with Eleanor. I stayed up late and brushed up on the fashion terms just to at least stop myself from sounding stupid. I was designing too, sharpening myself, knowing that I won’t be alone since Zane told me that Yolanda would be there.Only to call her on my way to the office and find out that she’s also en route to Milan.“I’m so sorry, honey,” Yolanda says, sounding truly apologetic. “One of my clients insisted that I go. She’s going to attend a red carpet and she really wants to put my name out there. It’s another way to network, you know.”“And I’m happy for you,” I say, meaning it with all my heart. “You’re living out your dreams like we always talked about. I’m excited to see you on TV.”I can almost picture her smile from the other side, happy but at the same time guilty. “Melissa. I really wanted to be there on yo

  • When Our Daughter Died, My Husband Cheated   51 - Contract

Melissa’s POVThe words from Ivy’s mouth kept repeating in my head, even when I went to bed in the mansion. I kept kicking myself mentally, wishing that I was smart enough to bring my phone down with me so I could record what she said. But it was too late. All I knew is that I have the truth, and there has to be a way to let it out there without compromising myself.I just need to figure it out. That’s what I’m trying to do now, on my way back home after a stressful night at that place. It was hard leaving Grandpa, but it was an absolute pleasure to be away from the witches who lived there.I’m also currently trying to forget everything that happened between me and Andrew last night. So the more distance I put between me and the mansion, the better.“Andrew isn’t home,” Nadia said to me this morning before I left, pointing out his absence like I didn’t notice. “Do you think he spent the night at Eleanor’s place and… sealed some things?”“I hope so,” I answered nonchalantly. But now I
