Chapter 4 His Crush, My Bad Advice

Author: Bright Lights
The chauffeur driving us was a chatterbox. He had caught the look on my face, so he grinned and teased, "I bet Ms. Rhodes heard the partner's assistant is ridiculously handsome and is looking forward to meeting him."

I fell silent.

'God, stop making things up. The only one I'm obsessed with is Cassian!' I protested inwardly.

Alas, my guilty conscience kept me from saying a word. Instead, I pretended that nothing had happened as I calmly changed the subject and began briefing Cassian on his schedule for the day.

However, I couldn't help but feel as though the temperature inside the car was plummeting. It was so noticeable that it gradually became harder to overlook. When I finally looked up, I found Cassian watching me with a dark, unreadable expression.

'He hasn't noticed something, has he?'

My heart skipped a beat. However, I continued to play dumb and acted as though everything was perfectly normal.

When we arrived at the business engagement, the host had originally seated me beside the handsome assistant so coordinating the event would be more convenient.

To everyone's surprise, Cassian spoke up the moment everyone settled into their seats, his tone calm but firm. "Ms. Rhodes sits beside me."

Everyone at the table immediately pretended they hadn't heard a thing, smiling and chatting as if nothing unusual had happened.

As for me, I was secretly overjoyed. Nevertheless, I remained perfectly composed on the surface. "Yes, Mr. Knox."

After I sat down, Cassian instructed me, "Serve my food tonight. You know what I like to eat, don't you?"

I nodded.

I knew better than anyone regarding his preferences.

So, I diligently picked dishes for him throughout the meal, carefully serving him all his favorites.

Honestly, it felt so satisfying to watch the person I liked eat exactly what I chose for him. There was just something strangely addictive about being able to lord that tiny bit of control over him.

Cassian seemed to be in an unusually good mood during the meeting. He became noticeably more accommodating during the business negotiations. Still, I noticed that he'd glance toward the handsome assistant across the table every so often.

The poor assistant only looked confused as he thought in bafflement, 'Is it just me or… What's Mr. Knox showing off for?'

Once the conversation shifted fully to the partnership itself, I was no longer needed to serve him food. So, my attention drifted elsewhere.

My eyes landed on the handsome assistant's chain necklace resting against his collarbone, and I couldn't help imagining how incredible that necklace would look on Cassian.

Regardless, I was of the opinion that the iron chain I'd bought would probably look even better locked around his ankle.

Just imagining it sent a thrill through me.

"Oh, my God! Mr. Knox, are you okay?"

The sudden cry snapped me back to reality. I looked over and realized the porcelain spoon in Cassian's hand had been crushed into pieces.

'His forearms are so strong… I wonder what it'd be like if they were wrapped around my neck while—No, no! Stop thinking about that!'

I forcibly dragged my thoughts back on track. As I was busy trying to compose myself, I unknowingly made something that looked suspiciously like an eye roll.

"Mr. Knox, I'll get you some iodine."

As my calm, professional-secretary persona was fraying at the edges, I clicked away on my heels without another word. As a result, I never noticed that behind me, Cassian looked as though he were falling apart.

"Are other men really that attractive… while I'm that disgusting to you?" he murmured under his breath. "Heather… baby…"

By the time the meeting ended, Cassian was visibly preoccupied. I tried probing him, but couldn't get a single useful answer. So, I decided to harass him with my burner account after I got home that night.

As expected, he ignored every one of my texts.

Instead, he updated his social media.

"Baby… if I locked you away… would you only look at me then?"

'Is he… going to imprison his crush soon?'

Jealousy instantly overwhelmed me, throwing my emotions completely off balance. I opened my burner account and started giving him the worst advice imaginable.

"I bought an incredibly practical iron chain in the past. It's basically the perfect tool for keeping someone captive. Once your crush steps into your house, they're never getting out of it again.

"In exchange for sharing such a great recommendation, won't you be my puppy for one month? Just one month."

Ever since Cassian was a child, he had pushed himself to become the very best. Yet, all he had ever received in return were the ever-rising expectations and relentless criticisms from his father. His mother had been absent for as long as he knew her, while his father had been cold and unforgiving.Years of emotional neglect and constant pressure had gradually twisted something inside him. He was more rational and clearheaded than almost anyone else, but he also craved love more desperately than anyone. After he came of age, he had voluntarily sought out a psychologist and confessed the problems he recognized within himself. After the doctor listened to his story, he had gently suggested, "Try placing your emotional attachment in the family you've built or will build for yourself in the future. Perhaps that will gradually heal the emptiness inside you."A family of his own? At the time, Cassian had found the idea both absurd and laughable. After all, no one understood his nature be

Cassian went from utter shock to slowly closing his eyes, surrendering himself to the kiss.Only when we had both run out of breath did I tilt my head away and finally let him go.His chest rose and fell heavily. His eyes had grown misty because of the kiss. However, he never looked away from me. "Are you… taking pity on me?" he asked, his voice hoarse. It seemed that he no longer believed he deserved anyone's love after being publicly rejected by his father. To him, every bit of affection that came his way now felt like charity. My heart softened as I looked at the loneliness and vulnerability on his face."No."It was only one word, yet it carried unwavering certainty.Cassian nodded, but it was obvious he didn't believe me. Instead, he apologized. "What I did… locking you up… was wrong. I hurt you. I'm sorry. You can leave now. For good if that's what you want. If you want to resign because of this, I'll give you four times the statutory severance package, plus a fully paid

I slapped him across the face.It wasn't hard. Honestly, it was more teasing than anything, but it seemed to snap Cassian back to his senses. The tenderness in his eyes vanished, replaced by panic and guilt. He immediately stepped away, putting some distance between us as he apologized earnestly, "I'm sorry, Heather. I lost control."Then, he avoided my eyes, stood up, and practically fled in total embarrassment.I stared at the tightly shut door, and all I felt was regret.'Damn it, I overdid it!'I'd only wanted to play hard to get and watch him lose control. Alas, I'd scared him away instead. Oh, how I wished I could turn back time and take that slap back.I had assumed that, with how obsessed Cassian was with me, he'd spend one awkward night sorting out his emotions before coming to see me again the next day. I never imagined he'd disappear for an entire night and the entire day after that.I didn't catch a single glimpse of him for a full 24 hours. The only person who cam

Cassian smiled now that I had finally made a request from him, a flicker of light flashing across his eyes. "You're finally asking me for something."Then, he frowned slightly, sounding a little dissatisfied. "You can take a bath, but you'll have to call me something else."I feigned awkwardness as I spoke the name I'd already whispered to myself countless times. "Cassian…"His eyes lit up with joy the instant his name fell from my lips. "Good girl."Then, he reached down and unlocked the chain around my ankle. The cold metal slipped away, and I was finally free. His fingertips gently brushed over the faint red marks the shackles had left on my skin. "You can bathe, but don't even think about running away. I'm not letting you go."I nodded obediently and meekly.'Run away? I came here with no intention of leaving!'I wandered into the bathroom and deliberately took my time.…Once I figured enough time had passed, I turned off the shower and casually wrapped a towel loosely a

Fortunately for him, I had no intention of leaving.Instead, I settled comfortably onto the bed and began taking a proper look around the room that had become my prison. In the past, it had never occurred to me that I might be Cassian's crush. I'd watched every corner of this villa through the security cameras countless times, but nothing had ever stood out to me. Now that I looked closely, it suddenly became obvious that this had been going on for quite a while. After all, everything in this room had been designed according to my tastes. The walls were painted my favorite light beige. The curtains were the luxury sheer drapes that had been sitting in my online wishlist forever. Even the bedding he'd used for this room was the soft cotton fabric I'd favored for years. The diffuser on the nightstand was the same niche fragrance I'd casually mentioned on social media once, saying it smelled wonderful.Every single detail matched my preferences to a T.A surge of warm satisfactio

Soft morning light settled across Cassian's shoulders, making his already striking features even more breathtaking. Yet, there was no hiding the unmistakable possessiveness in his eyes behind all the beauty. The look he was giving me was so intense that it felt almost predatory. Before I could continue giving him my Oscar-worthy attempt at being terrified, he had already walked over to me. Then, he bent down and gently drew me into his arms. His warm breath brushed over my hair as he slowly stroked my back, soothing me patiently. "Don't be afraid, baby. I won't hurt you."I greedily breathed in his scent, but deliberately tensed my shoulders, feigning fear."I've liked you for a long time." His chin rested lightly against the top of my head, his voice practically dripping with tenderness. "I fell for you ever since the first time you held one of my finance magazines and told me with utmost sincerity that I was your role model."I watched you stay cold and distant with everyone el
