Se connecterAsher’s fury boiled over as he grabbed Tyler by the collar, "You son of a bitch, how dare you?" His breath was heavy with anger.
Tyler, defiantly smirking, lifted his chin and met Asher's glare with an cold stare. "You might want to take your hands off me, princess," he taunted, with a hint of mockery in his voice.
"I'll kill you," Asher growled, his fist clenched and ready to start a fight.
"I dare you," Tyler shot back, unfazed, a hint of challenge in his tone.
Just as Asher's fist was about to connect, Lia surged forward, stepping between the two boys. "Stop it, both of you! You're causing a scene, and if you don’t want to get expelled, I suggest you back off!" She pushed Asher away firmly, the reality of her words crashing down on him. He stumbled back, reluctantly releasing Tyler.
Asher spat out, "See you around, pretty boy," before storming off, tension following behind him.
Tyler turned to Lia, concern in eyes as he placed a hand on her arm. "Are you okay?" he asked, his tone softer now.
She slapped his hand away. "What makes you think you can just kiss me anytime you want?" Lia’s voice was laced with anger, her eyes narrowing at him.
Tyler raised his hands in a gesture of innocence. "I’m sorry," he replied, though a grin crept onto his face. Deep down, he enjoyed pushing Asher's buttons, and now he found joy in pushing further.
Lia's voice rose, sharp. "We had a deal, don’t cross your boundaries."
He smirked noting how the kiss seemed to stir something within her. As if reading his thoughts, Lia shot back, "You are unbelievable," before turning on her heel and walking away, leaving him watching her retreat.
Days turned into an uneasy silence as Lia avoided both boys. She had tried reaching out to Trudy, desperate to understand what had gone wrong, she needed her bestfriend, but Trudy remained distant, the phone calls unreturned and messages unread.
One afternoon, while sitting in her bedroom feeling isolated, Lia’s phone buzzed with a call from an unknown number. After a moment of hesitation, her curiosity got the better of her. "Who is this?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"I’m outside your house; could we talk?" The voice was familiar, yet she couldn't make out who it was.
"You still haven’t answered my question," she pressed, feeling the tension tightening in her chest.
"It’s Zayn," he replied, causing her heart to skip. Zayn was the last person she expected to show interest in her well-being.
"Give me a minute," she said, ending the call. What could he possibly want? A mix of curiosity and confusion swirled in her stomach as she quickly changed into faded jeans and a simple tank top.
When she stepped outside, Zayn stood on her front porch, a warm smile across his face. "Hey," he greeted.
"Hi," she replied, hesitating before adding, "Do you want to come in?"
"No, thanks. I’m good out here," he said, his tone genuinely caring. "I actually just wanted to check up on you, make sure you’re doing alright."
Lia appreciated the concern, but it brought forth memories she'd rather forget. "I’m fine. So, you heard about everything?" she asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Yeah, I mean, you and Trudy were pretty much inseparable. I can’t understand why she would do something like that to you," Zayn said, his brow furrowing in empathy.
"I don't know either, but I'm going to find out," Lia declared, determination fueling her words.
Zayn’s smile turned comforting. "I’m here for you if you need someone to talk to," he offered, his eyes reassuring.
Suddenly, an all-too-familiar voice broke through the moment. "Sorry, but she already has me," Tyler interjected as he appeared from around the corner, a hint of possessiveness in his tone that caught both Lia and Zayn off guard.
"Tyler, what are you doing here?" Lia asked, her voice laced with surprise.
"You weren’t picking up my calls," Tyler replied with concern.
"I am aware of that," Lia said nonchalantly, trying to mask the guilt creeping in.
Zayn, sensing the rising tension, interjected, "I will leave you two alone," not wanting to be caught in the middle of an awkward confrontation.
"Yeah, you should," Tyler shot back, sending Zayn a glare that hinted at his protective instincts.
"Tyler!...." Lia gave him a cautioning stare, then turned back to Zayn, her expression softening. "...You don’t have to leave."
"No, it’s fine. I just wanted to make sure you were okay," Zayn said, taking a cautious step back.
"Okay, we'll talk later?" Lia asked, offering him a warm smile to ease the moment.
"Sure," Zayn replied, returning her smile before walking away, leaving an uneasy silence behind.
"You should stay away from him," Tyler advised.
"Oh, now you’re telling me who I should and shouldn’t be friends with?" Lia was taken aback, her eyebrows furrowing in frustration.
"It’s not what it seems. There’s just a lot you don’t know," Tyler said, his expression a mix of worry and concern.
"What does that mean? What don’t I know?" Lia pressed, her curiosity growing with each passing moment.
"Just stay away from him for now. I came to pick you up for the games fair; we’re already late," Tyler pointed swiftly shifting the topic.
"Shit, I forgot! Let me grab my phone," Lia exclaimed, bolting up the stairs to fetch her bag.
Once on his bike, the two sped off to the fair, the wind whipping through Lia's hair as she felt a rush of excitement. She immersed herself in the games, laughter and shouts of joy surrounding her, relishing the fun like she hadn't in ages. She won several prizes, her confidence soaring with each victory.
"Seems like you’re famous now," Tyler said, dropping her off at the entrance, his tone teasing.
"Oh, shut up," Lia giggled, her mood infectious.
"What happened to, ‘I’m old and rusty’?" Tyler laughed, playfully mocking her earlier sentiments.
"I guess I still have it in my blood! We should do this more often," Lia suggested, causing a genuine smile to spread across Tyler's face.
"I’ve got more tricks up my sleeve," Tyler joked, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Ouuu, tell me!" Lia leaned forward, eager to know.
"No, I won’t. Not until the time is right," he teased, his grin widening.
"Whatever... it’s getting late; I should head inside," Lia said, stepping back reluctantly.
"Lia, I’m really sorry about kissing you without your permission," Tyler suddenly said, his tone serious.
"Apology accepted. Today was fun, thank you," Lia replied, offering him a genuine smile that warmed him.
"You’re welcome," Tyler responded, his smile lingering as he drove off.
The next day at school, Zayn approached Lia with a cheerful smile. "Heyy," he said, his voice brightening her morning.
"Hi," she replied, her heart fluttering slightly as their eyes met.
"So, you and Tyler?" Zayn asked casually, trying to gauge the situation.
"God, please no. We’re just friends," Lia said, rolling her eyes as they walked to their next class together.
"So, there won’t be a problem if we hung out?" Zayn asked, an eager edge in his voice. Lia paused, contemplating the implications of that statement. It seemed harmless; they were just friends now.
"Of course not," she smiled, but her expression dimmed as she caught sight of Harper coming toward her, her mascara smudged and eyes red as if she had been crying her heart out.
"You!" Harper halted in front of Lia, fury and pain written on her face.
"Are you okay?" Lia asked with genuine concern, fully aware that it was rare to see Harper in such a vulnerable state.
"Don’t even act like you care, because this is all your fault," Harper spat, her voice laced with hate, taking Lia aback.
"Okay, I’m confused," Lia replied, her heart racing with anxiety.
"Asher broke up with me, and I know it’s because of you," Harper accused, obviously heart broken.
"Wow, didn’t see that coming. At least he didn’t cheat," Lia responded, attempting humor to lighten the weight of the situation.
"You think this is funny?" Harper stepped forward, her expression fierce as she reached to grab Lia, but Tyler stepped in between them, his protective instincts kicking in.
"Harper, you don’t have to do that," he said firmly with his gaze steady.
"Oh please, seriously? Her?" Harper exclaimed, directing a look of disgust at Lia. "...What do guys see in you anyway? You’re weak and ugly." The harsh words struck Lia deeply, leaving her momentarily speechless.
"Oh yeah, coming from the one with dripping makeup," Lia retorted, hurt creeping into her own voice.
"I will make your life a living hell," Harper declared, her eyes blazing with anger.
"From what I’m seeing, you’re already living in hell," Lia replied, a small chuckle escaping her lips despite the tension, catching Harper off guard.
"I am going to ruin you," Harper threatened, her glare more intense than ever.
"Harper, don’t," Zayn tried to intervene, his voice calming but firm.
"Oh, this will be so good. Do you really think it was just Asher and I who planned your so-called betrayal?" Harper shot back, her voice dripping with malice.
"What do you mean?" Lia stepped forward, her curiosity piqued despite the fear growing in her chest.
"To show that no one actually gives a shit about you...” Harper started, but Zayn interrupted her.
"Harper!" he called out sharply, yet she locked her gaze onto Lia’s.
"Your friend here was the one who gave us the idea in the first place," Harper said, and at this, disbelief washed over Lia, causing her to laugh.
"Is that the best you’ve got? You pulled the first one on Trudy; it might have worked then, but you need to try harder," Lia said defiantly, refusing to believe a word of what Harper was saying.
"You think I made it up? Ask him then," Harper said, gesturing toward Zayn. Lia’s gaze snapped to him, searching for confirmation, but he wouldn’t meet her eyes.
"Zayn, is it true?" Lia asked, her voice trembling as her heart sank at the thought of betrayal from a friend.
"Lia, I can explain," Zayn's words barely reached her ears as her heart dropped even further, leaving her feeling hollow and confused.
"What?..."
Just after the boys stood up, a few others did.Harper was one of them, Lia would have been surprised if she didn't know she was only volunteering because of Asher. Either ways she was happy she wasn't doing it alone hands were on deck. For the first time since Principal Gabriel had dumped the responsibility on her, Lia felt like maybe this fundraiser wouldn’t completely crash and burn.Maybe..........The next morning, Lia was happy to see a good number of students in the meeting in room. The once nearly empty space now buzzed with low conversations, students dragging chairs across the floor, some half-awake while others looked mildly irritated to even be there.Still, it was progress.Lia stood at the front of the room with a clipboard in her hand, trying to ignore the nervousness sitting in her stomach. She wasn’t used to leading people like this. But somehow, everyone was actually listening.Well... most of them."Firstly, I want to appreciate you all for volunteering your time a
“Relax ladies, there is enough water to go round,” Coach Jacobs walked in carrying extra bottles of water, unknowingly saving everyone from the painfully awkward situation. The tension immediately broke.“Thanks, I’ll just take from there instead,” Lia quickly said to the boys before grabbing one of the fresh bottles from the coach. She walked away almost too fast, releasing a quiet breath of relief once there was enough distance between them.“Lia...” Trudy called in a warning tone as she followed beside her.“It was nothing...” Lia brushed it off quickly, twisting open the water bottle.“Okay... if you say so,” Trudy backed off, though the knowing look on her face remained. But Trudy didn’t need to remind her.Lia already knew. She knew exactly how dangerous things could become if she got caught between the two brothers again. She had already lived through the consequences once before, and she wasn’t about to repeat the same mistake. No matter how confusing her feelings still were.
“Well, technically we have seen but we've been talking,” Damien cleared. “Okay...tell me more,” Lia said, even more eager to listen. “So his name is Sebastian...” “Ooh, that’s a really hot name,” Lia wiggled her eyebrows. “...do you have pics?” Lia asked. “Yes, but not a full profile,” Damien said, scrolling through his gallery. He showed Lia a picture of a shirtless guy standing beside a pool. It was a face-off picture, but the guy’s well-built frame was impossible to miss. His biceps were hefty, defined muscles stretching beneath damp skin. Water clung to his torso, highlighting his six-pack abs, while his shorts were soaked enough to reveal the faint outline beneath . “Wow, he’s really hot,” Lia admitted, taking in every detail before finally tearing her eyes away from the photo. “I know,” Damien said with a smug little smirk, clearly pleased with himself. “How did you guys meet?” Lia asked curiously. “He messaged me on I*******m with an anonymous account...” Damien explain
“And who is this?” Tyler asked, trying to keep his voice neutral. But beneath the calm expression, irritation clawed at him. He hated seeing another guy touch Lia so comfortably, like he belonged there. Lia, completely unaware of the storm brewing inside him, stepped aside slightly. “Tyler, this is my friend Damien. Damien, this is Tyler,” Lia introduced. Damien’s eyes widened immediately in recognition to the name. “Whoa... he’s the Tyler?” Damien asked, suddenly far more engaged in the conversation. Tyler’s brows furrowed slightly. “The Tyler?” he repeated slowly, unable to place what exactly that was supposed to mean. “Yeah, she spoke about you,” Damien said casually, completely oblivious to the tension thickening in the room. “Damien!...” Lia instantly stomped on his foot. “Ow... shit!” Damien yelped in pain, nearly losing balance. Tyler stood there confused. She talked about him? To Damien? His chest tightened. And somehow that only made things worse. Because now a
Lia made her way to the principal’s office as requested, her mind still crowded with thoughts from the assembly. The hallways buzzed with excitement over the fundraiser announcement, but she could barely focus on any of it. Something about the way Principal Gabriel had singled her out in front of everyone made her uneasy. She reached the office door and knocked once. “Come in,” Principal Gabriel’s voice answered immediately. Lia pushed the door open carefully. “You asked to see me, sir?” Lia said upon entering the room. The moment she stepped inside, her gaze landed on Adrian, who was already seated opposite the principal’s desk. He looked composed as always, dressed sharply, fingers folded calmly in his lap like he belonged there. It was obvious they had already been discussing something before she arrived. Lia instantly stiffened. She didn’t say a word to him. “Yes, please have a seat,” Principal Gabriel offered politely. Lia sat down slowly, though every instinct in her bo
Lia was finally done with her shift, but instead of heading home immediately, she step outside the café to find Damien patiently waiting as he said he would. For few minutes they sat in silence. The night air was cool, the soft glow from the café windows spilling onto the pavement beside them. Cars occasionally passed by, but neither of them spoke. The tension wasn’t awkward, just heavy, emotional. Lia sat with her hands wrapped around the sleeves of her hoodie, trying to process everything Damien had just confessed. “I still don’t understand…” she finally let out quietly. “Understand what?” Damien asked with a faint, humourless smile. “That I’m into guys?” “That…” Lia admitted softly. “…and why you found it so hard to tell me in the first place.” She paused before continuing. “You were acting strange, and I thought it had something to do with me. Somehow, I felt like I did something wrong, for you not to be able to talk to me.” Damien’s expression immediately softened with guilt
Lia froze, her body stiff at the sound of Tyler’s voice. Her pulse quickened, her breath caught in her throat. Her eyes darted between Zayden’s dripping form, a towel barely hanging at his waist and Tyler, who was now approaching from the end of the hall, his brows knitting together in visible confu
“Trudy, are you even listening to me?” Lia’s sharp voice cut through the silence of her room, snapping Trudy back to reality.Trudy blinked, startled, her cheeks still faintly flushed. “Yes, yes,” she rushed out, trying to shake the blush from her face. She tucked her phone quickly to the side, as
“Ophelia, huh?” Zayden said after sliding into the empty seat beside her, his tone casual but laced with that same arrogance from their first encounter.“It’s Lia,” she corrected curtly, her jaw tightening.“And you have nothing to say to me unless it’s an apology.”“An apology?” His brows lifted a
It had been two weeks. Two long, agonizing weeks. Tyler hadn't called or even sent a single text. In the hallways, he walked past her as though she were invisible, his eyes fixed on some distant thought, never once meeting hers. He seemed absentminded, lost in a fog that she couldn’t reach into.
